I’m No April Fool!

Amaze your friends and fool your kids with these quite tasty (not really) chicken pot pies. They look like the real thing but they're made of yummy candy and pudding!

One time, only a few weeks after we got Athena (three years ago), Cassidy called me from the driveway on April 1st and said, “Go get your camera. I am surprising the kids with a kitten.” My exact response was, “Are you freaking kidding me??” Dutifully, I went to retrieve the camera and I met him at the front door. “April Fools!” He crowed! I was so relieved!

Of course the joke was on me because we really did get kittens not terribly long after that.

That said, have you noticed that this blog has multiple personalities lately? I assure you it’s all parts of me, so maybe I’m the one with multiple personalities. I’ve been finding my way with things that make me happy and sharing most of it with you!

What can you expect here? A little of the same, and a little different. Or is it a lot? I’ll still write sponsored posts for products and services I love, because that’s what I went to journalism school for and I LOOOOVE it. I’ll still post the total ME posts – Currently posts, brain drains, Finish the Sentence Friday, life updates, and travel diaries. That will probably still happen once a week – and most likely on Fridays. Lately, I’ve been adding personal craft, DIY, recipe and seasonal posts because it’s making me so happy! Wait until you see the spring/Easter posts I’m going to share! This is how I grew up – total holiday loving!

And I fear I can’t stop it. Can’t Stop the Feeling!

So I suppose nothing is being taken away, but a new category has been added. Also, due to the advice of the wisest blog guru I know, I also want to add non-sponsored lifestyle posts more often (or ever), so please tell me what you want to read about and I’ll do it with gusto. And a shoutout. What do you want to see more of in the Tamara (Like) Camera blog? Is it photography advice? Or, is it mental health stuff? What if it’s chocolate? Is it Doctor Who? Is it moose? Believe me – I can do more moose loving. In the warmer weather, I’m planning trips with 5:00am wake-ups, hip-waders, and a rented zoom lens.

If it’s wildlife photography you’re seeking? I’m your girl.

(Remember this guy – George? I remember having readers help me “name” him.)

Basically, I want to do things better. I’m sloppy and NOT diligent by nature, so this is one of those funny scenarios in which your career challenges you – maybe more than you’re ready to accept. “They” say we do choose our spouses to challenge our innermost natures, so perhaps that’s how we choose our careers. The good ones, anyway. What am I working on? Better graphics. Better photos of inanimate objects, because I’ve worked my whole life on photography of living things instead.

Don’t expect miracles, at least not overnight. I want to be better. I’m a floater. Like in high school! In this world, I can “hang” with the more serious and scholarly writers, because that’s my background and it’s the heart and soul of me. I’ve been published in a few books, and I have big dreams for more. I also love the commercial stuff, the photography stuff, the foodie stuff. I’m about different stuff. I want new stuff, but I never want to forget ancient and important parts of me.

And if it doesn’t work? I’ll try something else. I adore you!

Here is a recipe I can’t resist sharing. Imagine expecting a chicken pot pie and getting a mouthful of candy! Imagine expecting candy, and getting a mouthful of chicken pot pie! These are delicious – with pudding, graham cracker crust, and fruit chews.

  1. I am loving this and I’m loving your update about the new feature! YAY! I would love to see a bit of everything. As a mom you can share some of your tips you’ve gathered over the years, as a photographer you can share some of those too. The possibilities are endless! Now as for this april fools chicken pot pie, I just know I can totally fool them with this and may just make it. 🙂

  2. OK, these are so cute and definitely unique. Totally loving the vibe around here, as well lately. Oh and by the way, AnnMarie totally got me with commenting first LOL!! 🙂

    1. Thank you! Those are probably my favorite, but it’s nice to have some that take less time to keep it spread out. I appreciate that feedback!!

  3. I wish I was a prolific writer like you. I let life get in the way, which is a good thing sometimes, but sometimes it’s just laziness. I like a variety – that’s how I am too! It’s authentic, I think, because your blog is about you.

I can’t get over how much that pudding pie looks like chicken pot pie – that is hysterical!

  4. This is so cute! I am totally pinning this. My kids must have this dish. Probably even tonight… I am not even going to let Jen’s Guy in on the gag!

  5. Well, your blog is already amazing and inspiring. Not sure how you could make it any better. But I understand the desire to keep working on things. I have so much to do! My husband’s birthday is on April 1st – maybe I’ll make these for him!

    1. Thank you! I’m always trying to figure things out with design, and ads or no ads, and how much sponsored content, and blah blah blah. It’s maddening! It’s because I care, though!

  6. I was definitely TRICKED with this recipe, Tamara!

And you KNOW I always love your inspiring essays… those speak to me, and that is my favorite part of your blog. BUT I’m sure SO many readers enjoy all your food posts, photo posts, and sponsored posts too! I think variety is rather wonderful. It’s YOU. Just like you said. We are not just one sided, one genre, one niche- as much as its suggested we narrow our focus… If we are authentic with our voice- it will always be something valuable for all- no matter what we share. <3

    1. Thanks, Chris! They’re my favorite too. That’s what my blog is built on. I want everything to be perfect for my readers, clients, myself, etc. and it’s a bit maddening. I just have to be myself as always. Like you!!

  7. This is AWESOME. I DO want to play this joke on my kids.
See, you are the only blogging person I know who admits to being naturally less structured. So THANK YOU bc sometimes the world can be a lonely place when everyone else is touting their schedules, plans, and regularity, and I’m over here like la la la la la la la.

I’m loving holidays more and more this past year. Maybe it’s b/c we are finally done with diapers and midnight feeding so we can actually begin to think past survival..

    1. Oh yeah. SO unstructured! I question so many things – ads or no ads. Sponsored content more of the time, or organic more of the time. Money. Not money. Schedules. Plans. I have no idea what I’m doing. I admit that!
