My mom is the hostess with the most-est, and one thing my parents do best is coffee. Whenever they have people over for parties, or even just their own children for holidays and other events, they give us the royal treatment. They put out mugs, sugar and cream in saucers, sugar substitutes in packets, whipped cream, stirring spoons, and sometimes flavored creamers for us all to choose from. Some of us do decaf only. Some do caffeine or half-caf. And some do flavored. Some do plain.
My favorite ways to make coffee at home? The holiday way! That’s right. Cold days and nights, early sunsets, togetherness. To me that is everything I love about Barnie’s Coffee. Their coffees are roasted with high quality beans and unique flavor combinations. We can’t do a holiday season without Santa’s White Christmas! This is America’s favorite flavored coffee – with a cult-like following for 37 years! I get that. It’s flavored with coconut, caramel, and roasted nuts. This amazing and inspiring flavor creates emotional connections, AND, makes the perfect holiday gift. Think of everyone on your shopping list who will love it. Think of YOU! Santa’s White Christmas soothes the soul and makes us feel good. Besides the holiday season, I’m always glad I have it at home in the winter. Do you have a slump time of day? I know for some it’s early, mid, or late morning. For others, it’s afternoon or evening. For me, it’s in that 3:00-5:00pm zone, especially during the winter when the sun sets so early behind the wall of trees on our property. There is nothing like fighting that afternoon slump with delicious Barnie’s Coffee.
- Head outside in daylight for ten minutes. It would have to be pretty cold for me to miss doing this.
Take a brain break. Read a chapter of a book, do a crossword puzzle, or beat a Sudoku puzzle.
Reach out to someone with an “I was thinking about you” phone call, email, text, etc.
Stretch! Stretching can provide a quick boost of energy, and it feels so good.
Chew peppermint gum or sniff peppermint oil. Sometimes I’ll even put a drop in my hand.
Take a catnap. My favorite? 20 minutes on the couch with the sun streaming onto my face while the kids watch a TV show.
Listen to energizing music with headphones.
And for a special treat, I’m sharing a recipe for “Snow Cookies”! My kids love these because sprinkles. And cookies. They’re so good! They’re a perfect delight to pair with Santa’s White Christmas. Snow Cookies and Santa’s White Christmas:
2 3/4 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1 tsp vanilla
12 oz. white chocolate chips
Blue snow flake sprinkles
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. In a medium sized bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and baking powder, and then set aside. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until fluffy. Add vanilla and egg, and mix. Slowly add dry ingredients a little at a time, mixing well between each addition. Drop rounded teaspoonfuls of dough onto cookie sheet, about 2 inches apart. Bake 9-10 minutes until cookies start to turn golden. Then, melt white chocolate chips in a medium sized bowl on 30 second intervals. Once cookies have cooled, dip half of the cookie into the chocolate, and top with snowflake sprinkles for a fun winter treat.
