It’s All Right, ‘Cause I’m Saved By The Bell.

So I had my first flat tire ever tonight.

This is strange to say, but it could not have happened in a better way. I was about a mile from home and with my mom in the car, so I was able to get the car up the driveway and we weren’t stranded on the side of the road with Des and Athena. Shivering. Thanks to my mom, AAA, and some good ice cream that got us into the flat tire mess in the first place, it’s ok.

I was also saved by the bell for today’s Ask Away Friday because Old School Blogging this month features ten questions. What are the chances?? So it’s ok that I forgot to schedule a partner. Elaine has my back today. Thank you, Elaine and #OSBlog!

Thank you to my mom, Elaine, AAA and cookie dough ice cream with a burnt sugar base. (it has more jazz than vanilla)

1. If you could be on a reality show which one would you choose?

I was asked a similar question by Mrs AOK and I said I’d never want to be on a reality show, but if it was maybe a one time thing, I’d make an exception! I’d love to be on an HGTV show in which I’m getting some great new additions to my house! Yes, that sounds lovely. I’d love to be on that “Buying Alaska” show. I wouldn’t really want to live in Alaska, but I would love to house hunt there just for the trip and to see moose! My answers are mostly always: 1. Moose. 2. Tim Curry. 3. Cookies.

2. Name one thing you have saved from your childhood?

I’m taking inspiration from Elaine again, but I think there’s only one answer to this. Donald Duck. I asked for him for my second birthday. He’s always been there for me. He’s been puked on, left behind, apple juice covered, and dropped in the dirt. He’s also been my grief counselor, my companion, and my constant. Thank you, Donald Duck, for always being there.

And now that I’ve made myself cry, it’s on to a new question:

3. If your life had a theme song what would it be?

Well right now, it’s the theme song to “Saved by the Bell.” Mostly it’s Tom Petty’s “Learning To Fly.” Since I included a video clip of that song in my Wednesday post and I don’t want to repeat it, here’s another one I’ve always felt was mine:

I have a tale to tell
Sometimes it gets so hard to hide it well
I was not ready for the fall
Too blind to see the writing on the wall
A man can tell a thousand lies
I’ve learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell
The secret I have learned, ’till then
It will burn inside of me
I know where beauty lives
I’ve seen it once, I know the warm she gives
The light that you could never see
It shines inside, you can’t take that from me
A man can tell a thousand lies
I’ve learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell
The secret I have learned, ’till then
It will burn inside of me
The truth is never far behind
You kept it hidden well
If I live to tell
The secret I knew then
Will I ever have the chance again
If I ran away, I’d never have the strength
To go very far

4. Where is your happy place?

Actually, that’s a whole post if you want to read it. Link HERE. It’s a quick read!

5. What is one thing about your home that you and your spouse disagree on?

You mean, like how I think it needs three bathrooms and a hot tub on the lawn, and he thinks those things require money, and not just charm, smiles and sprinkles? Well I wouldn’t call that a disagreement. I don’t know. He doesn’t mind my photos on the walls. And I don’t mind his life-sized Han Solo in the dining room, so at least we have that in common. I can’t think of anything. We disagree on a lot of things, but we also want a lot of the same things in our house. And yes, money would help.

6. What is your favorite fruit?

I think strawberries add luxury to everything. Fresh picked berries are magical. Apples are welcome, even when I’m sick.

7. Bowtie or regular tie?

Should I say it? Yes, I should say it. “Bowties are cool.” — Doctor Who.

8. Mexican or Italian (food, not men)?

Mexican. Men, that is. As for food, do I really have to choose? I couldn’t possibly choose! I asked my family. My mom said Italian. Scarlet said Mexican. Cassidy said it’s a coin flip. So I’m going to go ahead and agree with all of them.

9. Where do you want to go on Summer vacation?

Alaska. Ok my answers are always: 1. Moose. 2. Tim Curry. 3. Cookies. 4. Alaska. I’ll take California’s wine country as a second choice!

