Everything tastes better when it’s heart-shaped and red or pink colored. You can surprise your loved one with homemade burgers with the most delightful buns ever! They are made from yeast dough, and actually are a simple recipe. I tint them with only two drops of food coloring, and recommend looking into natural dyes, like beet juice and more. You can use any greens you want for the burger, but I don’t like wilty and warm lettuce, so I use arugula. It goes well with the cheese. This particular recipe will serve three, but you can double it or cut it down as well.
Valentine’s Day Homemade Burgers (Heart-Shaped):
What You Need:
For the Dough:
1 – 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup milk, room temperature
1 tsp yeast
1 Tbsp olive oil
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp sugar
2 drops red dye
For the Burger:
1 1/2 cup ground beef + salt & pepper to taste
1 1/2 tsp vegetable oil
9 pickle slices
A bunch of arugula
3 servings of cheddar cheese slices for burgers
3-4 tsp burger sauce
What You Do:
1 – First, prepare your dough by mixing yeast, room temperature milk, olive oil, food coloring, salt, and sugar.
2 – Add flour in batches until you get a smooth, soft, and slightly sticky dough (you may need a little more or less flour).
3 – Grease a deep bowl with vegetable oil and place the dough in the center.
4 – Cover the bowl with cling wrap and leave it to rise for about one hour, in a warm and wind-free place – your dough should double in volume.
5 – Then, divide it into six portions – roll out each piece into a cone and connect the cones in pairs to form a heart. You can use water to attach the pieces together.
6 – Place the buns on a baking sheet lined with a baking mat or parchment paper, and cover with a cotton towel; leave to rise for 15 minutes.
7 – Then, bake at 350 for 17 minutes.
8 – Let the buns cool and then cut in half with a sharp knife.
9 – Then brush the bottoms of the buns with your best burger sauce, and place arugula and pickles on the sauce.
10 – Salt and pepper your ground beef and form three round cutlets about 1/4 an inch thick.
11 – Fry them in vegetable oil until both sides are crispy, and then place them on the buns.
12 – Cover with cheese and secure the top bun to the bottom bun with a skewer. Enjoy!
