The kids I babysat for are all adults now, but they still talk about my serious skills with a controller! These days, I confess that the newest game systems – and we have THREE of them – can be a little intimidating, but my kids? My kids are totally interested and into gaming. And I love that! My friend threw a video game party for her son’s 10th birthday a few months back and I was so inspired by it! I realized we could throw an incredible video game party here, and not only that, we could throw a regular video game playdate anytime. AND, we have can’t miss items for everyday gaming too. Summer is coming and we have chance to get our epic game on.
Can’t Miss Items for Your Video Game Party, Playdate or Everyday Game Session:
1 – Gaming console and controllers. Like I said, we have three consoles. And having a party around a computer isn’t the same as a console. So make sure you have a big TV, stick to one console, have extra controllers – and make sure they’re charged or you have batteries, and settle on one or two games as well! It’s best to have that all planned out before the party or playdate.
2 – Plan for comfort. Have your console set up in a room with lots of chairs, couches, and coffee, end, or side tables. You’re going to need it, especially if it will be a long party. Sometimes kids are happy with just sitting on pillows or blankets on the floor. We like to make little stations for each gamer, with a name card and comfort items, especially if it’s not a couch space or chair.
3 – Signature drink. It’s fun to have a kid-friendly drink for the party – like a punch or smoothie. This can be themed with the video game they’re playing.
4 – Snacks. This is about as important as it gets. My kids and their friends love Farm Rich, which they can eat with their hands.
5 – Board games. Kids are going to need to take video game breaks! That way, they’re still using their gaming brains, but away from the screen. Since you already have the snacks, drinks, and set up, have a few board games going as well. It’s really the ultimate gamer party this way!
Some of the Video Game Snacks We Love:
Did you know that Farm Rich is one of America’s favorite frozen snack brands? And, you can find them at all major grocery stores. We love this full lineup of fun snacks and appetizers, and they even have BBQ snacks and entrees. All varieties are easy to prepare, and are made with wholesome, quality ingredients that you can feel good about serving and eating. Basically, Farm Rich makes entertaining and serving up delicious snacks super fun and simple. We love that the products can be enjoyed as fast snacks, quick meals, or for our video game parties and playdates. (no utensils required!) Many can be microwaved for ease too.
These are forever a classic, made with 100% real mozzarella cheese. They’re a great and easy after-school, after-camp, or party snack for kids, plus they’re the must-have party appetizer!
They’re breaded and seasoned to perfection, and are a good source of calcium and protein.
Oh my goodness to these! They’re made with melty American cheese sandwiched between toasty white bread, and are a good source of protein. They’re belly fillers, microwavable and easily paired with tomato soup for a special meal! They dip well too!
These are the perfect appetizer! They’re small and unassuming, but with incredible taste! They’re ready in only a short amount of time after cooking in your oven or microwave. And use 100% real mozzarella cheese wrapped in authentic pizza crust. Plus they’re a good source of calcium and protein, making them perfect for a long video game session.
These are probably the most popular appetizer for a party! The crispy Idaho potato skins are stuffed with bacon and 100% real cheddar cheese.
Dips and sauces:
What did we use? Well we used marinara sauce, of course, ketchup (of course – says Des) and a homemade organic mayo that Cassidy loves to make. He combines egg yolk, lemon juice, vinegar, mustard, and a pinch of salt in a small bowl and blends until it turns yellowish. That’s it! We also have a yummy cranberry mustard that I serve with these dishes. The sky is the limit but when you’re at the store, definitely get a mustard, a ketchup, and a marinara sauce you love.