10. What are your go-to shoes in your closet?

Funny story about that. I used to wear heels like the best of them. I was a premier DSW shopper. Now I live in New England and it’s winter and I have two kids. Today at the convenience store, the lady behind the counter told me that my snow boots are sexy. Do you think she was putting me on? In the winter, it’s snow boots. In the summer, it’s sleek sandals. For the rest of the year, I tend to like slouchy brown boots or tall black boots over skinny jeans. Much sexier than big ole snow boots.

  1. So, glad you all are OK and seriously though I hope it was good ice cream at the very least that got you in that predicament to begin with. Hey, I am just saying πŸ˜‰

    1. Good point. It was cookie dough. And they make their cookie dough without a vanilla base. Rather, it’s this burnt sugar flavor. Which sounds weird but it’s so freaking amazing.

    1. I think I still have another week or maybe two of data entry, can you believe it? I appreciate how supportive you have been through! It actually helps me to think that when I’m doing it. Another thing that helps me plow through it is to think about the fat check I will get for doing it. I know that sounds horrible, but I’m only human.

  2. Glad your flat tire was close to home, if it had to be. Car troubles are just NOT fun though, like ever.

Your Donald Duck is so awesome. As is your house. πŸ™‚

    Thanks for linking up!!

  3. Bowties!!! Speaking of Dr. Who, there’s a mini museum here up until today for all things Dr Who. And I can’t go because, work. Sheesh. Anyways, I sure think boots are sexy!!

  4. Good post and love your answers, Tamara! A couple of years ago my (step) mailed me my teddy bear from childhood. I had not seen him in 35 years. It was a total surprise. VERY emotional when I opened that box up. I’m so glad your mom has AAA. I’ve had it since I was 16 years old and for the small annual fee it’s paid for itself 1,000 times over. I love these questions! I’m still pondering how I would answer a couple of them. Oh, you forgot on Question 9 – visit Reno πŸ™‚

    1. That is so emotional! Cassidy was given his childhood stuffed dog in the last few years and Scarlet has taken a liking to it. I actually have visited Reno! About six or seven years ago.

  5. Great questions and answers. I’m happy to hear that everything turned out OK today. Today was a good day for me. No anxiety and lots of smiles. Stayed home with Madison today and played. Spent it playing with playdoh and heard “mommy I need your help” after being told, “I can do it by myself”.I finally felt wanted. Here’s to a fantastic weekend.

    1. That makes me so happy! I love days like that, with no anxiety. I think sometimes they happen but I don’t even realize it until the end.
Two and three-year-olds can be tough on self-esteem. And then it turns around again.

  6. First flat tire ever? wow that’s actually pretty lucky. I can think back the past 20 yrs and know I’ve had at least 4 or more.

  7. Great minds, I love question #1. πŸ™‚
    Your house is beautiful.
I love strawberries too. I think you would enjoy the strawberry festival here, I believe it’s next month. πŸ˜‰
#8 πŸ™‚ There’s a huge struggle to answer that question for some members of my family.
I talked about shoes this week on my blog. I too use to be more adventurous with my shoes once upon a time.
Wishing you an easy relaxing weekend, you work warrior you!

    1. I definitely can’t wait to read your shoe post. I’m about two or three days behind in blog reading, but I always catch up.
I want to go to the strawberry festival!

  8. Snow boots are sexy but I’m ready to put them in the VERY BACK of the closet!! I also cannot choose between Mexican food and Italian, even though I’m Italian. And, maybe you’ve answered this before, but why does that awesome Donald Duck have a shirt that says Tammy I Love You?

    1. I don’t know where he got that shirt! I think maybe my grandparents gave it to me to give to my stuffed animals. And as you know, Tammy was my nickname until adulthood.

  9. Boo to flat tires! I’ve gotten several, but have always been in a good place to have a flat tire and have never been stranded. We once spent our morning at Walmart on a vacation waiting for our tire to get patched!

I love that picture of Scarlet by that sign! We have a picture of my daughter outside a restaurant with her name!

