It’s always interesting for me to post my pictures on Facebook and see which ones get the most comments. I’m definitely no authority on photography, or any art for that matter. I often look at films, paintings and photos with an “I like what I like” mentality. I’d probably be an absolute failure as a food critic. I can see it now: “Umm…I’m honored to be trying this $90 piece of sushi but I’d really like a rainbow sprinkled cookie instead.” And I can’t believe I ever even considered being a film critic: “Sure, THE HURT LOCKER looks grand and all but I’d so much rather watch HOT TUB TIME MACHINE.”
Anyway, I got off track as always. I tend to do that a lot. I think this blog is probably great for my soul. What I was trying to talk about is that my favorite pictures of Scarlet aren’t always the same as other people’s favorite pictures of Scarlet. And often people love photos that I don’t think are good AT ALL. For one, I know her every move in person so I know which pictures capture her “her-ness.” For another, like I said above, I like what I like. Not sure why.
I present to you yet another list! This Top Ten list thing is getting old already, huh? Well, how about fifteen? Maybe I’ll make it more of a once in awhile thing soon. But not yet! I present to you:
“My Top Fifteen Favorite Photos of Scarlet That I Took”: (since ten isn’t enough)
1.
It was really hard to start this list and I’ve got several pretty much tied for 1st place. I just always come back to this one…it was either the first or in the first set of pictures I took with a flash modifier. It’s just so her. That creamy skin. Those deep eyes. The seasonally-inappropriate wardrobe. I’m not big on the background but the subject is just dreamy.
2.
I just love this! First of all, it’s natural light which is pretty key for me. Second, her mouth is wide open letting flies in which is very typical photo-Scarlet. Third, PIGTAILS! It was the first time I realized her hair was long enough for Japanese anime style pigtails.
3.
I took this one morning during a learning to use my flash modifier photo shoot. They can be found in my December Scarlet smugmug album. The light and skin tone are strange because I hadn’t figured out how to secure my lightscoop onto my camera so it bounced up when I took the photo. There was some sun streaking in behind me as well. The effect is a little eerie and I’ve always loved this picture best.
4.
I don’t even know how this picture happened. They have the same stance and facial expression and it’s just so cosmic, I don’t even want to over think it. It never was one of my favorites until lots of people reacted to it on Facebook.
5.
This was my first favorite although I’ve come to take better pictures of her, in my opinion. Again – natural light makes all the difference sometimes.
6.
Again with the cosmic timing! She’s so full of great faces but she moves so fast it’s nearly impossible to capture even one. I got lucky again.
7.
My little flirt. This was part of my “Pebbles Flintstone” shoot after she got cute red bows from her Aunt Grace and Uncle Mitch.
8.
This is an old favorite. Even with all of her hair, she’s still such a hat baby.
9.
Classic Scarlet with a cute hat, deep blue(ish)/green(ish/gray(ish) eyes, a funny expression, and drool on her chin.
10.
EEEEEEEEEEE! I just love this one. Scarlet is only a few days old here. She was never one for sleeping on my chest because of the whole nursing thing. She could never just settle down and lean into me since I guess it would be like lying on a candy buffet that’s open 24/7 and trying to relax. So I don’t fault her for that. She actually does it more now. Back in the day, she slept on Daddy’s chest every day. I love his joy in this picture.
11.
Ahhh!! She’s so small. This is also when she’s days old. This looks like such a gift from God photo. Or maybe a gift from the stork. It’s like we opened our front door on a beautiful summer day and that’s what we found on our doorstep.
12.
This is an old school classic Scarlet expression. This photo captured an era that’s over and I’m very grateful for this lasting proof.
13.
She still sleeps adorably but this is so early back when we needed something like this to let us know how mellow our kid is. She just doesn’t have a care in the world here.
14.
So, so sweet and happy. Delicious.
15.
I wouldn’t even know how to fix the colors of this in digital editing software. And I don’t think I’d want to either.
Wow. That was really hard. I have about another 20 I considered using.
