Hot and brief! Hot and briefly. Like I like it. I think we’re talking about blogging, right? Right. (although when have I ever been brief here?) ANYWAY, there’s no Finish the Sentence Friday this week so I borrowed this Three Things prompt from Charlotte and it’s exactly what I need today. Why am I so tired? I didn’t do a thing today, but on the other hand, I did things. Like waking up and making food, serving food, eating food, standing around, playing games, caring for pets, deep thinking, and all around letting the Thanksgiving feelings wash over me. They did.
You’re All the Things I’ve Got to Remember, Three Things Thanksgiving:
Things I’m looking forward to before the end of the month
We don’t have a lot of time left this month! Let’s see.
1 – I’m looking forward to breakfast tomorrow. I’m already hungry again because we had dinner at 4pm and my metabolism burns fiercely. I’m trying to convince Cassidy to make me popcorn but he might be in a turkey daze so ice cream will suit me.
2 – He’ll be away this weekend so I’m looking forward to cozy, comfy, alone things. Like a hot bath with the window open, and a magazine or book. Eating leftover mashed potatoes and watching Christmas movies. Putting together all the advent calendars I’m surprising them with.
3 – Our town has a holiday parade and we don’t like to miss it. We go to the Miss Florence Diner first and I dress up like a moose. Then we walk outside the diner and watch the parade.
Things I’m happy with:
1 – I’ve been really brave with my heart for awhile in recent weeks and months. And also more clear-headed and clear-hearted about life in general. I think it’s great when you have these awakenings every so often. Every time I have a big one, I think I need a long time to absorb it and sometimes the next one takes years to come to you. It’s ok, though. It always comes back.
2 – Scarlet and I made deviled eggs as an appetizer today and they turned out wonderfully.
3 – I need a lot of cuddles in my life, but Athena isn’t very cuddly – except for early in the morning when she sneaks onto my pillow. And humans are more complex and difficult. Astro and Luna always, always want to cuddle me, though. It’s magical.
Things I don’t understand:
1 – Driving through metropolitan areas. I know I should get it – especially when it’s a grid – but I can’t!
2 – The love languages and how they relate to my life on any given day. I’m learning all about it for next week’s Finish the Sentence Friday, though. Or at least I’m thinking about it.
3 – When people drive slowly in the left lane and don’t seem to get it. How can you not know??!! It’s the same with audible eaters and close talkers, but whatever. What I really don’t understand is cruelty, intolerance, hatred, and violence, but I’m taking the easy way out with left lane drivers.
Things I love to eat at Thanksgiving:
1 – Mashed potatoes, whipped potatoes, mashed potatoes, whipped potatoes! Butter, butter, butter.
2 – Apparently, deviled eggs are very in for Thanksgiving. And we had some amazing appetizers, like a vegetable platter with dip, guacamole, a warm white bean and bacon dip, a charcuterie platter, and something else I’m forgetting. I’m certain it was wonderful, though.
3 – Desserts are always amazing. Like when you use the mixer to make your own whipped cream and then stir it into your coffee and eat more of it than whatever it’s on top of.
Things I need from the store:
I’m quite certain we bought most of this because of the holiday, but here goes.
1 – Heavy cream.
2 – A toy I need for work from Target or Walmart, but I’m afraid to go there tomorrow.
3 – A shampoo that smells like magic.
Things I don’t like to do:
1 – Move away from our pellet stove when it’s on. I am super unproductive when it’s on. I could just stand there all day. When people come over, I don’t always greet them. I just stand at the pellet stove and feel the hot air coming out.
2 – Get out of the shower on a cold morning.
3 – Clean the shower, although I’m ok with the tub.
Things I’ve said out loud to strangers this week:
1 – “Thanks! It’s Betsy Johnson. I dress like this because it’s the only way I can get through winter. The brighter, the better.”
2 – “Well, I’ve never gone by the term, mommy blogger. And I’m not an influencer either. I like to call myself ‘Family Lifestyle.'”
3 – “I like what you did with those sprinkles.”
Things that smell good in this season:
1 – The sticky sap on my hands from decorating the Christmas tree.
2 – Isn’t it always about wood-burning smoke in the air right before sunset?
3 – The way the baking smells rise onto the second floor – where I sit in my office and sniff the air. Then I come downstairs, entranced.
Things I’m thankful for:
1 – The health and vibrance of the kids, their hopes and dreams, and the way they relate to others.
2 – I’m thankful to have steady work – more so than I ever imagined – doing the things I kind of did always imagine I’d do. Photography. Writing. Editing. Although it’s not in the ways I imagined, but who am I to judge myself?
3 – That you’re all the things I’ve got to remember. (the best line from “Take On Me”)
