Scarlet Is In The Hotseat!

Today is a very fun day with two of my close blogging friends.

I have no doubt that if Jen, Eli and I were all neighbors, we would finagle some sort of food shoot through our houses, in which we could send each other burgers and fresh-baked cookies. And that’s only if we didn’t want to see each other for a drink or a snack, out on my TARDIS patio. (bigger on the outside, in that case) And of course we would want to see each other often!

First, I am over at Eli’s blog, Coach Daddy, on Friday talking about stormtroopers and the crazy questions our kids ask us.

And next, we have PinkWhen Jen! Jen and I have already been Ask Away Friday partners back in November, so we decided to put our adorable daughters in the hotseat today. They will be answering all sorts of kid-related questions that we came up with.

(Jen’s daughter, Addy.)

To read Addy’s answers when she’s in the hotseat, link HERE. And here are Scarlet’s answers to ten questions:

1. What is the last dream you remember having?

A bad dream. I forgot it mostly and then I had another bad dream with an old lady in a car and she didn’t watch out for me. The lady said, “Get out of my way!” And then I was on a very fun playground – with things to play on that were the tallest in the world, or the tallest I’d ever seen. It was my new school. It was kindergarten, but it still had the same teachers as my old school.

2. What do you want to be when you grow up?

A princess. Actually, I already am one, but maybe a doctor. Actually, I don’t know what I want to be yet. Is that ok?

3. What is your favorite movie and why?

Frozen, because it’s the best movie on earth. Probably. Well, “Let It Go” and all of the other songs make me feel so good. I also love the story.

4. What is your favorite song?

“Let It Go” – because it’s from Frozen and I really, really love Frozen. I love the words. They make me feel happy. The song is about letting Elsa’s powers go, and learning to be alone. My favorite grown up song is “King of Pain.” (The Police)

5. What are you most looking forward to in school this year?

Reading. I don’t really know why. I’m excited to read and I think it’s because I’d like to read books to my friends.

6. What is your favorite dessert and why?

S’more’s Pie – because of the stuff that’s made in it, but I don’t like the chocolate parts sometimes. I don’t really like all kinds of chocolates, the way you (Mama) don’t like dark chocolate sometimes. It’s just too much at once.

7. Do you have a favorite blanket or stuffed animal?

My favorite blanket is my spotted blanket (given to her by Cassidy’s friend, Tina). My favorite stuffed animals are our two cats! Hahahahahaha! (all Scarlet’s original words)

8. How many pets does your family have and what are their names?

There’s one cat – Bella. Our second cat is Dinah and then there’s Athena. She’s a fox who’s really a dog!

9. Do you have a favorite color? What is it?

Blue! Because it’s Elsa’s color in Frozen.

10. What do you want to be for Halloween? Does it scare you or is it fun?

I want to be Supergirl because I have the dress already. Some things about Halloween scare me, but it’s really fun!

Tamara, back here. I just want to point out that I was Supergirl for Halloween quite a few times, and it will always remain my favorite costume! Even over the California Raisin costume my mom bought me in third grade. (although it was close)

  1. So smiling at your Supergirl costume and seriously you rocked that costume. And yes Scarlet would definitely get along with my girls, especially with her shared love of all things Frozen, as well, as her love of the color blue, because as Lily tells me, “It is Elsa’s favorite color, so therefore it is her favorite, too!”

    1. I am smiling too! I think I need a new version of that costume. It’s been through a lot. I have to say that Elsa blue is quite a pretty blue!

      1. I love that there is smiles all around on this Friday morning and as much as I am the pink girl through and through, I have to admit Elsa blue is most definitely a pretty blue!! 🙂

            1. That is funny because sometimes Scarlet says yellow is her favorite color! I think she’s probably like me where it’s very hard to narrow down one. I love rainbows and the combinations of colors.

  2. I love that her favorite stuffed animals are your cats! That is just the most adorable comment! Right now my kitties are not my favorite because one of them brought in fleas while we were away! Ugh! So now we are dealing with that. I still have not seen Frozen!!

    1. I am so sorry about fleas! Mostly, our kittens are just too adorable. There is one that I’m not as attached to. And then there is one that I pretty much think is an interactive stuffed animal. Such a love!

