Cool breeze in your hair, summer sights, and togetherness. No doubt, summer is the BEST for family.
In fact, I make a summer bucket list every early July because I really like to live up to my list. I think making the list helps make it all true. And we have big plans for summer of 2018, as usual. My family really knows how to summer with style!

I found out pretty recently through DiscoverBoating.com that we have so many boating options this summer! In fact, I love DiscoverBoating.com because it helps you to find local boat rentals and clubs near you, has a Boat Selector tool, has great how to videos and boating basics videos, helps you find youth boating programs close to home, and even provides a boat loan calculator. That way you can calculate what it might cost to finance a boat. You can find ALL of that awesome info here.

So you may have guessed what’s #1 on our summer bucket list. Boating!

And not just any boating – we specifically want to be on a motorboat or sailboat. I remember renting a motorboat every summer in Ocean City, MD and LOVING the feeling of the wind in my hair. Des asked if this could be the summer we go on a motorboat together. I told him there was no way I’d say no to that! We also used to rent a sailboat in Myrtle Beach and I can’t wait to feel the wind in my hair from a sailboat! It’s been so many years that I’m so excited to have this tool to help us find some summer boating fun. There’s nothing so soothing yet exhilarating than being in a boat on a sea, river or lake.

Did you know?

  • 142 million Americans (adults and children) go boating each year.

  • Annual U.S. sales of boats, marine products and services totaled $39 billion in 2017, an increase of 7 percent from 2016.

  • It’s not just new boats Americans are buying; there were an estimated 988,200 pre-owned boats (powerboats, personal watercraft, and sailboats) sold in 2017.

  • There are nearly 12 million registered/documented boats in the U.S. in 2016 (2017 data will be available in July 2018).

  • 95 percent of boats on the water (powerboats, personal watercraft, and sailboats) in the U.S. are small in size, measuring less than 26 feet in length—boats that can be trailered by a vehicle to local waterways.

  • Boating is predominantly “middle-class” with 62 percent of boat owners having a household income less than $100,000.

Discover Boating did a survey and discovered that 82% of Americans say being around the water is relaxing, 72% of Americans feel healthier after spending time on the water (I do), and 84% of parents think that their kids would be more likely to unplug on a boat trip versus a road trip. And, 88% of American parents feel that their kids need to get more involved in outdoor activities this summer, like boating. I will say I fully support this statistic!

And here’s the rest of our summer bucket list:
2 – Go raspberry picking!

3 – Go on a moose safari. Even though I go on my own moose safaris every so often, it would be nice to sit back and let someone else lead.

4 – Head to northern New England and rent a cabin. Enough said there!

5 – Truly relax in Cape Cod. We are going soon and we can’t wait!

6 – Have an amazing retreat in Maine. My family is booked for a vacation camping weekend in Waldoboro, Maine in August.

7 – Make raspberry s’mores.

8 – Eat a lot of ice cream with rainbow sprinkles.

9 – Celebrate our summer birthdays in style.

10 – See fireworks one more time this summer.
