It’s February! A fun, short month – and a great one for re-examining the New Year’s resolutions I made a month ago.

I’m more of a small goals person, but I do like to make the kinds of resolutions that I not only can achieve and maintain, but ones I’ll have fun working on as well. I really believe in the new year, new you, clean slate kind of thing. And our January month isn’t great for starting any habits we’d like to keep indefinitely! For one, we usually still have house guests during the first week of January. Then we all go back to school and work only to have a big Florida vacation two weeks later. Then we come back and aside from snow days, life is pretty much back on track until February break. And I feel good right now.

Hopeful.

One Month In: How My New Year’s Resolutions Are Going

1 – Learning to relax and practice self care better. Learn a better work/life balance. Check. I’m doing this! I’ve lightened my workload and made it more meaningful. I take nice, hot baths, read more books, and take the time to lie on the couch!

2 – Getting not just more sleep, but better sleep. This means earlier hours to bed, and earlier hours to rise. Check! It didn’t hurt that we went to Orlando and did a few 13 hour theme park days so the exhaustion just followed..

3 – Going for my annual exams, and more than annual dental cleanings. Check. In fact, I had my annual today! And my blood pressure was perfect, even though I was nervous, so it looks like my learning to relax is actually working!

4 – Traveling or making travel plans. Check! Just got back from a dream vacation, and I’m already thinking about the next one or ones. I’m thinking another Florida trip and maybe a summer adventure like Niagara Falls or Yellowstone.

5 – Having better relationships with loved ones. Check. It’s so important to be warm, open, and communicative with the ones you love. I need that one-on-one time with every member of my family, and of course that includes the pets and kids.

6 – Buying better, healthier, and more high quality products. Check. This is a fun one for me because I’ve discovered some great products from Walmart lately and I’m going to share them with you! I think they make an awesome difference.

7 – Having a better morning routine. Check. Cold and dark mornings are rough, but having a simple morning routine makes everything better. For me the early parts can be rushed with getting all the pets fed, the kids fed, and the kids sent to school, but then it gets lighter. I walk the kids to the bus stop, walk back, and then begin my routine. I know I’ve written here about loving Optimum Nutrition products. I’m loving the Gold Standard Whey for the new year. And for many reasons!

1 – It has 24g of protein – with whey protein isolate as the primary source – and so much of the carbs and fats are isolated out or removed

2 – It’s delicious and easy to mix with a glass and spoon – you just mix with cold water or your favorite beverage

3 – And it’s only 120 calories, with 1.5g of fat (or less), 2g of sugar (or less), and is gluten free!

8 – Reducing my sugar intake. Check. And I’ve discovered Splenda Naturals Stevia – which is a great tasting 100% natural stevia product. A Healthier Lifestyle Has Never Tasted So Sweet. It’s great tasting, with no aftertaste, and is in fact the best tasting Stevia! Nothing artificial and zero calories. My favorite way to use it is to make Strawberry Lemonade!

9. Better snacking on the go. Check. Enter Optimum Nutrition again! I love their Amino Energy because it’s great as a pick me up at any time of day. It’s an easy to mix powder with refreshing fruit flavors – and you simply mix into cold water and enjoy. And it contains caffeine only from natural sources for energy and focus support. Each serving is only 5 calories with 0 grams of sugar. And Protein Crisps are unique, high protein bars. They have a delicious crispy texture and each bar has 20g of protein! WOW!

10 – Having more people over! That’s how we started our new year, and that’s how we’ll finish it. All that stuff in between is crucial to mental health, I say. It’s really nice to entertain. We had a game day party on Sunday and picked up Michelob ULTRA Pure Gold. It’s made with organic grains for a pure and refreshing taste and has only 2.5 carbs and 85 calories. Plus it’s triple filtered and brewed free of artificial colors and flavors. We love this light lager with its superior golden taste!

Enjoy responsibly!

  1. It’s great to hear your New Years resolutions are on track! I didn’t really make New Years resolutions because I always find them hard to follow. Instead this year, I am trying to take each day at a time and just try to improve my overall self with food and savings

  2. Happy to hear that your resolutions are going well! Yes, cold dark mornings are the hardest to get going. I would have to say my favorite product has been my Keurig because it helps me save time getting that much needed coffee!

  3. You look so happy and healthy in that last picture! I was doing really well with my resolutions, until I went to Disneyland a few weeks ago and I haven’t gotten back on track! Thank you for the motivation!

  4. Look at you go! Maybe I need to re-evaluate in Feb, er… I mean actually make those goals. Splenda is seriously the best BTW. Love that stuff!