  3. Such a wonderful swap! S’mores pie sounds very yummy! My daughter just got to see Frozen and she loves it too! Reading is a wonderful thing to learn, it can take you to lots of faraway places with just a bit of imagination.

And Tamara, abolutely love the Super Girl costume! Halloween is so much fun! Happy almost Friday and hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend!

    1. I think reading was my favorite milestone of my own life. It changed everything and I’m so excited that she gets that she’s about to enter into a whole new world. Or worlds, rather.

Have a wonderful weekend! Nice cohosting with you as always!

  4. Ha! I had to sneak over here and grab the link and see what all of her answer’s were like. They are much longer than Addy’s! LOL. I had to “interject” a lot of stuff 🙂 My post goes live at 1am CST so make sure to catch it. There is even a little video just for Scarlet….albeit a quiet and subdued one…

    1. Oh good! And I went back to get your link to add to my post. I love yours. This was so much fun! Thank you for helping me come up with the idea and the wonderful questions.

    1. It was really funny! She doesn’t have one favorite stuffed animal, although there are several that she might like on any given day.
Now the poor kittens are treated like stuffed animals!

  5. Scarlet, you made me burst out laughing at your awesome storm trooper helmet! I was laughing WITH you because you reminded of an actor name Rick Moranis in a movie called “Spaceballs”. Your mom will explain. Blue is my favorite color too! Excellent choice on “Let It Go” from Frozen and yes, you make a terrific Princess! S’mores are so yummy and I like the melted marshmallow part the best! Have a great school year and tell Athena hi from me and my
Golden Retriever, Phoenix. Also tell your mom she was a soaringly wonderful Supergirl 🙂

    1. Scarlet said to tell you that her mama once wore the Supergirl costume to a convenience store on a dare. In the spring! Not at Halloween. And she also said to tell you that she just saw the wonderful movie “Spaceballs.” Great parenting over here, Ha!

  6. I loved reading Scarlet’s answers. She really loves Frozen, but my kids do too. My son can’t wait to watch it on Christmas (because he is hoping that it will be cold and snowy).

    1. That is so cool! We saw it in the movie theaters but it came out Thanksgiving weekend, so it wasn’t out on DVD by Christmas last year. This year!

    1. Thank you! It’s my favorite costume. I think I’m due for an upgrade because that $40 costume from 10 years ago has traveled the country.
I would love our daughters to meet one day!

    1. I know! We’ve been having kindergarten play dates for everybody to get to know each other and one of the mothers said to me yesterday, “I just want to throw up over it.” I started laughing because I feel the same.

  7. She is such a sweetie pie and so intelligent! Funny but my 5 year old boy would have answered all the questions with some kind of frozen relation as well. I completely pictured her voice when reading this! Great idea 🙂

  8. Reading was my favorite thing about kindergarten, Scarlet. It’s still one of my favorite things! And S’Mores pie – yum! I love the chocolate parts, so if we ever shared you can have my marshmallow parts and I’ll take your chocolate parts. Or we can each have our own huge piece!

  9. Oh Scarlett!!!!! What a great job you did answering such great questions!!! Do you know BLUE is MY favorite color too? And it is SO WONDERFUL you look forward to reading… I bet watching your mom read all the time has really got you wanting to read more. I am SO excited for you to start Kindergarten this year!!! You are gonna LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!!

I would like a smore’s pie. And whatever chocolate you’re not into? I will have.

Give your mama a big long squeeze for me, okay?

    And Des.

    And the kitties.

    And Athena.

And Daddy when he gets home!!

  10. I want to make a copy of these questions and ask my own daughters! I have a feeling they would have similar answers when it comes to Frozen. 😉 Now I have The King of Pain running through my head…it’s one of my favorite songs, too.

    1. You’re the first to point it out! It’s one of my favorite songs in life, so I was very heartened to hear that answer. You should use these questions!

