I’m writing and posting this week’s Ladies Only Blog Share Link Party from a public library in Truro. Cape Cod. My “vacation.” After a rainy day exploring the wonderful town of Wellfleet, Des fell asleep in the car after a rousing walk across a bridge to a crabby salt marsh followed by a reward of ice cream with rainbow sprinkles. As I carried his sleeping, heavy body into his portable crib in the beach house, I realized that this was a perfect opportunity to escape to the library and give Scarlet some time alone with her grandmother while Des naps.
And so, here I am. It’s been cool and overcast for most of our trip. Today started with rain in Wellfleet but the sun is shining over Provincetown. We leave for home tomorrow and we haven’t been to the beach yet. As Scarlet said, “What is the point of Cape Cod without the beach?” The answer is that there are lots of things.
Lots of points. And we will get here later today.
And I thought, “What is the point of vacation without the vacation?” I haven’t rested much. I’m still doing work because to be honest, in a cool, dark house at night, I rather enjoy reading your blogs. I’m chasing around two kids. I have help, but it’s not always the same when you’re a mama. And I realized today that it’s still a trip. It’s still a journey. We have explored and we have laughed (a lot) and we haven’t rested on warm sandy shores, but rainy crabby marshes are ok too. So now I’m taking my “me” time, as Des sleeps and as Scarlet is watched by her grandmother. And this is where I want to be. And later, where I want to be is on a sandy shore.
And tomorrow, where I want to be is home.
And without further introduction, welcome to the Ladies Only Blog Share Link Party: No Kids Allowed. Thanks for hosting while vacationing Hun! I linked up! Enjoy The rest of your stay!
I thought of you when we decided on the theme. I hoped you'd appreciate it!
I know the feeling all too well Tamara and seriously even when I tell myself I am turning off, I still find myself working lately. Sounds like we are very similar yet again on something else!! Hoping you enjoyed the rest of your vacation and safe home today!! 🙂
Nothing surprises me anymore, Janine!! We're twins. Face it.
You didn't even get to relax a little?
Oh I did! It was just different. I was always thinking about the kids and their comfort levels. Such is the life of traveling with kid. It's something I got used to.
Oh I read blogs on vacation too! I can't help myself!! Hope you are having fun!!
It's very relaxing to me! Better than mindless TV after everyone has gone to bed. It's mindful! Mindful blog reading!
Oh, how fun! I didn't know you were going to be one of the hosts today! I don't have a "me" story to share…I should work on that! I hope you are having a wonderful vacation and were able to get to the beach!
We finally did get to the beach on the last day – photos to come. Thanks for visiting!
{Melinda} I'm convinced that the only real vacations (stress-free, relaxing) are without kiddos. The rest are just trips. 😉
I fully support that! My little one is just too young for me to get too far away from. Maybe when he walks and talks, I'll feel comfortable leaving him with family.
You're supposed to be relaxing on vacation. What is the point of a vacation without the vacation? 🙂 Enjoy your time off. Thanks for hosting. My laptop is down with all my photos so I'm unable to do my real posts as well but so looking forward to having you really back. Have more much fun with the family.
haha, relax? With two kids and no husband? Not possible. I had a GREAT time but yes, I was concerned about the kids' eating, sleeping, pooping, enjoying type stuff.
I wish the weather had been better for you. I love visited there a few years ago and went on whale watch! Such fun!
Oh, sounds awesome! I went on a whale watch only on the west coast. It was smooth and sunny but I got the sunburn of a lifetime.
That just happened to me – I went to visit my family – and I still have to make lunches, dinner, dishes, etc. I guess it really wasn't a vacation, but a visit.
I love that picture of your daughter 🙂
Right! Enjoyable in its own way, but I can't just shut off my parenting!
Do we EVER stop working as moms? Just because the environment changes doesn't mean that we still don't have to be ON at all times. I think we never really get a break until someone else has the kids and even then, you still can't turn off the mommy buzz. Anywho, thanks for hosting this link up! Enjoy your holiday weekend!
No, we never do. Even on a vacation without them, I’d miss them and wonder about them. Such is my life!
Thanks for the party! I am all linked up! Have a wonderful weekend 🙂
So glad you linked up! Have a wonderful holiday weekend.
Ashley and I always say, a trip with the kids is like a "work trip" for us because it really isn't a true vacation. We've got to do all the planning and packing…and the lion's share of the parenting work the entire time. This is why we savor our girls' long weekend trip so much!!
Can't wait to get to reading the link part posts!!–Lisa
I need one of those! Sign me up for the next one, ok?
Yes, I did all of the packing although Scarlet packed her own backpack of toys. I suppose I did all of the "practical packing."
Oh, I want to join in!!! Dagnabit, I don't have a post. Fun link up! I'll definitely join in next time.
Cool! Next time will probably be fall-themed.
Need to read more and I will go back on this…I love the idea!
Thanks for sharing…and have fun on your vacation, this looks like a hard work post for a mom who is blogging while on vacation!
Thank you! I didn't have a lot of time before I was kicked off the library computer. Oh well – I got my point across!
I hope you get a chance to relax a little bit!
Maybe just a bit. It's almost more relaxing to be home right now and my husband is watching both kids while I get caught up here.
I'm always amazed by how exhausting vacations turnout to be 🙂
haha, don't I know it? I don't know how my parents managed with taking five kids on two week vacations. They must have needed vacations from their vacations!
Real vacations need to be kid-free if there is any hope of relaxing. On the other hand, great memories with your kids are created on these vacations – sun or no sun:(( And I think it would be totally cool to hang out on vacation (or any other time!) together! Hope you made it home and feel a teeny bit more relaxed! xo
We would have a blast together, Leah! I agree. Your recent posts look so memorable. And maybe you’re not sleeping on a beach for a week straight, but what you’re doing is so valuable.
Only a blogger would take a vacation and still blog on the vacation right? Love it! I really have been enjoying reading blogs more and more as well. Everyone inspires me and I have just enjoyed reading and writing again through it. You sound like it doesn’t take too much to make you happy. That’s great. I feel the same has happened to me ever since I became a wife and mom. So glad I had something relevant to link up this time. Thanks for taking the time to host and post something great like always while on your vacation!
Thank you, Brittnei! So glad you joined up. I think I'm a blogging addict. I wonder if I'll ever take a "true vacation" from the kids and/or blogging. Probably not for awhile..
Thanks for hosting #LOBS, Tamara! I've followed you via Bloglovin'. Looking forward to reading more of your blog xx
Thank you so much, Angela! Found you there as well.
Well, I would gladly trade you our relentless, AZ sunny skies for some of that overcast weather. I know what you mean about traveling with kids; it's never a TRUE break when you have little ones. But a nice, cool, dark house while reading thru blogs sounds relaxing 🙂 I'm glad you got some moments here and there (I did the same on my vacation too).
Those AZ sunny skies sound so nice about now. We haven't had sunshine in awhile. I think it was sunny here while I was on my cloudy trip, and now it's been cloudy since I got back.
I just finished a little vacation, as well. I admit that I had a hard time reading blogs and keeping up with social media. I have some catching up to do this week! 🙂
It's been a bit slower this weekend which has made my catch up easier! And of course, reading blogs while on vacation. I only did it at night at least!
Have a great Labor Day!
You too, Blond Duck! We still have over six hours of it..
