Patriotic Chocolate Covered Pretzels

I’m actually in shock that Memorial Day is this upcoming weekend.

These Patriotic Chocolate Covered Pretzels are perfect for Memorial Day, July 4th or any occasion at all! They're easy to make and a crowd favorite! #recipe

I’ve been in a bit of a blur and fog – with a crazy workload. Whenever photography, blogging, and data entry get busy at the same time, I always say it. “Something has to give.” Next time, I won’t take on so much. I won’t say “yes” to everything. I’ll pick and choose what matters most. And when it comes right down to it, they all matter for different reasons. It’s about making money, sure, but mostly about doing it on (mostly) my terms and with my schedule. I need more kid time in spring.

The problem is that you can’t predict the busy seasons. After all this time, I still can’t follow the cycles and rhythms. It’s because things change – as a global whole, and also with me. Maybe I did the right job at the right time for the right family, and that word-of-mouth spread. Maybe getting a few Facebook ad promotions at the right time – and spiraling my pageviews up in a direction I only once dreamed about – was the right dose of chemistry to add to this work volcano. It’s flowing.

Actually, it’s overflowing – with fresh, hot work.

I’m still working out details and finalizing paperwork, but there’s been a new opportunity in my life as well. It still falls under the blogging/writing/photography umbrella, but sometimes I have room for more – if it’s the RIGHT thing.

More on that soon!

(If swinging with chickens is wrong, I don’t wanna be right.)

In other news, summer is creeping closer too fast for my liking. This week, we have Des’ kindergarten orientation. I have more work than I can even breathe about, but this week should be the worst of it. I’ve been strangely emotional, closed off, and wide open at various times. There’s no sense in it. I want a third baby, and I don’t, and then I do. I’m trying to figure out if it’s just a natural reaction to having my youngest graduating from preschool soon. Also, Scarlet will be in 3rd grade.

Also, that’s so wrong! Also, chickens are so friendly! No one ever told me?!

(Please excuse my outfit but don’t excuse Des’ wariness of chickens on his mama’s lap)

We’ve been letting the chickens roam the yard on warm and sunny days, just to get them out of their incubated prisons! The older ones are almost ready to live in a coop! Don’t worry – they won’t ever be unsupervised in our yard. They are incredibly low on the food chain. They’re so low on the food chain that even I eat them, but don’t tell them. Ours are strictly for egg-laying and neck scratching. Swinging, being carried by a seven-year-old, eating ticks, and getting their necks scratched.

Who knew?!

That’s like.. super enjoyable, right? On the first day we let them out (Saturday), within five minutes, all six of them were cuddling against me like cats. It was so weird. I think I’m their mama! And speaking of mama duties, my kids LOVE anything chocolate-covered-pretzel-like. And so, I’m sharing this gorgeous and simple recipe. This is everything you need for the weekend. This, an emotional parade, and some chickens. Or maybe that’s just me. Either way, this one’s for you to try:

I have definitely noticed the way you’ve been cranking out posts like a MACHINE. Did you hire a house keeper? Because I can’t even imagine how you’re doing this. Maybe pass on your expertise. I am so stressed this week my face broke out. I also have something CRAZY that you would love going on, completely non blog related. I will get to tell you about it in a few weeks. It’s a trip. But then I have new writing opportunities, and mostly I just feel like a stress ball, and I’ve written nothing since Sunday, and today’s Thursday, so you know I’m like about to explode. Okay…TMI…I’m off to preschool end of year performance! 🙂
