It was Music Theory class – senior year of high school. Christa had been in my school since middle school, but we had never crossed paths, and in a high school of over 1,200 students it was easy to blend in. I always wondered if we might be friends, but it had never happened previously. Our township had four or five elementary schools that went up to 5th grade and then spit everyone together in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. She came to Roxbury sometime then – when I was surely going through my own adolescent catastrophes. I’m so glad I didn’t meet her until high school because I was a different person by then.
And then that day came. We were in the same class. She came and sat right next to me and opened with a joke or a touching story. We were always on the same wavelength from that day forward. Our teacher loved us! We could both hear music – but for different reasons. She had a more rigorous musical background. Mine was sparse and random at best, but I could hear things in emotions and rhythms. That’s the only reason I aced that class – even though I had never committed to vocal or instrument lessons. And that’s where and how we started – powerfully and meaningfully. We’ll never lose touch.
We went to college together for one year, and then she moved up to New England. In fact, it was her years of adventures living in Massachusetts (Cambridge) that made me more inspired to move here. I left New Jersey for San Francisco, and then came to Northampton, MA. Christa now lives in New York (so unfair that we’re passing ships!) but we both have families with summer houses in Cape Cod. And we’re just a train or car ride away. I know I can call her with anything, and she’s better about calling me with everything. I struggle to ask for help, but I know she’d drop everything for me. We have visits.
And that is a huge reason I love Rockland Trust so much. It’s about relationships. They put so much emphasis in making each of their relationships meaningful – that’s what they’re built on. It’s deep and longterm. That reminds me of my friendship with Christa! Rockland Trust is about community. When you look for a bank, it’s like looking for a friendship. You want it to be great, and long lasting. You want it to weather the storms – and go through life’s ups and downs with you. It’s that feeling in your heart you get when you see someone nearly as familiar as your own family. That’s powerful!
Rockland Trust is a community bank found in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. They offer a wide range of banking, investment and insurance services to businesses and individuals. No matter how small or large, old or new, they are committed to serving and meeting all of their customer’s needs. It’s important to find a bank that values relationships.
Rockland Trust is about relationships and trust and time together. That’s one of the many reasons it reminds me of Christa! And also because when she lives in New England, she lived both in MA and RI – both places that have Rockland Trust.
