My ten-year-old self would be so proud of what I created this week. To be honest, I’m still impressed with what I made for the kids! Always up for a challenge, I went to Walmart early this week to look for new Kraft Dips in brand new packaging.
I went out to Ware, MA alone – following a rainbow, no less – and went to perhaps the moosiest part of western Massachusetts – Quabbin Reservoir. There, I looked for some moose for a few minutes, drove for a bit longer, and found a Walmart right there in the wilderness! I was directed to the dairy section of the store and instantly found what I was looking for.

The new Kraft dips come in three flavors – French Onion Dip, Green Onion Dip and Bacon and Cheddar Dip. For my recipe – more on that to come – I bought the French Onion Dip. In fact, I nearly bought all the ones they had left!

Scarlet had a playdate yesterday with a friend who is moving away for a YEAR! We are very sad about that. The kids came over straight from camp and since they hadn’t had lunch, I wanted to make them a nutritious snack. When I was ten-years-old, I was obsessed with the Ninja Turtles. I was in a 4-H horse show and lived in a trailer with my mom at the fairgrounds for a few days. Every day I’d work so hard at the arcade to win a Ninja Turtles stuffed animal. I’d give the lady my dollar, and she was rooting for me too and would give me FIVE quarters for my dollar. I’d play skeeball day after day. Finally, on my last day there, I won my stuffed animal. I’m so glad Ninja Turtles are still in style because I’ll always have a soft spot for them.
– We had three stalks of organic broccoli from our co-op. I used one large head and chopped it into round pieces. I had to cut a lot of stalk off, but my kids like the “tree” parts better so I just ate the stalks myself with dip.
– I bought organic baby carrots and put them in three straight rows for the ninja turtle’s headpiece.
– I sliced cucumbers into the same size for the eyes, and sliced a black olive for the pupils.
– Then I used whole black olives (I bought pitted medium) for the mouth!
I know that Scarlet was impressed because she went to call her friend out to see it while I was making it. Then at dinnertime last night, both kids ate even more vegetables. They are often reluctant to do so, like many kids, but it’s always a victory to see them eat balanced meals. Also, a character vegetable platter is very easy to make. When I put out vegetables with the new Kraft dips, it was a lot easier for my kids to enjoy their vegetables. Ok. And for me too. I love fun platters!
Be sure to check out more delicious recipes at Kraft.com. Now tell me – which one are you going to make for your kids? And which Ninja Turtle is your favorite?
OK, that is seriously awesome and wish we could come over now more than ever to your house for a playdate! Will have to keep dreaming, but still loved your Ninja Turtle Veggie creation so much 😉
Aw! come over! I’ll even make an Olaf veggie platter for your two cuties!
Omg, you know if I could I would right now!!
I’m pretty sure it would be a tax write-off, because.. we’re colleagues. Technically.
So when’s our party?
So true and you say the word!!! 😉
Word.
First, I am addicted to French Onion dip, so I need to try this! Secondly, your Ninja Turtle is AWESOME! Way to go! I may have to steal that idea!
Thank you!! Steal away! I bet you could do Donatello with purple carrots. As for Raphael, red peppers? Now what about Leonardo, though…?
Yum, looks awesome!
Thanks! I’m trying to figure out how to do all four ninja turtles. That might be behind my skillset, though.
I love French Onion dip and your Ninja Turtle rocks!! All this fun could definitely get kids to scoop up some veggies!!
Thank you so much! I’m not usually very crafty but this was actually fun. It was fun that the kids were proud of me.
I don’t like onions but for some reason, I love onion dips and onion bagels. Who knows??
I love this recipe! That broccoli face is so cute!
Thanks! It was very fun. I ate the eyes first.
34 year-old me is impressed with what you created here! Plus, ten year-old me would have loved it too. TMNT & broccoli!! Yes, at ten I LOVED broccoli 😉
XOXO
Thanks, 34-year-old you! I’ve always loved broccoli, but I think raw broccoli can be tough for kids. I love this local salad bar that lightly steams it but it’s still cold and you can put it in salad. Mmmm…
I’m very texture and temp-sensitive too!
That sounds goood!! When I was pregnant with my first child I would crave broccoli, which I’m sure my husband wasn’t a fan of. 😀
XOXO
haha, why not?? Because he had to cook it for you a lot?
I will have to check it out because French Onion Dip is my favorite dip. I have started making my own, so I’m interested in seeing their version.
I was just telling someone above that I can’t stand onions but I like onion dips and onion bagels. You just never know.
That was quite a creation! My grand babies would of loved that! Too cool. : )
Thanks! It was quite the strange endeavor.
You are soooo cute. 🙂 I love that I can tell you enjoyed making this probably as much as the kids enjoyed looking at it and eating it. Once I made a mashed potato Olaf for Roman because he just refused to eat potato in any form. His eyes lit up, then he looked at me and said, “I know he’s potato Olaf, so I’m not going to eat him.” I think that’s the last time I got creative like that.
Why, thank you!
And yes, I enjoyed this a lot. I even ate both eyes with pleasure!
