Yum. Tamara here for just a bit. I invited PinkWhen Jennifer here because she’s an excellent blogging friend, and friend in general, and I also love her recipes and photos. I thought it’s about high time someone who actually cooks posts a recipe on here! Check out her blog because she has a wealth of information about recipes, oils, COOKIES, and other delights.
Hello fellow Tamara Like Camera friends. Are you having withdrawals from not having Tamara around yet? I know how you feel. It is a habit to head over here every day to see exactly what she has been up to. It’s like a televised soap opera, without the major ups and downs….but it’s just as addicting! Don’t you agree? Since she is off making precious memories and drafts for awesome future posts, I am going to try and fill a little of the void with some comfort food. I always like to east when I’m down, so here is a Slow Cooker Chicken and Sausage Gumbo recipe to help fill that missing Tamara void until she returns next week.
Oh and I almost forgot – I’m Jen from PinkWhen, and I am happy to be here with YOU today! I have a little blog over in another corner of the web where I share fun DIY crafts and recipes. I’m so happy to be here sharing one of my favorite Southern recipes with you.
I know you are probably thinking – recipe? Really? Where are all of those fun photos and awesome stories, and music lyric posts that I come to see every day? While I can’t possibly ever write as awesome of a post as Tamara, I CAN share with you a downright delicious Southern recipe that will fill your tummy and have you asking for seconds!
Slow Cooker Chicken and Sausage Gumbo
Here is what you will need for this recipe:
- 10 cups water
- 4 chicken breasts (uncooked and cut in cubes)
- 1 pound andouille sausage cut in bite sized pieces(if you can’t find andouille – use your favorite smoked sausage)
- 1 chopped red onion
- 1 chopped green bell pepper
- 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 1 (28oz can) garlic and basil flavored diced tomatoes
- 1 (10oz can) diced tomatoes with green chilis (ROTEL)
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tsp basil
- 1 tsp black pepper
Here is the easy part. Turn the slow cooker on LOW and dump all of the ingredients into the slow cooker. Stir to mix well. Place cover on and cook for 8 hours, stirring occasionally. Serve over a hot bed of rice.
This is a super simple and deliciously flavored Southern Style Chicken and Sausage Gumbo recipe. It’s sure to warm your belly during this freezing cold winter.
I hope you enjoy this recipe, and thank you again Tamara for inviting me over!
The intro had me smiling and again so my twin, as don’t nearly cook much here at all either and yet this recipe definitely looked so delicious and of course wish I did cook more to try. So thank you to Jennifer to sharing with us all today.
I’m honored to be here! It’s never the same when Tamara isn’t around, but maybe this will help warm everyone up from the blizzard!
I know and miss her like crazy, but you are doing a great job holding down the fort today 🙂
You two and Eli saved the week! I missed you all and can’t believe I’ve never met any of you!
Aww, I think I wouldn’t be stepping on toes to say we love you and missed you terribly, too!!
Only 12 more hours and then I’ll be homeward bound.
Yay and I am just excited to have you back very soon now 😉
You will know when it happens because..comments will happen again!
Oh thank god they just allowed spellcheck on my wp app! It was getting tedious.
Thanks so much! I miss her, too. 🙂
And here I am!
Well it’s only that way because it’s my blog but your post so rocks!!!
I don’t cook at all but I would make this for sure!
I would love this. Yum. I love anything in the slow cooker.
Me, too! 🙂
I agree. It’s such a wonderful thing for fall and winter. And all year, really!
This sounds so tasty! I love using my crock pot!
It’s insanely easy…and the best part is you almost feel guilty for eating something so delicious that tastes like it took forever to make!
Same!! Yum. One of the few things I love about this weather is that it gets Cassidy to use the slow cooker more.
Hi Jennifer! Thank You for this yummy and colorful recipe. This slow cooked chicken and sausage gumbo is very nourishing and warming. This is a perfect dish for a cold and snowy winter day like today with four inches of fresh snow on the ground and temps in the teens.
This would be so perfect for today!
Eddie, your comments are art!
What A Complement! Thank You, Tamara!
What A Complement! Thank You, Tamara!
Mmm, this sounds delicious, and perfect for dinner on a cold winter night. I may have to trek out in the snow to buy the ingredients to make this! Thanks for sharing your recipe, Jennifer!
It will be totally worth it if you do 🙂
I can’t wait to make it when we get back. This warm weather has spoiled us and we’re in for a shock!
This looks good! I will have to cook for the hubby one day soon!
Lucky hubby!
Yum! Thanks for sharing, Jen! Hope you’re having a great time, Tamara!
I am – thanks!! Looking forward to getting back my groove, though.
Good gracious this looks delicious. So glad Tamara had you over today. I’d add only one thing to this – a hunk of fresh white break with butter on top.
More butter than bread, in my case. I do disgusting things with butter!
I wish you’d write about that.
As far as I’m concerned, most foods are just vehicles to eat more butter.
God Bless America. i once had graham crackers with butter on them. Shh.
Done. Also, baked potatoes or homemade popcorn both require a half stick of butter. Right?
You have to have bread with it! DEFINITELY!
Ya, I admit it, Jen. I began convulsing around the 2nd paragraph due to Tamara withdrawal. But you have proven yourself worthy. The recipe looks dang delicious and I need it in my stomachs immediately. My husband will love me if I make him this. And by “love me”, I think we all know what that means. ((wink-wink)
You just won my blog. Won it. See your husband for your prize!
