I’ve done it four times over, and now with Sawyer turning six months in October, we’ll soon be moving him to a brand new room! These are awesome items if you’re expecting a baby, if you have a baby, and even if you have a toddler or an older kid. I mean, who doesn’t love awesome products to bathe with, play with, feel better with, and soothe with? I had so much fun opening this box and getting to know each brand. That’s what I do! I love to spend up to an hour with each brand and see which kid it will work the best for, and then I find the time to do that. And of course, many of these brands work perfectly with BOTH babies so we’ve had a lot of fun testing them all for you. Without further ado, here’s our list of some nursery essentials you’ll want/need!
Nursery Essentials for Your Baby:
1 – CeraVe:
I was excited to get CeraVe Baby Wash & Shampoo and CeraVe Baby Moisturizing Lotion because both were on my shopping list! It helps that both were developed with pediatric dermatologists. The CeraVe Baby Wash & Shampoo is a gentle wash. It foams into a rich lather to cleanse the skin and not disrupt Sawyer’s thin, delicate skin barrier. Also, it’s fragrance-free, soap-free, and tear-free. I’ve noticed that tear-free formulas really are tear-free because I have gotten them into my kids’ eyes! His skin is left feeling soft and soothed because of the three essential ceramides. I use lukewarm to warm water and gently massage it into his hair and skin, and then it’s rinse time and soft towel time! You can find out more about it by clicking here.
And CeraVe Baby Moisturizing Lotion has three essential ceramides, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and vitamin E to help hydrate skin. It’s great for everyday use and I use it after bath time because it’s non-greasy and lightweight and spreads on his fresh skin so easily. It’s fragrance and paraben-free with soothing, long-lasting, and moisturizing benefits. You can find out more about it by clicking here.
2 – Lamaze:
This is such a familiar brand to me because I remember having Lamaze toys for Scarlet when she was a baby! They have been making toys since 1993 with contrasting patterns, crinkly fabrics, and engaging faces. So we were really excited to get a PuffabooTM Elephant, a Wacky GiraffeTM, and a Soothing Heart PandaTM. The panda and elephant are all Sawyer, and Rider has adopted the giraffe! The Lamaze Puffaboo Elephant is perfect for my five-month-old! You can fold the crinkly ears over the eyes to play peek-a-boo. It also squeaks when you squeeze it! And it encourages sensory learning and bonding.
Then we have the Wacky Giraffe toy! This one isn’t fragile so baby can swing it around. It has a happy plush head and a soft and safe base, but can also swing around and make fun sounds. It has an off button as well! This one is really fun for Rider, although he was also sweet and gentle with it.
The Soothing Panda Toy is SO sweet! You absolutely will fall in love with it. It’s a calming plush panda and you can press the tummy to cycle through four bedtime melodies. Each one is accompanied by a red light and a vibration synced to the rhythm of a resting heartbeat. And if you press it a fifth time, you’ll hear the heartbeat too! The panda has a friendly face and unique patterns and textures. Sawyer loves it, and Rider tries to steal it.
3 – Philips Avent:
Philips Avent is a regular brand for us! We have the Philips Avent Anti-colic bottle with AirFree vent and the Philips Avent Soothie Snuggle. The bottle has so many wonderful things about it! It has a nipple with a shape that allows for secure latch, and the ribbed texture helps prevent nipple collapse, allowing for uninterrupted feeding. Baby can drink in an upright position because the nipple stays full even when the bottle is horizontal. Because of this, feeding time is more comfortable and this can reduce reflux and aid digestion. Plus, and I love these, there are few parts which makes for easy cleaning and assembly. It has an AirFree vent, compatible with all Anti-colic bottles. As you probably know, Philips Avent Anti-colic nipples are available in different flow rates to keep up with growth and development. You can find out more here.
As for the Philips Avent Soothie snuggle, it’s so helpful. And this is because the lightly weighted plush toy makes the soothie easy to find for both parents and baby, helping to put an end to the searching and hunting of pacifiers. It’s made of safe and durable materials and is actually the same pacifier used by healthcare professionals to help calm newborns in hospitals. You may recognize it! I did. That’s the only pacifier the NICU nurses used for baby Des. Having the plush toy is great because it’s soft on baby’s face. Also, the plush toy and soothie can separate for easy cleaning and sanitation. The plush toys are compatible with all the brand’s pacifiers! You can find out more by clicking here.
4 – Stonz:
Oh, these are such fun!! We have the Toddler Booties which are SO CUTE! They stay on, with 2 adjustable toggles to lock on legs and ankles. It’s so easy to do. They are all-weather wind-resistant with non-slip rubber soles. You can also use them with bootie liners in the extreme cold. It’s cool that they’re CPMA-certified with sturdy rubber soles and no heel, which is certified by the Canadian Podiatric Medical Association to help your toddler’s feet grow healthier. Then there are the Cruiser shoes – which fit narrow (Rider) and chunky (Sawyer) feet. They’re so easy to put on and take off with a wide opening and Velcro closure. They’re safe for early walkers as well! They are lightweight and the flexible sole bends at the 1/3 front of the foot help with balance and foot movement, while the reinforced heel keeps your little one stable. Breathable mesh upper and hi-poly insole keeps feet dry and breathing and not stinky! It’s the time of year to look for baby and toddler shoes and baby and toddler outerwear and they have it all!
5 – T.N. Dickinson’s Witch Hazel:
Witch Hazel is so crucial for postpartum and parenting care. I mean, it’s such a staple in our household. I actually bought it last month because of some blemish problems. T.N. Dickinson’s Witch Hazel Hemorrhoidal Pads with Aloe are a must-have for your hospital bag. These extra soft pads gently cool and cleanse hemorrhoidal and vaginal irritation and can be used daily if needed. They’re formulated with 100% Natural USP Witch Hazel, and dermatologist tested with no artificial fragrances or dyes. And T.N.
