Because honestly? The weekend just wasn’t that good. I’m always suspicious of weekends in April or May that aren’t sunny and warm. Or at least one or the other. I think there’s something really fishy about the weekend feeling like November. Gone were the breezy stroller walks, picnic blanket photo sessions with Scarlet, sitting on a chair with a book while Cassidy gardens. On the bright side, we did buy a nice futon today. I wasn’t sure “nice” and “futon” could be used in the same sentence but I think good things about this one. We’re in the process of turning our fairly empty den into a homey guest room. I love the guitars, Star Wars toys, and light sabers that currently inhabit that room but a cozy bed, nightstand and lamp corner won’t kill its style. This room will be multi-functional.
And that’s our weekend. We got a lot done but I didn’t necessarily enjoy it.
On the bright side, I’ve found myself calling Scarlet many interesting nicknames lately:
Doozle (derived from Doozers from Fraggle Rock. As in “What Do Doozers Do?)
Friend (I’ve always called her this)
Sweet Friend (this one is new and I think it’s self explanatory)
Gibbers (derived from a long history. We used to call Stormy Goo Goo because she acted like a baby one day. That turned into Gooey and eventually Goober. Goober turned into Gibber, Gibbers, Gargamel, Gozer, Gizzer, Griblet, Gozzers, Grendl, Gobbers, and more. This was all transferred onto Scarlet at birth)
If you asked Scarlet for a weekend update, she’d probably give you a wholehearted one. She worked extra hard on her language skills and embraced her German roots from the Klein side saying, “Nein” a lot. She said a full out, “Mom!” when she was hungry. Lots of “Da” and plenty of “Naynaynaynay.” She also said, “Nana” all weekend long which made my mom happy. She makes extremely funny grunting, groaning, laughing and murmuring noises while crawling or going from lying down to sitting. I realized today that I do the same thing while running and it made me smile. Her hair continues to look a little auburn in sunlight and the new hair growing in is straight and not curly or wavy. Still no teeth! They have got to be coming any day now. Scarlet spent a lot of time in public this weekend and she smiled at everyone she saw. I just smiled and nodded when people said, “Hey! She smiled at me.” It’s probably rude to say, “Umm…I’ve actually never met a single person she hasn’t smiled at.” I like to let people think they’re special. Scarlet also laughs now, not only when she thinks something is funny, but when we do. She laughs in imitation. She also waves, slaps her legs or the ground, and does many other things I’m too tired to remember when we do them to her. I think her biggest feat of the past week or so was to master going from lying down to sitting straight up in about two seconds or less. I’ll have to post a video soon.
One last note is that Scarlet spent time with her lover this weekend. We usually don’t allow it but it just made her so happy:
Just look at that face. Pure delight.
