For full disclosure, I received LulaRoe clothes for review, but I was not otherwise compensated. Except that I took photos of this beautiful family. Except that was unrelated to this. Except that Heather is a longtime friend. Except that still, I’m just doing this all for full disclosure’s sake and because I take blogging and LulaRoe ultra-seriously. All opinions are so my own!
I have searched everywhere for this video clip, in my mind anyway. I have been thinking about it for months. When I actually searched for it in real life, I found it in only seconds! I was a Daria fan back in the day. This clip really says it for ya:
What is it? What are they? They’re leggings. It’s all right. Leggings. All right. When I first heard about LulaRoe, I think I figured that it wasn’t for me. The gamechanger for me – and there’s always a gamechanger – is when I saw someone with a similar body type wearing the leggings. Then I saw yet another woman with my similar body type wearing the leggings. This wasn’t just comfort – this was fashion. You can even call it high fashion. You can do it and wear it and call it what you want.
I get set in my ways, I’ll be the first to tell you. I don’t like skirts and shorts much. I don’t like pants much. That leaves me with.. dresses.. and I do wear a sundress every single day from May until October. In the “old days”, I’d wear some sort of funky and colorful shirt and jeans every day from October until April. That stopped working for me. The best part of the day was going home and taking off my pants and my bra. Something had to give. Two things had to give. One, I had to go up a bra size or two (yippee), but that’s a story for another day. And I already told it way too many times because I clearly have issues. Two, I had to discover new and magical things – leggings, tunics, leggings under dresses, leggings under fishnets stockings, leggings with jean jackets, leggings in all colors of the rainbow, long sweaters, and other magic! I have changed.
Not only that, but Scarlet is hooked too. She won’t wear any other pants. And she’s really into the dresses. Heather graciously gave Scarlet two of these adorable Mae dresses, and some leggings too. Scarlet gets as excited as I do about clothes.
And I get pretty excited!
This outfit was given to me by Heather. She gave me the leggings and the red “Sarah” sweater – which she said is like “wearing a hug” (it is), and I paired it with a slip dress and black boots. Scarlet was an excellent photographer for me.
And now I’m going to let Heather tell you her story. I have known her for 3/4 of my life and I stand by her. I was really excited when she became a LulaRoe consultant – not only for the selfish reason of having more awesome clothes – but because it’s wonderful for her life. She is generous, warm, quirky, fun, helpful, thoughtful, outgoing, and everything you’d want your LulaRoe consultant to be. In fact, I’m going to let her tell you the story now. I thought it would be fun to ask questions:
1 – What was your first pair of LulaRoe leggings? Pictures count too!
I had owned a few of the tops before I decided to dive into these infamous leggings. The patterns were a little intimidating at first, so I went with a lighter color scheme for my first pair. It’s funny that I look at this pair now and think, they aren’t crazy enough! It’s fun to see the transgression in my preferences.
2 – Do you have a favorite pair?
Oh I definitely can’t have just one, but I do have a couple of top favorites right now. The purple argyle are so pretty, and I get so many compliments on them. And for seasonal reasons, my candy cane leggings are a big hit with my kids when I wear them! I currently have about 60 pairs that I own, so it’s so hard to pick favorites.
3 – Why did you decide to start selling LulaRoe?
When becoming a LulaRoe Consultant, your “why” is super important and a huge motivator to keep working hard every day. I battled with severe depression and anxiety after our second son was born, and part of my path to healing was finding something that I could call my own and be a healthy distraction. I truly believe that LulaRoe has saved the quality of my life. The financial gain is wonderful, but it’s so much more than that for me. Helping people pick clothing out that makes them feel confident about themselves is such an amazing reward.
4 – How long did it take to get your LulaRoe business up and running?
When signing up to sell LulaRoe, they have a waiting period that is called “The Queue.” The demand to be a part of this amazing company is so high, so they need to have people wait to get their onboarding call so they can limit the amount of consultants they sign up each day. It’s about a 6-8 week waiting period, which can feel like absolutely torture… but I learned that it is so essential to have that time to get your business prepared and organized, and to educate yourself as much as you possibly can about LulaRoe. After my 8 week waiting period, you receive your inventory and I was selling my inventory that evening! It’s been nonstop ever since!
5 – What are your favorite things about the brand?