    1. That’s so cool! The country inn was actually owned by a friend of ours, and she’s part of the reason we named Scarlet, although the spelling is different. She was on the older side, about 80, but she passed away in a car accident a few years ago. I still can’t get over that.

  10. Strawberries. Yum! Love them too.

Ugh, I got a flat tire like 2 years ago. I panicked. I called Tom and he was like, “Calm down, it’s only a flat tire!” But it was snowing and cold and I wasn’t sure what to do. He managed to fix it. I should probably figure out how to do it so I don’t panic as much next time…

  11. I’ve given up on heels. I used to wear them nearly every day, even when working with kindergarteners. (I was towering over them!) It’s looking a very real possibility that I will be going to Alaska in August to visit a friend and see bears catch salmon. (And maybe even spot a moose or two.)

    1. That is so awesome. I hope your possibility becomes real. I think it could probably happen for me, earlier than I think. I just want it to be a family trip and I want my kids to remember it.

  12. Strawberries – and raspberries! My husband and I argue about pictures and photos on the wall all the time! He it meticulous about the hanging process, so it’s an “ordeal” for him. And I am certain that you can make snow boots look sexy.

    1. I hear you. Snowboots could be sexy.
That’s funny about the photos on the wall! We have a pretty easy process with it, but not with everything else.

  13. Oh man, flat tires suck! So glad it all turned out okay. I’ve been in a few, and thankfully not too many that left me stranded on the freeway (what would we do without cell phones?!). I love that Donald Duck. It reminds me of my Bedtime Care Bear that I still SLEEP with every night lol. Had it since I was 5 years old!

    1. That’s so cute that you still sleep with it! What does your husband think?
I try to imagine life before cell phones. Did we have to flag down other drivers?

  14. I couldn’t help it either. I had to quote The Doctor because bowties *are* cool.
Glad your flat tire turned out OK. I got one last year on the way to drop my oldest off at school. I was stressed, but my youngest was thrilled. He loves an adventure.

  15. Oh I am glad you are having some good adventures with your Mom this week. Ice cream does make things so much better (and cookies and cupcakes do too). Mexican and Italian food are my faves too although I love many cuisines. Your Donald Duck looks well-loved and I love that you still have him. Have a wonderful weekend and hope you have a lot of fun with your Mom!

    1. Thank you! Sadly, she had to leave yesterday but we had a wonderful three days of fun.
It’s true that I like more than just Mexican and Italian, and I couldn’t even choose between those two.

  16. I’m glad your flat tire incident wasn’t a huge headache. I’ve had two flat tires. One was when I was in high school and one was a blow out on the interstate (that one was pretty scary). Both times my dad came to the rescue. That’s what dads are for!

  17. Ha! I posted OSB today, too. I added a question so I could link it up with FTSF. My husband says I have more problems with tires than anyone he knows. I have never had a blowout while driving, but I have gotten I think 3 flats since we’ve been married, plus a few patches before things went completely flat. I have bad luck with tires.

  18. I have a Winnie the Pooh that is so old and beat up it is barely recognizable. And my mom saved my crib sheets! And my middle school P.E. uniform. And her own P.E. uniform. I may have to do this link up next week!

  19. Well go girl with your sexy snow boots! So when I saw the picture of Des having ice cream for dinner that was before the flat tire? What a day! So are good strawberries a luxury in your neck of the woods? I guess i take them for granted because they are pretty much tasty and reasonably priced year ’round. We live mere minutes from strawberry farms. We went on the a field trip once and they convinced us that no snakes hide in strawberry vines but I still don’t go pick them myself because it looks snaky.

    1. That was definitely before the flat tire! My mom kept saying that the ice cream better be good because it’s the reason we got a flat tire!
Good strawberries are very rampant around here, and we even grow them in our own yard, but the season is short. It’s usually only a month in June. Although we have these weird strawberry plants that also grow in the fall.

  20. That’s amazing that you’ve never had a flat tire! I love AAA; they’ve rescued me so many times. (How do some people with cars not have it?!)
I love that picture of baby Scarlet. Those curls! Those thighs! (Oh, my hormones!)
Completely agree with you on the berries! And I bet you are so thankful for your mom right now, she sounds awesome.

