Peppermint Hot Chocolate Recipe
I went on a Starbucks run with Lucy last week (Pup Cup!), and had to get a Peppermint Hot Chocolate. As good as it was, it’s hard for me to get out these days – at least as often as I used to get out. So I wanted to research how to make a yummy Homemade Peppermint Hot Chocolate. I’m trying to get more into the holiday spirit. I’m talking all the Santa Magic, music, decorations, cookies, and drinks – for the kids and for us too. I recently bought peppermint candies to crush. So this recipe is perfect for me. I can’t wait to have it again, sitting around the Christmas tree, sipping delicious hot drinks. This amazing drink is messy and fabulous and a crowd favorite.
Peppermint Hot Chocolate:
Prep Time : 5 minutes
Cook time: 5-6 minutes.
Serving: 1 large or 2 small mugs
What You Need:
1 cup whole milk
¼ cup heavy cream
2 tbsp brown sugar
¼ tsp peppermint extract
3 oz dark chocolate
Whipped cream
Candy canes
(Optional)
Almond flakes, maple syrup, marshmallow, and chocolate sauce
What You Do:
1 – Place the chocolate in a saucepan with the whole milk, heavy cream, and brown sugar – gently bring the mixture to a light simmer until chocolate has melted.
2 – Add peppermint extract, and stir occasionally until all ingredients are combined. Do not bring it to a boil.
3 – Pour the chocolate mixture into mugs and hang the candy cane on the edge.
4 – Serve with whipped cream on top, as well as crushed candy canes, chocolate sauce, or just simply on its own.
Whole milk can be replaced with any plant-based milk.
Peppermint extract is very powerful so use only a little unless a stronger peppermint taste is preferred.