  11. Super cute! Of course her favorite movie is Frozen lol I saw it for the first time a few weeks ago it was a good movie – I could see the crazy behind it. I haven’t even thought about Halloween – I don’t go dress up really or celebrate anymore, lol – I buy my own candy thanks! Besides, I prefer cupcakes and cookies – DELICIOUS! That’s what I love most about the holiday season: the food!! It’s been a long week so can’t wait for the weekend, hope yours is awesome -Iva

    1. Sorry to hear about the long week!
One of my favorite parts of adulthood is being able to choose my own candy! I buy myself the king size, of course.
Dressing up is still wicked fun for me.

      1. Eh – it will be a fabulous weekend so focusing on that! Halloween was forbidden in my house because my mother was a psycho Jehovah’s Witness – that’s a story for another time – so I basically would sneak candy when able. 🙂 As I got older I did what i wanted but sadly that joy of dressing up was never instilled. 🙂

        1. Sounds like a story indeed! You don’t have to share if you don’t want!
I just love how Halloween lets me be a princess and a superhero. Even though we don’t need costumes to feel that way.

  12. Scarlett, Frozen is our favorite movie around here as well! We even took Olaf around with us this summer so he could have a fun time during his first summer ever! Have fun at kindergarten 🙂 It’s going to be great!

Tamara- You should totally go as Supergirl (or maybe her Mom)! Do you still have the costume?

    1. Wow! I’m glad Olaf finally got to know what life was like “in summer”!

I do still have the costume but it has taken some beatings! I think I’ll buy a new one. I owe it to myself. Sassy.

  13. Scarlet is SO articulate. She is way more in touch with her feelings. At that age, my son would’ve answered “x” because “I like it”. That’s it. I would love to ask more questions like that to my children!

    1. I was honestly expecting one word answers. She surprised me! She is very eloquent but sometimes just not in the mood. She was very excited about these questions.

  14. So fun! Scarlet’s answers were cute! My girls decided over lunch at McDonald’s yesterday that they are all going to be Minions from despicable Me for Halloween! 🙂

  15. OK I am so loving Scarlet here. While I’m reading I’m so picturing her voice saying all those things. Madison is so becoming the super talker now and I guess those speech therapy classes really paid off because now she won’t ever stop talking lol. btw you totally rocked that Supergirl costume and I can’t wait to see Scarlet in hers. 🙂

    1. Up until this interview, I thought she was being Belle for Halloween! I must say I like this idea very much.
Des never stops talking but it’s not clear yet. Scarlet was a lot more articulate at two! It’s adorable, though.

    1. I totally agree. I think Princess Doctor or Doctor Princess are legit job titles.
Or maybe she’ll be them both, but at separate times. Like I sometimes do with my work. If I’m shooting a wedding, not sure if they care if I’m a writer too!?
      Or something.

  16. OMG SCARLET LIKES READING!?!?!?!??!?!?!?! I hated reading SO MUCH my mom thought I did not know how to read so she made me go to a school for kids with learning disabilities! I went for 3 years and aced ALL of my classes and they finally told me that I didn’t ever need to be there, I was just stubborn, except…… Since I went there for 3 years and they were teaching classes a little slower, they MADE ME STAY BACK A GRADE!!!!!! OH MAN, I was ANGRIER than when my mom forced me to READ BOOKS! lol!

They apparently said I read at the normal school level and I was writing like a college student. Mind you, this was in 4th grade! BOOM – what now mom, what now?! LOL!

    1. Ha! Of course. And fourth grade was only ten years ago for you so now you’re reading at a Mensa level!
Scarlet can’t read yet but she’s most excited that she’s about to learn how!

    1. I so agree! Aren’t most of us more than one thing?! For sure. I admit I wondered if she’d say Mama! She told me it’s her favorite of my three jobs.

  17. 1. What is this movie you call “Frozen”? I’ve … never heard of it. (I wonder if Disney knew this would get in every girl’s heart like this).

    2. You’re every mom’s dream, Scarlet. “Mama, will you eat the chocolate out of my dessert?” Mom: “Again? Well … OK.”

    3. Tamara, you should wear your Supergirl costume to the grocery store. On Not-Halloween. Or the cookie shop. Please. Just once.

    1. You know it’s happened, right? I did it on a dare. All over the place! I’d be happy to do it again.. The cookie store has never seen it!