Without a doubt, my top favorite thing about LulaRoe is the comfort. There are many different fabrications that are used with each style, but they are all so gosh darn comfortable! People wonder why they call the leggings “buttery smooth”… but then when they try them on for the first time, they always say “They feel just like butter!!” Secondly, it’s such a beautiful and satisfying feeling for women to be stylish while they are simultaneously feeling comfortable! LulaRoe is the first brand of clothing that I’ve been able to feel “dressed up” and when I get home and walk thru the door, I don’t feel the need to change – because I’m already comfortable. Before I was a consultant, I was a very loyal customer and it’s really nice that the price points don’t break the bank either. To be able to purchase a couple pairs of leggings and a couple coordinating tops for under $130 is pretty spectacular.
6 – What’s your favorite non-leggings style of LulaRoe?
Wow, this is a tough question! I live in the Randy tee or Irma tunics most days. The Randy tee is a baseball tee with some added style! Super comfortable and perfect for running around doing errands with my kids. It’s actually a unisex top, so both men and women can wear it! It’s cut a little slimmer, so it fits men really nicely, but also is super flattering on women. The Irma tunic is an oversized top that was made perfectly to pair with the leggings. It has a high/low bottom trim, which is great because the back is longer than the front to cover our tush! It’s also more fitted and flattering in the arms, which a lot of women are very self-conscious about. It’s hard for me to stop there tho! I love the Sarah Cardigans… which a lot of people describe as feeling like you are wearing a hug when you have it on! I wear it literally all day/every day… around the house lounging on the couch (which, as a mom, really isn’t that often!). It covers enough to keep me warm, but it’s so nice and light weight that I never overheat. The dresses and skirts are amazing too, and so complimentary to every body shape. I’m so in love with these clothes.
7 – What has becoming a LulaRoe consultant done for your family?
LulaRoe has given me and my family so many amazing gifts. For one, financial freedom that we never anticipated. It’s literally the first time ever in my life that I’ve seen my hard work actually pay off so quickly. And while I do reinvest some of my earnings back into more inventory, I’m still so thankful for the security it has provided for us. Aside from the fantastic income, it’s also helped me and my family be able to spend more time together. My children to see their Mom working hard and being fulfilled in running a business at home and still get that quality time with them whenever they want it. I’ve always read about these women who become successful running a business out of their home, and it’s pretty fantastic to now be one of them.
8 – Where do you see the company in the future, and where do you see your place in it?
From what I’ve heard, 2017 is going to be the best year yet for LulaRoe. They have become trend setters with their styles and fabrications, and it’s such a privilege to be a part of it. The company is still so young, so there are obviously going to be kinks along the way, but I’m honored to be able to say I joined while it was so new and see the changes as they happened. As far as where I see my place in it, I honestly only see me and my team getting busier and happier! Twenty years from now, I still see myself wearing leggings and feeling stylish!
9 – Do YOU have a unicorn out there that you’re desperately seeking?
Ironically enough, I really don’t. I mean, don’t get me wrong, there are some patterns that I love and if I have the chance to purchase them, I definitely do, but I’m learning to find the beauty in every design. I’m secretly searching for anything that has donkeys or mules on them, but there are millions of other prints I fall in love with every single day!
10 – What do you want everyone to know about LulaRoe, especially if they’re on the fence about trying/buying/falling in love?
I think for anyone who may be hesitant about LulaRoe, my biggest suggestion would be to try everything on. These clothes look completely different on a body than they do when you actually wear them. I’ve seen people completely change their mind about styles because it looks so much more amazing when you have it on. The Nicole dress, for example. The hanger does not do this dress justice. It is such a beautiful and flattering dress on every body shape. When women wear it, they feel so feminine and confident. With LulaRoe, stepping just a little bit out of your comfort zone will take you to some amazing new levels of style and self-confidence. It really is a beautiful thing to witness.
*Bonus – what do you think has propelled you forward?
I think with any business, one of the most, if not THE most important, aspect is providing superior customer service. No business can be perfect all of the time, so what your customers will remember from any good or bad experience is the service that was given to them. Especially with retail, there will be damages, defects, size concerns, etc… so making sure that each customer experiences problem solving and resolutions in a positive way is what will keep any business successful. In addition to customer service, I believe that creating joyful customer relationships has propelled my LulaRoe business even further. A lot of ladies that had started as customers have now become very good friends of mine. I wouldn’t trade those relationships for anything.
Tamara here again. Isn’t she awesome? I’m not-so-secretly looking for LulaRoe leggings with moose on them. Or rainbows. Will it happen? Probably. Cookies? I hope so. Don’t forget to join Heather’s Facebook group! There’s a pop-up at 8pm!
