And that could mean a lot of things – new roller coasters, new cities, summer reading challenges, new games, new skills, and of course, new foods. I remember my first time eating kiwi! I was just a little kid and my sister was already a fan. It was the green kind and it was in a fruit salad that my grandmother had made. She had made a rainbow of colors in there and kiwi was new to me. I loved the flavor – then new to me – and I loved that my kids tried it for the first time this summer vacation! They were instant fans, so we got creative with this new favorite.
3 Fun Ways to Add More Kiwi To Your Diet:
Make a smoothie!
This is truly one of our favorite ways to eat kiwi. Take 2 Zespri SunGold Kiwifruits, 1 cup frozen strawberries, 1 container of yogurt (plain, vanilla, or strawberry), 1/2 cup milk, and 2 Tbsp honey. Peel and cut the kiwi into chunks, and put all ingredients into a blender, and blend until smooth. If needed, use the Pulse setting for the strawberries. And serve with straws!
Add kiwifruit to your fruit crisp!
We love a good fruit crisp! We picked a bunch of strawberries for Father’s Day and made a great crisp! Here’s what you do:
What You Need:
5 cups strawberries, diced
1 Tbsp lemon juice
3 Tbsp granulated sugar
3 Tbsp flour
1 cup flour
¾ cup brown sugar
10 Tbsp unsalted butter, chilled and cut into cubes
¾ cup rolled oats
Kiwifruit for topping
What You Do:
1 – First, preheat oven to 350 degrees
2 – Then, grease a 12-inch skillet or 9 inch baking dish
3 – Mix together strawberries, lemon juice, sugar, and the 3 Tbsp flour in a bowl
4 – Then combine 1 cup flour, brown sugar, and butter in a food processor and process until the mixture is crumbly
5 – Next, stir in the oats
6 – Spoon your strawberry mixture into your skillet or baking dish and crumble the crisp (flour, sugar, butter) mixture on top
7 – Bake for 40-45 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the berry mixture bubbles
8 – Serve with sliced kiwifruit on top and ice cream or whipped topping
Eat your Zespri SunGold Kiwifruit straight from the fruit itself!
Yes, this can be done! And it’s super kid-friendly and delicious too. Simply cut the fruit in half and serve with a spoon they can scoop. It’s easy for kids, and a fun snack for them too.
