Beating The Heat With Cool Summer Treats!
We all know the mom that has the huge bag of Freezies from Sam’s Club in her freezer, and while they are delicious, they are all sugar and can get kind of monotonous! Change it up a bit, get your kids in the kitchen, and try some of these recipes!
Easy peasy, lemon squeezy! All you need is an assortment of pudding cups, (Snack Packs or you could make your own in little cups) a little popsicle stick per pop, assorted sprinkles, candies, and cookie crumbs or other tasty goodies. Insert the stick and the treats around it, and stick the pops in the freezer to chill. They’ll need an hour or two in the freezer. When you are ready to serve them, dip the cup in a little water and the pudding pop should “POP” right out!
I Scream for S’mores!
How about some ice cream s’mores?! Say what?! Seriously! Here is what you do. Take some Little Debbie Swiss Rolls and put them on lollipop sticks. And then completely submerge them in a glass of melted vanilla ice cream and place them directly on a sheet pan that is lined with wax or parchment paper. After that, take some crushed graham cracker crumbs and sprinkle them about generously. You might also want to drizzle a little dark chocolate on there and, why not, throw some tiny marshmallow bits on there too? Place them in the freezer to chill for about 30 minutes. Sorry, I may be drooling!
Frozen Fruit on a Stick:
This is a simple, yet super refreshing treat that keeps everyone happy and hydrated. Simply prep some summer fruits by cutting them into 1 to 1.5 inch pieces and let your kids assemble these cool summer treats! I like to use watermelon, pineapple, strawberry, mango and banana. Lay the assembled fruit skewers on a sheet pan, sprinkle them lightly with some chia seeds, and slightly chill them for 15 to 20 minutes! Everyone will LOVE them.
Theme Nights with Summer Treats:
Get creative with your cool summer treats this year and let your kids take the wheel! Pick up an inexpensive ice cream maker and have Mad Scientist Ice Cream Nights or some popsicle molds for a perfect game of Mystery Pops! Your kids will learn new kitchen skills, you guys will bond a little, and you will all have some delicious summer treats to eat.
