I’m all for positive outlooks and beautiful sunrises, but it’s hard for me to get moving in the mornings. This time of year is so cold and we never know whether to put on the heat, or hold out for a few more weeks. And then if we do put on the heat, do we use the oil heat, or is it time to light up the pellet stove?? Generally, I wake up and Des hollers for waffles. He’ll also be missing one sock and one shoe, and Scarlet will trying to wear shorts to school. “But it’s cold!” I’ll say! “That’s ok,” she’ll reply. “I can just wear a winter coat.” With shorts. For me, mornings need an Orgain Organic Protein Almond Milk® boost.
I admit, like with most things, I had a late start to the smoothie craze. Drinkable vitamins and minerals in the morning? Sounds brilliant. Cassidy is always making really awesome smoothies in the morning, so I thought it would be fun to make HIM a smoothie for once. Since it’s fall and apples and pumpkins are in full bloom around these New England parts, I decided to make a Pumpkin Apple Protein Smoothie, using Orgain Organic Protein Almond Milk®. Fun fact about me – I’m less pumpkin spice obsessed than people think I am, and way more REAL pumpkin-obsessed. I LOVE actual pumpkin – from a pumpkin, from a can, whatever. In fact, I do love pumpkin spice coffee, but mostly when I make my own pumpkin syrup – using real pumpkin. I also love to put pumpkin in my oatmeal and lately, in my smoothies. It’s delicious, creamy and full of good, good things.

First, I gather the delicious ingredients. These can all be completely tailored to your taste buds and breakfast (or lunch/snack) needs. That’s the best part about smoothies – I feel like you can do no wrong if you make it to your taste.
3/4 cup of plain or Greek yogurt (You can use vanilla or maple as well, etc.)
1 apple, cut into chunks (I used a Gala apple and I DID peel it)
1/2 banana, sliced and chilled
1/2 cup of Orgain Organic Protein Almond Milk®
1/8 tsp of cinnamon and/or other “Pumpkin Pie Spice” found HERE.
5 or 6 ice cubes
The thickness was good for me because I have trouble with foods when I don’t know whether to eat or drink them. This is nice to sip with a straw. If your smoothie is too thick, add more of the almond milk. If, on the other hand, it’s too watery, you can add more fruit. The banana has an amazing consistency for thickening. You can also use more apple and pumpkin.

Orgain Organic Protein Almond Milk® is organic, with ten times the protein of other leading almond milks. In fact, I have a great coupon link for you to get $1.50 off of a container HERE.

Orgain’s lightly sweetened vanilla has less than half of the sugar of the leading brands’ sweetened vanilla almond milk. It has plant-based calcium and vitamin D, and is vegan, dairy free, gluten free, soy free and non-GMO.