The mashed potato Olaf story is hilarious! And yes, that would happen here.
I love love love this! I wonder if Tucker would eat vegetables if I made an awesome face like that!! I think I’m going to try and YUM to french onion dip!! YUM YUM!! And um, I’ll have to ask my son which TMNT is my favorite. 😉
haha, mine is “the purple one”. Which I suppose I still could make because there are purple carrots in this world, but are there purple baby carrots??? I do not know.
How adorable! I’d eat it too!
Oh good! And I did! Delicious.
I am impressed! That is wicked awesome! Why have I not made something that cool in my life that would make the kids eat more veggies? Plus how delicious is that french onion dip! One of my favorite flavors ever!! Guess I will be picking some of that up the next time I hit Walmart! can’t promise I will be able to make a cool character plate, but …. 🙂
haha, maybe if you have a LOT of free time. Although the ninja turtle didn’t take long. I was going to make Elmo but no one in my family will eat baby tomatoes, including me!
HA! I love it! That’s the fanciest party platter I’ve ever seen! This would totally make the kiddos eat more broccoli!
French onion dip is my FAVOURITE! I could eat tubs of that stuff!
Thanks for sharing! Wishing you a lovely weekend.
xoxo
French onion dip is awesome! And I don’t even like onions in any other capacity.
Have a great weekend!!
My younger son loves TMNT, and even my toddler asks if she can watch “turtles”. It’s hit or miss with those two when it comes to veggies, so a tray like this with Kraft French Onion dip might help encourage them to eat more veggies! Thanks for sharing this great idea! #client
Thank you so much!
I thought about using purple carrots for the purple turtle, but I couldn’t find baby carrots. Maybe next time I’ll cut them into sticks! The sky is the limit.
Oh, I pinned michelangelo. That is awesome. Unfortunately, French Onion dip is on my short list of foods I’m not allowed to buy……because there are just a very few foods that I have ZERO self-control with, and I eat them until I puke or just really want to: french onion dip and cupcakes are the two items….don’t worry…..not together….one day I’m just going to do it. I’m going to eat this stuff and just deal with the fact that I can’t stop…
Oh man – so you really love it, I guess!?
I can eat cookies until I get a stomachache. Not a puking stomachache, but still, not pleasant.
So I get it.
That is really cute! I am very impressed, Tamara. I want to eat up all those vegetables on that platter. 😉
Thank you!
And other than the olives, they are all local and organic. You can’t beat that!
That is really so cute!! And I’m sure that eaten with a dip, those vegetables would even be more appealing! I love broccoli surprisingly because I don’t eat a lot of veggies. I don’t eat carrots though. LOL. Good job to you! 😉 I might as well do it for Reiko! Hehe
Broccoli is my favorite vegetable! And carrots! And those are like the only two Scarlet will eat, although she thinks that corn on the cob is vegetable. I suppose it is? I have no idea.
Wow!!! That is impressive. I’ve never tried to make any veggie designs, but I should try it out. I’m always trying to encourage my son to try more fruits and veggies.
Thanks!
Honestly I had never thought of it before but it was so easy and fun!
cute platter – I bet the kids ate it all up with the dip 🙂
I am not sure on the ninja turtles names myself but – I know my daughter wants that for a back pack this year and she is almost 16! lol
Wow! I love that they’re still in style in high school.
And yes, more dip than veggies sometimes..mostly.
That’s SOOO cute!! Makes me NOT want to eat any of it. Lol 🙂 I have no words and no thoughts. I will go hide until some appear. It’s nice though, usually they don’t stop. I will continue this joyous thought-less weekend. 🙂 Ta-Ta Tam Tam -Iva
Wow, how many days of no words and no thoughts? I think I really need to try that tactic!
Ummm I think I went a good week with no words/thoughts. So I tried this “cornmeal-less cornbread” recipe.. So sad, so not good. I don’t have cornmeal and was looking for a work around. It failed. I am saddened. Now I must buy cornmeal and make it properly because – ain’t nobody got time for nasty cornbread?! There’s nothing sadder than throwing away a failed cooking/baking attempt – I feel like a sad trumpet tune needs to be played in the background as that happens. I’ve been stuck on this post for weeks.. I think I need to let it go for a while or maybe just restructure it. I think that’s what’s making me lose my sanity and grip on reality.. It’s like a failed piece staring at me, I won’t have it!
That’s pretty cool – and it looks easy to do:)!
I was surprised at how easy it was! Usually.. I’m not so domestic in the kitchen.
lol! Presentation is everything. Now I do have vegetarian friends that say they don’t eat anything with a face, but I think you will win them over 🙂
Yes, I’d even eat a turtle that looks like this!! Presentation is so important with many kids.. and their weird parents.
Rapheal is my favorite Ninja Turtle, for sure! And I love this, Tamara! We’re having a cookout tonight, maybe I’ll copy your idea!;-)
Ooh, I hope you do!
My favorite is actually Donatello but I couldn’t find purple baby carrots. Maybe I’ll try that next time!
Hahahaha… really cute. And I knew exactly what it was. That will make the kids want to eat their veggies.
