Road ID for Outdoors Family Exercise

It was nearly a year ago today, in which I discovered just how much I like long walks on the beach.

Although I’m not so sure I’d call them “walks” – favoring instead to call them power walks, runs, skips, jumps, and anything I can do with my heart racing, and music pounding through my ears. Or is it my heart pounding, and music pulsing through my ears? It’s both. I have known for some time that I love the feel of consistent movement. I love deep breaths, long and relieving drinks of water, and how familiar it feels, every morning when I’m lucky to put one foot in front of the other.

And it’s even better when I’m trying to keep up with one of them:

I started doing walking/running intervals because I felt like my body couldn’t keep up with my mind otherwise. It’s glorious! I started walking in general – before I broke out into runs – because I needed a wakeup call after approaching the age my father was when he passed away suddenly, leaving two kids behind. Although I’ve always been slim, I’ve often thought I took advantage of that by not eating well and exercising. 2016 was the year I started to change that, and it’s sailing into 2017!

I exercise for stress relief. And what else eases worry is knowing we’re protected while we’re out and about.

I got everyone in my family a Road ID.

Road ID is a line of identification gear designed for families and people who participate in outdoor activities of any kind. It can be personalized with your name, emergency contact info, any important medical information – like allergies – and more. The idea behind it is that if you’re out and you have a medical emergency, you will be easily identifiable, with emergency contact info and medical info right on your hand, or shoe, or ankle, or even one for and on your pet!

The idea for Road ID was born in 1999 by the two co-owners – Mike and Edward Wimmer. Edward was training for his first marathon, and his father, Mike, was concerned for his well-being. One day, Edward was nearly face to face with a giant pickup truck on a long Saturday run. He was ok, but had a lot of “What If” questions. That’s when Road ID came to life – it’s far more than a business – it’s a mission to save lives. And that’s why I’m turning to Road ID’s for my whole family.

And it’s also one of my go-to gifts this holiday season.

Winter is a time to explore cold-weather activities – like cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, among many. I can’t help but get outside, year round. I even keep up my exercise regime when we’re in Florida in late January/early February.

Those are unfamiliar beaches for me, and I go it alone. I need my Road ID.

Road ID’s are a must-have when hitting the trails, the tracks, the woods, etc. These personalized bands give you confidence that if something should happen, people will know exactly who to contact, and if you have any life-threatening medical conditions. This is pertinent. Road ID is a durable, rugged, athletic, fashonable line of identification gear – “trusted by mom.” It was created with the concept that active people should wear ID as part of their gear – as common as putting on a seat belt in a car, or a bike helmet to go for a ride. Each year, over 450,000 of us are taken to the hospitals unconscious and without ID. Over 122,000 runners, walkers, and cyclists are hit by cars every year. Not only that, The National Safe Kids Campaign estimates that “every day, 39,000 children are injured seriously enough to require medical attention.”

Kids need ID too, as they rarely have it the way we do when they go for a bike ride or walk to school.

Now is the time of year to gift these personalized ID’s to friends and family members. It’s also the time of year to discover new ways to exercise outside. Will you hike on crunchy leaves or discover a snow activity? Will you walk the local track, or hit the trails with a furry friend? Will you play with your kids – engaging in tag, hide and seek, or playing ball like you did as a kid?

*Now through 11/18, take advantage of all Road ID products marked down to $15, $20 and $25 along with 20% off all gift cards, while supplies last!

You can’t put a price on peace of mind.