  18. You are a real life supergirl!! Love the costume! And I can totally picture out Scarlet answering the questions. Such a smart little girl. I would love for Reiko to love reading too and will definitely have to work on it! On my way to Eli’s blog now…

  19. Way to go, Supergirl(s)! I’m still smiling about Scarlett’s wonderfully honest answers. Maybe not so much about her being so smitten with Frozen, though it is a cute film and story 🙂 Love her honesty e.g. not knowing what she wants to be when she grows up. And her stuffed cats…?! Unbeatable – LOL

    1. I thought that was really funny too! Especially because one of our cats does remind me of an interactive stuff animal. I appreciate her honesty very much. It reminds me of me!

  20. She is SERIOUSLY too much! So wise beyond her years and way sweeter than any s’more could ever be 🙂 However, I hear the words “froze” and “let it go” and I start to shake and shudder. Flashbacks to a very long winter.

    1. I know! I know it very much. And these cold, fall like mornings aren’t helping. I honestly don’t know if I can cope with another winter. It ages me. You can come to Florida with us if you want!

  21. OH. MY. CUTENESS! Scarlet is too cute!!! I loved her answers; I’m a huge Frozen fan too 🙂 I sing everything to the tune of “Do you want to build a snowman”, ask my poor kiddos 😀
I thought Princess Elsa was going to be her pick for Halloween, but of course Supergirl makes sense!
I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up either, do I have to grow up?

    1. I thought Elsa too! She has the costume already, though, and wears it a lot so maybe she just wanted something new? Who knows if she will actually go through with this!

And no! You don’t have to grow up! I didn’t know what I wanted to be until recently, and I’m sure it’s still subject to some change, or tweaking.

  22. Hearing her wonderful replies made me realize that we have a real kindergartener here! Hysterical matching photos!

    1. I know! Couldn’t you just cry? She was so amazing today in the store getting our bridal dresses. I would love to hear more about what it was like for you when I started kindergarten. Or more accurately, when Lindsay did! What were your feelings?

  23. This is the cutest and sweetest ever. I love her answers – that she wants to be a princess…actually she already is one {I love when Everett says “actually” to clarify a statement. So grown up} but then isn’t sure what she wants to be when she grows up. Jasper is actually quite worried sometimes that he doesn’t know what he want to be when he’s older and I try to explain to him that he has plenty of time. And “King of Pain” is one of my favorite songs too!

    1. Actually is a wonderful word! What I think is funny is that I’m in my 30s, and I only recently figured out what I want to be when I grow up. And I know now that it is subject to change and tweaking along the way.
I certainly always had the idea, but I never looked at it as a profession. More like something I had to do before exploding.

    1. Thanks! I felt like it was time to add her in, after the rest of my family has participated. Although, Des really needs to do his own when he’s older and not just me writing in his voice when he was one!

  24. What a cute post! I can envision, years from now, Scarlet looking at this piece and reading it to her own children. A beautiful gift for both of you.

  25. Hahaha this was such a clever swap! The answer she gave about what she thought about s’mores pie and the reference to what you (Tamara) think about dark chocolate sometimes made me thing about how much she is really like you, Tamara! She’s like a mini you. It sounds like she wants to help everyone and be there for them…could that be the reason for the doctor idea? For whatever reason, I saw you, Tamara, in these answers. 🙂

    1. Thank you! I love that you saw me here. She has been saying the doctor thing for awhile. When I was her age, I said I wanted to be a garbage woman! Hilarious, right?

  26. I LOVE the stuffed cats comment but I love that Athena is “a fox who’s really a dog” even more!!!!! HAHA! Aw. I love her talky talk ways. Does she have to grow up? And you rock that supergirl/woman costume like it ain’t nobodies business! This exchange was too cute!

  27. Such fun! I love that she doesn’t exactly know what she wants to be just yet. It leaves all the possibilities open, no? Frozen is also a huge hit with both our girls here, too.

    1. That is so cool! My mom is an artist and the story behind it was that she was going to make it because it was too expensive to buy it. However she had five kids and I remember her buying the supplies but she said she’d never find the time. So she bought it for me and we were both happy!

    1. Another thing I’d like to do is take 10 questions that she asks me and answer them. That’s my new idea for an Ask Away Friday in which I don’t have a buddy.