    1. We always had a family plan for AAA. Five kids and two parents. It cost next to nothing and it was so helpful!
The hormones are strong when looking at baby pictures!

  21. It’s great that you were close to home and your mom was with you. This summer my car quit on me within walking distance of our house. It was great that it happened that way because my husband was with me (usually if we are in my car it is just me and the kids) and we were able to walk home and drive back to talk to the tow driver.

    1. Always good when it happens like that! And that’s if it has to happen. Car trouble seems inevitable, though. I’ve definitely had my share!

  22. We should really take those compliments from convenience store clerks seriously! They see a lot of people everyday and some are probably not so sexy. I do believe money always helps around the house, although there is a certain flare to the broken towel rack and bucket under the shower we have at our house instead of actually fixing them… Happy Friday the 13th!

    1. I think they probably see a lot of grumpy and snow-covered people in these parts. I’ll definitely take that compliment seriously!
We definitely have a sink that can’t give cold water. Instead of fixing it, it’s just part of the charm.

  23. I’m going to be posting a OSB post too. I didn’t get a partner this week. I’ve been stranded more times than I can count, thankfully all ended safely. Most of them, I had some wonderful stranger help me fix my tire, before I could get help from AAA. Man, now that I think about it, California roads REALLY suck!

  24. Boo to the flat – glad you weren’t alone. The first time I had a flat tire I spent about 1 hour trying to take off the tire – only I wasn’t doing the lug things right and didn’t make any progress. Thankfully my landlord took pity on my and helped me out. I learned a lesson that day and now can change a tire with the best of them!!!

  25. OMG! I used to sing Live to Tell in my room ALL DAY LONG! That is one of my top 10 fav songs of all time! And Alaska? hello that’s my DrEAM! I even applied to be a news anchor there once when I thought we couldn’t have kids. I desperately want to do a cruise there. And strawberries are my all time #1 flavor and fruit…I think it’s kismet! Oh and I JUST pulled out my stuffed animal from childhood to show my kids….it’s like we are on the same wavelength today….

    1. Wow, we are twins today! I write about Alaska a lot. It’s my total bucket list. Number one item. I guess I drag my feet on it because I always think we have time. I want the youngest to be old enough to remember it.
And that is my favorite Madonna song, and also one of my top 10 songs of all time. I always thought it was written for me!

  26. I just realized I haven’t hung onto anything cuddly or sweet from my childhood. Uh oh! I would love to go to Alaska too πŸ™‚ but a beach would be amazing right now!

    1. I fear that my parents have a whole basement full of my old crap! I have to clear it out one day.
Des told his daycare teacher that I was not at home working, but that I was at the beach. Oh if only!

  27. I had to laugh at your title because I actually watched an episode of Saved By The Bell with Katarina tonight. Ahh. Memories.

That picture of Baby Des is the best! He is so cute.

  28. Awww, I love Live To Tell! Great pick for a theme song! You have Donald, I have Galloper, they are always there for us. By the way, strawberries are my favorite and yes, bowties are cool.

  29. Mexican. Men that is… BWAHAHAHA!!!!! Yeah, I caught it! And, well- THIS: “Ok my answers are always: 1. Moose. 2. Tim Curry. 3. Cookies. 4. Alaska.” Kinda.

But indeed you deserve three bathrooms. (Cassidy!) Bow tie on Des? Priceless.

And now I will be singing myself to sleep with Live to Tell… Thankyouverymuch

    1. It was totally an Easter egg there for the catching! And also, I have dated more Mexican men than Italian men.
I hope it was a sweet lullaby before bed!

  30. I hate flat tires – glad you were in a safe spot. My husband refuses to teach me how to change one because he wants me to call for help – but what if I’m stuck somewhere with no help? We’ve gone around about it for years. Anyway, so glad you did Old School Blogging because I’ve been waiting for the next one. Love these random questions so I might do it on Monday. Please tell me you’ve seen Northern Exposure? One of my favorite shows of all time, and it made me want to live in Alaska (even though the show wasn’t filmed there). Have a great weekend!

