People talk a lot about self care and what it looks like to you individually, and I’m at a point of life in which it’s hard to focus on myself. Which is pretty ironic because it’s a time I should be focusing on myself more than anything. And self care to me, is a number of things. It’s not just a bath, but it’s carving out regular time for a bath. And having good products, good music, good reading materials, and more. It’s not just eating a healthy meal, but taking the time and care to have healthy meals consistently. Of course, it’s taking regular care of my health and making sure I’m getting regular healthcare, dental care, haircuts, and more. I actually had a dental cleaning, a physical, and a haircut RIGHT before the baby came, so that was great self care right there!
My Postpartum Journey: Mind and Body Essentials:
1 – Tree Hut:
Do you know Tree Hut? They make deliciously delightful beauty products that are of exceptional quality with awesome ingredients. My Strawberry Sugar Scrub makes me so happy, because it gives me an effective exfoliation that removes dull, dry skin to reveal a soft, healthy-looking glow. And it smells like yummy Strawberry! It’s made with sugar, shea butter, BHA, strawberry, plus natural oils, like Evening Primrose, Avocado, Macadamia, Sweet Almond, Safflower, and Orange. All of their sugar scrubs are paraben free, vegan, sulfate free, alcohol free, contain no formaldehyde donors, and have a no-slip formula and long-lasting fragrance. Strawberry is such a special one because it contains skin-loving antioxidants and brightening vitamin C, while also adding juicy hydration. The BHA penetrates into pores to dissolve oil and dead skin cells.
Tone It Up:
I’m so happy to have found Tone It Up! Right before I got pregnant with Sawyer, I was in the best shape of my adulthood! And of course, that had to change with growing larger, watching my blood sugar, and not being able to exercise as much as I used to towards the end. Now that I’m not pregnant, I can eat more how I want to, and not so many high fat protein products, like cheeses and meats (although I love those as well). Tone It Up has a nutrition line made for women, by women, with simple and clean ingredients you can trust. They have the best-tasting and highest-quality protein powder, collagen, shakes, bars, snacks, and more, and they are dairy-free, gluten-free, and never made with sugar alcohols. The Snickerdoodle Cookies have 10g of protein and 170 calories per serving. Importantly, they are soft-baked with a sweet cinnamon flavor. YUM! And they are plant-based, non-gmo, gluten-free, and kosher. I can’t wait to try the chocolate chip flavor. Talk about awesome healthy snacks – with four to a box!
Then there are the Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars. They also have 10g of protein, and are 170 calories per serving. Plus they are plant-based, non-gmo, gluten-free, and kosher. They have a sweet and savory flavor which is 100% delicious. It’s a light and crispy bar made with plant-based pea protein. I love them for a morning or evening snack, and I’m really impressed with all these flavor options. You can find out more by clicking here.
3 – TENA:
TENA is an important brand, serving women in the postpartum and menopausal stages of life. TENA Intimates pads help meet any incontinence needs. They are dermatologically tested and 100% breathable to help protect your sensitive, intimate skin. I found out that in North America, 1 in 3 women suffer from urinary incontinence. Yet, it typically takes a woman 6-8 years before seeking help from a doctor. And 77% of female incontinence product users experience skin discomfort. It’s a big disservice to reach for other products, as using feminine care products or paper towel can impact intimate skin health. Those are not absorbent and breathable products, and can cause irritation. TENA products contain more absorbent materials like SAP (Super Absorbent Polymer) versus feminine care products – and SAP allows the products to absorb urine and lock it away to help keep skin dry. This absorbent material also helps control odor.
4 – Scarfade:
I really love this product, as I have an old scar from falling down porch stairs when I was a child. It’s between my eyebrows! This product is from the makers of another product we use – New Skin® Liquid Bandage. Now this is New Skin® Scar FadeTM, which is an easy, quick, and effective way to make scars less visible. This scar gel treatment is for both new and old scars. It is easily applied to all areas of the skin, including the face. You can use it on new and existing scars from surgery, injury, burns, acne, and stretch marks. The silicone gel provides greater efficacy vs “combo” ingredient products that exist today, and clinical results prove an 86% reduction in texture, 84% in color, and 68% in height of scars.
