It’s officially Spring..ish in New England. Birds are definitely chirping and singing. Tulips and crocuses are shooting through the earth by the hour. We are using our pellet stove and oil heat less and less, and we’re taking some spring-worthy snoozes!
And of course, as you can imagine, the house gets quite messy with two kids, a light-colored cat, and a shedding dog. How do we keep things in order around here? It’s not always easy, but we’ve gained some wisdom over the years.
Whether you’re handling spring cleaning, or everyday messes with a kid and pet-friendly house, Mr. Clean Magic Eraser is tough on dirt, grease and grime all around our crazy house. It lets us clean smart, and not hard. Mr. Clean Magic Eraser brings the muscle for a spring clean that saves you time and effort all around your home. HGTV host and former Bachelorette Jillian Harris shares wisdom and how Mr. Clean saves her time with her spring cleaning. I love spring cleaning tips.
My favorite dirty little secret comes from Jillian Harris here in this video:
Here are my five favorite time saving spring cleaning hacks to make you sing!

1. Add a lazy susan to your fridge. Growing up, we also had one on our kitchen table. It made passing dinner around to seven people a lot easier. Well the same goes for the fridge. Being able to spin it gives you access to things in the back of the fridge that you otherwise might have spilled or forgotten.
2. Boost your morale. It’s the same as the way I work – with music, open windows and light (if possible) and maybe even a bar of chocolate. Whatever floats your boat. I even watch TV on my iPhone while folding laundry. No shame!
3. Time yourself to save time. Yes, it works. Not only will you be more ambitious while racing the clock, but you’ll also know just how long things actually take. Maybe it only takes ten minutes to clean the shower or toilet. Maybe!
4. Clean your windows on a cloudy day! Sunlight will cause them too dry too quickly and then they leave streaks.
5. Use the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and sit back and relax while it does most of the work! Did you know that Mr. Clean is your secret weapon for so many tough messes around the house? It can work on appliances, countertops and sneakers. Use it on dirty walls, your bookshelf, and cabinets. Sparkle your sink, clean your microwave, and then get to your oven. Use it on the shower, the counter, the floors, the grout, and the mirrors of the bathroom. It can do all of that and more.

Seriously! I’m going to buy lip gloss with mine. Sing!!
We have two Lazy Susans in our house already. We’re Lazy Susan people!
Put the Christmas tree away?
Oh, that’s just me? Okay.
As you can guess, I’m way behind on all of it. I love to make all the glass and mirrors shiny. It makes me feel good.
hahaha! Yes. Put the Christmas tree. That’s a good spring hack. Or maybe take the lights down. Maybe. They can work all year too.
I’m a sucker for shiny glass!
I placed vinegar in a glass measuring cup on the top rack of dishwasher and run a full cycle on hot water to clean.
I have never tried that, but I have heard it’s a great hack. Thank you! Perhaps I will this week before we have dinner guests on Wednesday because that’s when I know we need the dishwasher.
OMG OMG! I NEED MR. MAGIC ERASER!!! I have so many stupid black SCUFFS on my walls – they drive me INSANE. That being said, I never really believed that they work… But perhaps I just need to WIN this giveaway and see for myself! 😉
They really do, GiGi! It’s true earth magic!
I am in the middle of spring cleaning, so your post comes at a great time, Tamara. Would love to win your fab giveaway. Now, back to the cleaning!
Ooh, I hope you win! We’re totally spring cleaning here too, even though it still feels a bit like winter.
Windex works amazingly on sealed ceramic tiles and sealed granite counter tops!
It’s a favorite trick of mine.
I never tried that! I do use it on my phone screen, though. Just the cover – not the actual screen.
Thank you!
I love magic erasers! And i am totally sittting here wondering why I don’t have a lazy susan in my fridge or on my table!! That is brilliant! I need one or two right now.
It was the best thing growing up! I don’t know why we don’t have one now on our table. Pretty sure we got one for our wedding.. hmmm…
BLEACH. I love bleach. I have white sheets so I can bleach them because it’s the only way I feel like they are clean! Toilet? BLEACH. Tub? BLEACH. We have three cats who occasionally decide that the tub makes a better litter box than their litter box. BLEACH.
BLEACH.. because stomach viruses.. right??
It is Spring-ish here in Florida as well with lots of rain which makes for some great spring-worthy snoozes. I also use the Magic Erasers quite frequently in my home.
I need to get some more Magic Erasers for the walls. I love those things, they truly are cleaning magic.
Lately, I have been tackling the house room by room and purging what we do not need. It’s liberating. Shredding papers and recycling them right away has helped with the paper clutter. Oh.The.Paper.Clutter!
XOxO
They are magic! That’s how they get their name. Shredding papers and recycling them is a great idea!
My hack is to teach your kids that cleaning is fun from a young age. Works for me!
Yes! My kids totally still like it. I hope it lasts..
i love jillian harris. had wondered what happened to her. glad to see she’s making a name for herself. i actually bumped into her at a bar in SF and was so surprised at how tiny she is. as tiny as me!
spring cleaning…ahhh…don’t remind me!
Now that’s a good story! Thank you! How fun. I picture you as tall! When people meet me they always say, “Oh, I thought you’d be taller!” I am 5′ 6″. What are they expecting? Six feet??
Oh I just love Jillian Harris! I am doing some spring cleaning (my closet) this week too! I have those Mr. Clean sponges in my cleaning supply cabinet. They are the greatest cleaning invention ever!