Omg, this looks so yummy and just wish I could come share one with you now! Seriously, going to have to try to make soon and I can’t thank you enough for sharing here 😉
Cheers to that! And then we could go to the new Pie Bar together! And then look for moose?
Yes, yes, and yes to all of the above!!! 🙂
Oh, if only!
Oh this looks so good. Whats funny is that I can’t eat apples but I can drink apple juice so I know I can definitely drink this. I’m not sure if I can find that ingredient but I’m going to go look.
I had to come back and say thank you. I was just approving comments and noticed the pumpkin spice link. 🙂
Oh! You’re welcome! I loved it. Very thorough link!
My friend can’t eat apples but can have apple anything. Something about the raw apples gives her an allergy attack! So I get it! You can pretty much put any other fruit in there. Pears?
We love smoothies in our household and I will definitely give this one a try. Who can resist pumpkin anything this time of the year?
Right? I could seriously just eat pumpkin as it is. Well… I guess you’re supposed to cook it first? Maybe. Either way, I love it!
I would add it to my coffee instead of half and half, although I’m going to try your smoothie recipe too! I have tons of apples from the farmers market, and a can of organic pumpkin in my pantry. Yum!
Good idea!! Protein in your coffee. I wish I had thought of that!
We are out of apples, which is a crisis in this house. And Des needs to bring one into school tomorrow because they’re making pie. (adorable)
But then again, Scarlet is going on an apple picking field trip on Wednesday. So many apples in my world. And not even one to eat in front of me.
That looks really good! Another thing I can’t get in France, though (along with canned pumpkin and chocolate chips). 🙂
Nooooo!! Can I send some? Would that cost $1,000. A girl needs her canned pumpkin! Well I suppose you probably have pumpkins, right? So maybe you’re ok. Although chocolate chips!
I LOVE smoothies and this one looks and sounds absolutely delicious! I can’t wait to try it!
I’m a new convert to smoothies! I think they are absolutely brilliant, though!
I would certainly try this, as I do enjoy smoothies!
I hope you’ll love it! It pairs really nicely with OREOs, so I’ve heard. Just kidding! (not really)
I too was a little late on this craze, but really do like it! Love your decorated glass too! I have not tried this almond milk, but will have to check this out!
That glass is from my sister’s wedding! I only use it for extra special occasions, like smoothie making and photographing!
This almond milk is my favorite brand.
I hate getting up in the morning when it’s cold! This looks really yummy – I wouldn’t change a thing!
Cassidy even got me a heated towel rack because I can’t get out of the shower for all of fall and winter!
This sounds delicious. And that mason jar is adorable!!!
It’s from my sister’s wedding! It was the favor! I totally wanted to jazz up my photos. I LOVE it. And she got married in October last year so it was fitting.
That smoothie sounds delicious! I’ve just started drinking almond milk this year, so I will have to keep an eye out for Orgain Organic Protein Almond Milk 🙂
Orgain is a REALLY good brand. My foodie/fitness blogger friends swear by it. That’s how I know! Ha!
But also, it tastes really good!
I love smoothies – and have made a few fall inspired, but I have to say that spinach and strawberry is my favorite flavor combination! #client
Ohh, that sounds like something my husband would love! Funny because I do love most green vegetables, but not spinach. However, I do eat it in smoothies. So I feel all strong like Popeye.
Oh yum! Hands down, I would put strawberries and bananas in my smoothie. Well, if I could get my hands on acai, it’d probably be that, first. I love smoothies!
All three sound good! A Strawberry Banana Acai smoothie. I think I could be down with that.
I actually have all the ingredients to make this, so I’m going to try it today. Yum!
By the way, I made pumpkin pancakes with a pumpkin-yogurt spread on top. So good — love pumpkin anything this time of year, and with real pumpkin!
Oh hello, pumpkin pancakes with pumpkin-yogurt! Was it Noosa brand? Chobani? I’ve been seeing more and more. Or.. homemade??
I now know that you did make the smoothies (I have intel) and I’m so happy!
I’ve never tried almond milk, but this looks yummy! Have you seen The Carbonara Effect? It’s a hidden camera/magic TV show. He has an episode where he shows customers how to squeeze almonds to make their own almond milk. It’s hysterical!
I hadn’t seen it but thank you for the link! I watched it over breakfast and cracked up! He totally had that adorable woman fooled.
I love all things pumpkin! Seriously! And I have to say I am finding a lot more to really like about Almond milk! I seem to be using it quite a bit these days.I am going to go find this brand when I hit the store later! Thanks for sharing this nummy looking smoothie. Pinned!
I used it a lot when Des was a newborn because his stomach was so sensitive from those antibiotics at birth that he was presenting as a slight dairy intolerance. Luckily it wasn’t that case at all, but I grew to like almond and coconut milks!
Monday morning = freight train. Brilliant. And this smoothie looks amazing…you’re a smoothie rockstar!!
Who knew, right? It was my first go-around so maybe my next smoothie will be.. drumroll.. apple pie smoothie!
Inspired by you.
This looks like it’s calling my name and I just LOVE the Orgain products. My favorite, favorite, favorite protein powder is their plant-based vanilla (in you’re in need of a good one). 🙂
I’m so glad you love Orgain too! I’ll definitely check out the protein powders. I’ve been meaning to do so for awhile.
Ok, I am totally trying this! It sounds soooooo good.
I hope you love it! It really helps me in the mornings.
I love a good protein smoothie for breakfast. This one sounds just perfect for fall!
I wonder if I’ll still drink it all winter too! It’s becoming a habit for me to get going in the mornings.
I could totally do this! Thanks for this. I need to get a can of pumpkin as I’d never think to add it to my smoothie. Add some pumpkin spice to this and yummmmmmmy! Going to buy some today.
I confess it was my first smoothie ever! And my husband informed me I didn’t clean the blender correctly!
So basically, if I could do this, anyone can!
Pumpkin spice = so delicious.
Yum! That look so good! And so easy to make! I’ll have to try this after my next workout.
Ooh, that would be great post workout! Really great any time of day.
Looks really good to me!!! We don’t have an abundance of pumpkins here. Maybe I can find it’s nearest cousin. LOL
But do you have any pumpkins? Someone was telling me yesterday that they can’t get canned pumpkin where they live. Or almond milk!
I believe they are imported so they’re expensive. I haven’t see any pumpkins from where I live, that’s true! LOL. Maybe in other areas? We do have pumpkin spice lattes in cafes here. I’ve tried just once! Haha! 😉 I think we have almond milk from grocery stores.
*seen 😉
I’m happy you have pumpkin spice lattes! We have a wide range of them – from national chains to small mom and pop coffee shops. I love them all differently.
Now this sounds like a great Fall smoothie. I’m going to have to try using that Almond milk. It would probably come in handy for a bunch of other Fall recipes too.
I think it can be used for many smoothies! This is not a vegan recipe but could be altered as one. Or for any tastes and seasons. I love that.
Your Pumpkin Apple Smoothie sounds delicious and might be just the thing to get me moving on those days when it’s SO hard. Colder weather really makes it tough to get out of bed some days! lol
I hear you! I also have trouble getting out of the shower. I can’t stand cold!
We love almond milk and this is so delicious sounding. Colder weather makes me crave a drink like this.
Yes, me too! And this weird in-between season makes me want both warm and cold drinks.
That sounds like a perfect fall drink! And I love that adorable glass!
Thank you! It was actually a favor from my sister’s wedding last year and I thought it would be picture perfect for this post.
That does sound good. I like all of the flavors, perfect way to usher in cooler weather.
I agree. I really love October for all of these tastes, smells and colors!
Yum!! I don’t think you can go wrong with pumpkin anything 😉
Well, I take that back, pumpkin Doritos would be gross. Just the very mention of Doritos has me tasting Doritos, weird, I haven’t had Doritos in forever.
XOXO
And now, I am thinking about what Doritos taste like! And it’s been years for me!
I love smoothies! we have great fun here mixing different ingredients and creating new flavours. I’ve never tired almond milk though – sounds like it’s time for a new ingredient! I love coconut and mango and kiwi, so that might be a good place to start. Kale and green tea is a good mix too – I usually put some banana in with that and Greek yogurt.
I like coconut and coconut milk. Almond milk is cool. It goes really well with certain flavors. Yum.
Sounds delicious! I love smoothies, but for some reason they just don’t stick to my ribs as a breakfast. They are fantastic as an afternoon treat, though. Definitely going to have to try one with T some afternoon.
I hear you! I guess it depends on if I put yogurt in there too. Otherwise I need some eggs too!
Delish!!!
