That Time I Ate Baby Food and Liked It

Do you want to know a secret? I ate baby food and liked it! I think many parents do this, and I want you to know.. it was pretty pretty good. In fact, my mom has been known to buy jars of Gerber’s Vanilla Custard Pudding to eat all for herself – baby or no baby. Now I don’t currently have a baby here at home, but I have raised two babies into one toddler and one almost-first-grader, so far. Des was a very good sport about modeling this adorable shirt for me!

I Ate Baby Food and Liked It:

I babysat for ten years before I became a mother and the “baby” I helped feed, love and support is now in college. So I feel rightfully old. I also have a nephew, a niece, and probably more of those on the way so I can be a better Super-Aunt! I don’t personally feel that I’m too old for it either, because I have always tested my kids’ food first to make sure it’s good!

Scarlet and Des had very different transitions with chewing and eating table food. Scarlet did a full six months of completely pureed food, whereas Des ate little bits, chunks and larger pieces of table food a bit younger. Every child is different, and your comfort level may be different too.

Gerber Lil’ Bits are filling a gap in early childhood nutrition – with this new and exciting category-changing innovation. Gerber baby food must live up to over 100 quality checks because Gerber has always believed that little ones deserve high standards. It’s highly recommended to introduce pureed foods with advanced textures at the crawler milestone, for children to explore and feel multiple textures in their mouths without having to manage numerous separate baby food components.

As these older babies develop the side-to-side movement of their tongue, they learn to move small and soft pieces of food to their jaws for mashing – the early skills of chewing. Expose your children to “lumpy food” before they’re 10-months-old so they don’t experience difficulties with transitioning to more advanced foods. So much thought goes into this!

    1. That’s too funny. I’mw eird, though!
Des did a lot of baby-led weaning too, where Scarlet really needed these step by step foods.

  1. Funny story: I actually feed this stuff to my chihuahua and he LOVES it! While I can’t stand the smell of the meat flavored ones (vegetarian;-), the fruit and veggie foods actually don’t seem so different from juicing! Good stuff, right there!

    1. That’s funny! Lucky dog.

    1. I can understand that! Scarlet couldn’t ever eat canned green beans, and she’d eat anythign else.
Liese is great! I totally would do the same.

  3. My 7 year old still likes Gerber baby bananas. So, every week we buy him the Stage 2 jars that he loves. I’m pretty sure I’m pretty sure I didn’t introduce him to mixed textures early enough, because he never liked the Stage 3 foods. And he still is a really picky eater today. I was really scared when it came to feeding him. I was always afraid of chocking. If I could go back in time I would have given him more textures early on.

    1. I totally hear you. I was more adventurous with my second, and that’s why he’s more adventurous too, I believe. I’m not sure. The stage 3 foods are formulated so well.

  4. LOL! I have eaten baby food as an adult, too! I liked the fruits and desserts the best of all! Des looks quite adorable in that shirt! Hope you have an amazing week!

    1. ha! I love that you’re admitting it. While we’re on the subject, my dog and cat food smells good. We get them the good stuff. I have never eaten it, but it smells good!

  7. Sounds like a great way for little ones to explore the art of chewing! Bonus points for it being good enough that grownups will eat it, too 🙂

  8. My kiddos were funny with baby food. They were fine with stage 1 but once they could bite on real food they did not want anything to do with the baby stuff! I saw these in the store, people seemed to really like them!

  9. our baby days are long behind us.. I remember tasting everything just to make sure it was warm enough and wouldn’t scald their little tounges. They LOVED their baby food.

  10. I have ate baby food before and it was surprisingly good. The blend of apples, raspberries, and avocados makes a great baby food.

    1. Aw, IBD sounds so rough.
We gave my dog pureed green beans and pumpkin, per the vet’s instruction, so there’s something to be said about it for sure.

  11. So much thought going into what a little one eats! I was one of those crazy ladies making homemade baby food for T, but then L was pretty much Gerber all the way. Then my mom gave L a crusty roll when she was 10 or 11 months old, and she loved it. I suppose textures really do help. I’ll be looking into these when time comes for the new little one!