I have so many of them, I’m embarrassed to say how many. I think I need one for every room of the house! We’re doing spring cleaning too.
Oh I forgot – my hack is do a little each day to keep up with it all! 🙂
Hey, that’s a good one!
Spend some time going through the kids clothes, winter is over… toss them out and make room for summer clothes!
Yes! My favorite time of year is that!
A lazy susan in the fridge is a great idea! I need to do that. My cleaning hack is to go room by room. It feels good to be able to cross a room off the list 🙂
It sure does! Sometimes I even write them as single line items on a to do list. Feels great!
I always clean rooms from the top down, so the dirt that you knock off of lamps, tables, etc will get cleaned up when you sweep the floors.
Hey, that’s brilliant! Thank you for sharing.
I dust with fabric softener sheets. Keeps dust from building up and smells good too.
I just read about doing that. What a great idea! I love the smell of the many of them.
I like cleaning with lemon essential oil. It just makes everything smell fresh ☺.
Yup! I love the smell of lemons in the house.
My secret weapon is my 8-year-old. He thinks cleaning is fun. (Not inherited from his mother.) I don’t know how long it will last but I plan to utilize it while it works!
My kids still do too! It’s like a miracle and I will keep letting them think it’s fun, as long as humanly possible.
I cut lemons and put them in the garbage disposal to deodorize it!
I like it! We had a garbage disposal at our old place and I miss it.
clean with a water and vinegar solution
I used to be an Innkeeper and all the housekeepers used it!
Mr. Clean erasers are amazing!
And it really is spring….ish around here. I keep waiting for it to feel warmer, especially after a few days in Vegas where it was in the 80s.
I use water and vinegar for everything.
Love Mr. Clean Magic Erasers. Hate Spring cleaning. I’d much rather get outside and put in some plants or spread mulch. Love the tip to put a lazy susan in the fridge!
Ooooh, we have a Mr. Clean Magic Erase marker but I haven’t used it yet. And since our apartment is in dire need of a scrubbing you have inspired me that there’s no time like the present 🙂
I’ve found it’s good to stay on top of little cleanups here and there, ie, wipe down the bathroom mirrors or sweep the kitchen. Also helps that we live in an apartment the size of a closet :p
Oh my goodness, the lazy susan in the fridge… what a great idea! I have to get on that ASAP!
I love Mr. Clean Magic Erasers – they’re amazing… but now I have so many more uses for them! Thanks!
xoxo
Yesterday I saw someone using them for marker on the couch! That’s really magical.
Mr. Clean has never done me wrong! I love the lazy susan idea!! I need to enter this giveaway stat.
I heard yesterday about someone using the magic eraser on marker on their couch! Good luck to them, but it shows the power of the product.
Use a designated mop (one purchased just for this task) to clean walls. I used to clean by hand with a rag, but a mop is so much easier and faster.
We have a clean as you go policy in our house. If you allow dozens of smaller chores to pile up, it becomes overwhelming.
I like to watch tv shows while cleaning because it makes the chore more enjoyable. 🙂
Me too! I use my little ABC TV app and watch Once Upon a Time or Grey’s Anatomy.
these are wonderful to use in the classroom. They work wonders with getting dry erase markers off things!
Ohh, that’s a good tip! I never thought about that!
I like to clean my windows with vinegar and water and newspaper.
The lazy susan in the fridge is Brilliant!! Holy cow. Think of the time I will save when everyone who stands in front of the open fridge for 15 minutes looking for the ketchup and cannot see it Right There at the back of the fridge, behind the pickles… they can just spin and find!! 🙂
I always listen to music when I clean. It just makes it more of a dance party that way.
Oh yeah. I do that all the time! Spin and find – it’s genius.
I better make sure all lids are securely fastened. I can just see this turning into a brand new game and the inside of my fridge end up looking like a Pollock design with condiments.
use a mop or something with a long handle to clean tub so no stooping.
I like to clean one room at a time, top to bottom. Don’t get distracted!
My favorite cleaning hack is mixing peroxide and Dawn dish liquid (the blue kind). I use it to clean everything from laundry to carpet.
My favorite hack is to get together with your best friend, have hubby take the kiddos out for the day, turn on your favorite tunes and get to work. Enjoy the laughs and quality time with your friend and a CLEAN house, that’s a WIN, WIN, WIN. tmichellecooper55@gmail.com
I love Mr. Clean Magic Erasers! They work great for cleaning shoes (takes the scuffs and dirt right off) and also on the stainless steel stove top and refrigerator.
I also use newspaper for cleaning mirrors/windows.
OxiClean worked great to clean the nasty grout in the bathroom floor tile. Even the magic eraser wasn’t touching the dirt ground into the tile and grout. I took 1 scoop of OxiClean and diluted it in a gallon of water. I literally stood in the doorway, took the entire gallon of solution, and threw it onto the bathroom floor and walked away for an hour. It was fun and felt liberating! After an hour, I took a plastic bristle handle brush (like one you would clean dishes with), and scrubbed the tile. It was incredible how much dirt and grime came right up. I had tried various ways for months to get the floor clean – nothing else worked. I hardly had to scrub the floor for all the junk to come up. To clean it up, I used several old towels to mop up the floor then used the floor steamer to give it a final clean. The Shark floor steamer is a great way to clean tile/wood floors without using chemicals.
Hope these tips are useful! =)
I soak shower head in vinegar to get rid of water lime
That’s a great idea! I’m going to try that.
Nothing like a good spring cleaning to make everything feel fresh again.
So true. And maybe it will make spring actually come!