You are so awesome! Thank you so much 🙂
Oh my, this looks so good! I have always been scared to try making gumbo, but doing it in the slow cooker kind of takes the scary away for me. Thanks for sharing this. Just pinned!
I’m scared too! Jen is good at taking away the scary!
Nice to see you here Jennifer! I could totally go for some gumbo right now. Thanks for the recipe!
You are another blogger who has incredible recipes!
You are too sweet! Thank you!
Well it’s true! And now I’m so excited that I get to catch up on posts.
This looks good – I’m all about using my crockpot a lot and this will be perfect on a cold night!!!
I agree! Can’t wait to make it when we get home.
I never tried gumbo because I always thought it had seafood in it. (I’m allergic to seafood). This looks like a gumbo that I can actually eat 🙂 Yum!!
Oh no!! All seafood?
I miss Tamara =( but I’m delighted you came here to share this yummy recipe! =) My hubby loves gumbo… the fact that I can use the crockpot has me SOLD!
Thanks so much for sharing.
Wishing you a lovely day.
xoxo
I miss you too!! Can’t wait to go through my Bloglovin. It’s bursting at the seams!
It looks great 🙂 Have a beautiful week dear Tamara !!!
You too, dear!
This looks like something my husband would love to eat.
Mine too!! He’s already talking about it.
I love gumbo and this looks amazing!
I have never had gumbo! Jen has made me so excited.
Yum! I’m always up for a good recipe – especially an easy slow cooker recipe for those busy weeknights. This may have to be added to our rotation soon. Thanks for sharing!
I’m so glad you liked it! Jen is the best.
Hi Jen!!! This recipe looks DELICIOUS!!! So lovely to see you HERE!! (I’ll never forget the support you gave me with my tumor, my friend. Never.) XOXO
Hey T! Hope you are having a MARVELOUS TIME!!!!! 🙂
I am!! But I’m coming back tomorrow so.. Boo? Yay? I’m happy to get back to blogs.
Yum, that looks great! Thanks for the recipe!
Melanie @ meandmr.com
Thanks for visiting us! And Jen always has the best recipes.
Nice to meet you Jen! Cooking in my slow cooker is my favorite. This looks delicious and I’ll definitely be giving it a try. Thanks for sharing1
Now that I’m back from Florida, I’m looking to use the slow cooker. I will update you all how it goes!
Yum! Trying this at home… as soon as I find those spices!
Good luck finding them! Cassidy is the king of fighting spices.
Go and find them and if not, order them online. It’s such an awesome meal. 🙂
Oh me, oh my, this sounds and looks absolutely delish!! And yes, I’m missing Tamara 🙂
Thanks for sharing your recipe, pinning this for sure.
XOXO
You made me smile! I’ve been so missing everyone. I’m happy to announce that I’m back! And I did not mark all of my blog posts as unread in Bloglovin. I can’t wait to see what everyone has been up to.
:::HAPPY DANCE::: I’m glad you made home safe; I’m looking forward to your recaps. 🙂
XOXO
Yay! I have no idea what I’ll write. I’ll just tell the stories!
Tamara! I hope that you have having a fabulous time in Florida! And Jen, I’m from Louisiana so I love a good gumbo! Yum!
Amy!!! So excited to see your name pop up. I just got back this afternoon. I’m a little bummed but also excited to just get back to living my life.
Yay Amy! Love another Louisiana girl 🙂
This looks delicious Jen. Thanks for sharing. I’m getting ready to pin it. Tamara I know you are on your way home. Hope you had a safe trip.
I did, thanks! Just got back this afternoon. Des was a little whiny on the flight but a laptop full of Disney channel fixed that. I listened to satellite radio and stared out the window. Scarlet switched seats with me. Usually I’m the middle.
Thanks so much 🙂 I hope you try it!
Yum! Looks wonderful and easy too. Will pin!
So glad! I just pinned it too and I already saw re-pins! Delicious.
I so want to learn how to make gumbo. This recipe looks super simple. Thanks.
Me too! I will try this weekend. So excited.
Jen – this looks delicious! Ever since I tried gumbo in New Orleans I’ve been wanting to make it, but I’m afraid I’ll screw up. I think I can do this, though. And welcome home, Tamara!
Thanks!! Home to a winter advisory. Yay?
It’s good stuff!! You will love it.
Looks almost as good as pumpkin stew!! ☺️ Glad to have you here!
Ha! The only two times I’ve posted recipes…
See…now I feel special because I am one of two 🙂
Yes, and I learned something from this. From the stats and the pins, I have learned that people like to read about food! Shame on me.
I’m going to make that stew some day. I just learned how to make pasta…so I’m getting there. I’m not sure about the food blogging though…maybe I should try it…
It really helps my stats! Too bad I don’t cook at all and both posts have been written by others.
Ahh so good! I’m making this for the weekend. Can’t wait.
I hope you enjoy! Let me know how it comes out.
Let me know what you think when you make it!
I will definitely make this over the weekend! Unless you want to try your hand at it.
You can do it! I will probably screw it up.
OKAY! This recipe looks like a winner and our slow cooker is all ready for it. I will just have Dad leave out those silly green chilis and we are THERE! YUM!
Thanks for commenting, mom! I actually like green chilies! I discovered them in my California heyday.
This looks sooo good. I was just thinking I needed a new slow cooker recipe for the church small group that we host on Monday nights. Done & done.