That makes me happy! I thought maybe no one would know!
The turtle eyes are a bit… creepy. He’s staring right through me and I suddenly feel uncomfortable. You’ll be hearing from my lawyer.
I ate those eyes! Will you call off your lawyer now?
They were delicious.
Such a cute veggie platter! I might just have to make one of these for a play date sometime soon. Thanks for the idea!
Yes, it’s fun! I bet you could come up with a way to use all four turtles too.
That is super cute. My boys would love that.
Thanks! It was really easy to make.
How cute. I love me some ninja turtles and omg love onion dip.
It’s funny you said that too. Onion dip is a favorite of many! I HATE onions in all capacities, except for onion dip. I guess it has a magic pull.
This is so cute even my son would eat it! I love it when moms get creative with veggies! And who doesn’t like Kraft dip!
It’s not often that I’m creative with veggies, so I appreciate that! Usually my tactic is to slather butter or cheese on broccoli! Or hummus with carrots.
Aww!! The turtle is totally cute 🙂 I wish my mom was that creative when I was a kid.
My mom was/is an artist, but never did stuff like this! I confess I don’t do it often, but it made the experience special.
This looks so good! I’m all for a good Dip .. that French Onion Dip sure looks good
French Onion seems to be the favorite! I can’t wait to try the other two flavors too.
Your veggie tray is so cool. Love eating veggies with dip.
Me too. I’m a big fan of dips and fondues. I just love that!
Seriously that is the MOST awesome veggie tray I have ever seen!!!!! LOVE IT!!!!
Thank you!! It was so easy!!
That is the cutest veggie tray, and the dip sounds really yummy!
Thanks! And the dip is awesome. I otherwise don’t like onion anything, unless it’s dip.
I love this dip. It was always the kind we begged mom for when we were kids. It goes perfectly with veggies and chips. Yum Yum.
Oh I feel the same way! And my mom would say, “Stop eating more dip than veggies!” Oops.
That is really cute! My boys love TMNT, this would be a great way to get them to eat their veggies.
I am so happy TMNT is still in style! I still love them.
You are one of my new favorite sites to follow. First off the fact that you have time to make this for your kids makes me feel less than as a parent, but totally supportive in the fact that you did it yourself! When I was first reading I thought the grocery store was your fridge and I was going to demote myself as a mother!
Ok, now you are cracking me up.
Honestly, this took less time to make than a peanut butter and jelly sandwich! Mainly because my daughter asks for the bread to be toasted first.
I’m cracking up because I’m SO not domestic. At all. I have no time for stuff like this. Ever. I wanted to take the opportunity from Kraft to do this, but I had no idea I’d achieve it!
Also, my fridge is mostly bare. Don’t tell anyone!
What a fun post with food – can’t get over your Ninja Turtle Veggie creation and I know my son would have eaten more vegies if I had been that creative! Always enjoy French onion dip 🙂
It’s rare for me to get creative with food, so I had to run with it!
French onion dip is a classic, isn’t it.
My son always used to watch the Ninja Turtles. This is cute! Anything to make healthy snacking more fun!
Exactly! And I confess that I rather love my food cut into shapes.
Oh yeah, that one’s pinned. How adorably cute!! I like onion dip too.
Thanks!
I totally agree about onion dip.
Hahahah love this – would you mind if I borrowed this idea for a get together? Planning to do that for sure. Cute!
Oh, of course not! Please use it!
That is awesome! My son loves broccoli and TMNT, so he would really enjoy this!
Aw! I love both myself.
I’ve never tried french onion dip with veggies – I always go for it with chips! how adorable! Lucky you can get your kids to eat raw veggies
Oh wow – I never tried it with chips! I think I need to try that!!
I didn’t even know that Kraft had dips! I will have to go try it out.
I believe they have for awhile, but this is definitely new packaging!
I saw this on my timeline earlier and was like “genius”! Love it so much
Thanks! It was honestly so easy. I’m just trying to figure out how to make it in the other turtles! Purple carrots.. red peppers.. blue… what???
Oh that is brilliant! My kids love ninja turtles so that would be awesome! My kids love dipping their veg and stuff so this would be perfect!
Thanks so much! It was really easy to make.
What a brilliant idea and what a great way to encourage your ninja turtle fan to eat his salad. 🙂
haha, yes! He certainly is my ninja turtle.
So cute! My kids would love it!!
Aw! My kids really did! But more in appearance than eating it, but Scarlet surprised us all by eating the carrots. Who knew?
Oh my that turtle is so creative. So many fun things you can do out of veggies! I also love the dip! Yum!
Thank you! I don’t know how I pulled it off, to be honest. It was easier than I thought!
Love the Ninja turtle! Almost too cute to eat! But I would still eat it LOL!
ha! I hear you. I ate the eyes myself.
These veggie trays are just the cutest. I think you are so creative.
My son is such a TMNT fan that I’m sure he would eat that right up! We too love French Onion dip in our house.
This is perfect! And Michelangelo is my favorite TMNT! I love it… what a great way to get kids to eat their veggies! Pinning it now!