    1. I love Northern Exposure!! I have many of the seasons on DVD but I never finished it. Boo to that!
I wonder why he won’t teach you the tire changing?

  31. Moose, Tim Curry, Cookies and Alaska are good answers to just about anything. Except that you should replace Alaska with Yukon, because Canada πŸ™‚
    And that Donald Duck? LOVE!

    1. Yukon works for me! Are there moose? Then I’m sold.
I do need to get passports for the kids, considering that we’re only about three hours from the Canadian border. Doh!

  32. Mexican AND Italian and strawberries. So sorry that you had the scary flat but also so glad it happened the best way that it could and that you were safe.

  33. I’ve slept more this past weekend than I have the entire year. This has been the worst woman time ever. I am in pain and dying. Either way, strawberries are awesome but so are fresh pineapples and fresh mango – like truly ripe mango not the hard kind that is cut prematurely and is a bit sour to the taste; but purely ripe where it is sweet and juicy with every bite. The outside has to be a range of green, yellow, and red πŸ™‚ nom nom nom. OK back to here. Mexican versus Italian is impossible – I’d go by mood but I can eat either one any day of the week: why? both have carbs and cheese. Lol take care lovley Tam Tam -Iva

    1. Oh dear!! No good about the woman time. How were you when pregnant? I never know if there’s a correlation at all. My sister used to have horrible times but yoga helped her. Who knew?
You’re making me so hungry with this talk of fruit and Mexican food!!

      1. I’ve heard it is correlated but I tolerated my pregnancy pretty well. I didn’t want the epidural but because I had preeclampsia they insisted.. It saved my arse in the end so whatevs. Yoga seems to help with a TON of health and pain ailments. Need to get back to doing that in the AM before work since it helps my back.. it’s just too cold to get out of bed!!! LOL Now I want food πŸ™ I always want food. πŸ™‚

  34. I love your Donald Duck, especially his t-shirt. He remind me of the snoopy that I still have from childhood – totally love worn, missing eyes, grey instead of white. So glad you were close to home with the flat!

    1. It amazes me how long they last, no matter what these stuffed animals go through. It makes me stress less about my kids’ stuffed animals. They’ll last forever!

  35. I enjoyed your answers to this meme. Speaking of Saved By the Bell, did you catch the recent spoof on Jimmy Kimmel? So funny.

Strawberries are definitely an upgrade. Love the picture.

    1. I saw it!! It was surprising because at first I didn’t realize it was new. I thought he somehow superimposed himself in the show. Everyone looked great! Mr. Belding didn’t so much, though.

  36. I was about to say “I’ve never had a flat tire before!” But I thought that would jinx me so I’m not saying it…just typing it. I’m glad you are all ok!

  37. Love love love ‘Live to Tell’ love it! Did I mention I love that song? Also yes to strawberries, and I would have to say Italian on the men because I love hearing spoken Italian. I love ties in any form, I am so sad that I got into the workforce as a serious professional after the tie thing had been dissolved. Stupid corporate casual.

    1. Angela, you beautiful woman! You just tipped this post over to 100 comments. I know we have talked about OCD with comments before.
I think choosing between Italian and Mexican food is hard, as well as Mexican and Italian men. I’m not picky!

  38. I’d say your little Dr. Who carries that bow tie off beautifully and that smile. I’m always envious of boots and beautiful sweaters. There just isn’t much need for them down here… πŸ™‚ And I love your red coat. Gorgeous!

  39. Ha! Bow ties are cool! I saw a girl in the elevator with a Doctor Who shirt and I was so excited I almost superman in an elevatored my coat so she could see mine. But I played it cool…

  40. Apples have so much significance in your life! When you can’t eat anything- apples are on the menu. LOL At the mexican men comment. Love bowties! And boots all the way. I don’t even touch snow but still- they’re the most practical for chasing children lol
