I Can See Clearly Now..

The rain is gone. The sun didn’t come out, that day, but the son did. On his due date.

I can see clearly now

Here’s what I posted on Facebook on October 13th, 2020:

“I Know You Rider. My Midnight Rider.

Welcome, Rider Benjamin Bowman. Rider for The Grateful Dead. Benjamin for my grandfather and great-grandfather.

Cassidy calls him Rider Ben for Ben Kenobi.

Hardest thing I’ve ever done. 9 pound baby ALL NATURAL! Not sure I recommend that.. but I feel like a superhero.

We had a 43 song birth mix and he was born to Annie Lennox, “A Thousand Beautiful Things.”

new baby

I have so much to tell you! And I don’t know how it will come to be – will it be one part, two parts, or three? We shall see what happens next Friday. The stories! The photos! The glamour! The adult diapers! It’s all there, but for now, we’re home and I have a snuggly baby waking up.

On Fridays, we get an email and video from Des’ school principal (I can’t believe it’s not Scarlet’s principal anymore – sob) and as you know, they did a dance party to “I’m Still Standing” after the first week. And then the next week was, “I Can See Clearly Now” and that’s yet again the musical inspiration for this blog post title. And it fits the whole thing. It always seems to work that way.

I can see clearly now

“I can see clearly now the rain is gone
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind
It’s gonna be a bright (bright)
Bright (bright) sunshiny day
It’s gonna be a bright (bright)
Bright (bright) sunshiny day

Oh, yes I can make it now the pain is gone
All of the bad feelings have disappeared
Here is that rainbow I’ve been praying for
It’s gonna be a bright (bright)
Bright (bright) sunshiny day

Look all around, there’s nothing but blue skies
Look straight ahead, there’s nothing but blue skies

I can see clearly now the rain is gone
I can see all obstacles in my way

Here is that rainbow I’ve been praying for
It’s gonna be a bright (bright)
Bright (bright) sunshiny day”

  1. I hope my excitement is coming through in my comments Tamara. I want to congratulate you and Cassidy on the birth of your beautiful baby boy Rider Benjamin, and a baby brother for Scarlet and Des. I’m excited for all of you! Isn’t it special that Rider rode in right on time, and so very special that Rider was born to “A Thousand Beautiful Things.” In a Songfacts interview Annie Lennox gave a list of different things in which to find beauty and she mentioned, “The warm breath of a child.” “That is the meaning of life.” That Golden Oldie by Johnny Nash is the perfect choice for your inspirational song. I remember that 1972 #1 hit record very well. It’s far reaching popularity, and how it was so frequently requested and dedicated on the radio airwaves. It remains a classic song to this day. I’m already anxious to see more baby pictures and smiling faces next Friday!

    1. I may have to share our entire 43 song birth playlist just to get your take! I also love your musical facts and tidbits.

    1. Yay, love! It will be along, rambling one, I’m sure! I did Scarlet’s birth story in one long jumble and broke Des’ up into three, luckily.

  3. CONGRATULATIONS!!! Welcome to the world, Rider Benjamin. So thankful that you made it through without too much difficulty. I could NO WAY have delivered naturally. You are a superwoman. Wishing you sleep and can’t wait to hear more and see more photos:)

    1. Thank you so much! Still recovering here. Sleep.. well it will get here one day again, right? It has to. I still prefer having a newborn sleep to third trimester sleep. That was AWFUL.

  4. I was so incredibly excited when I saw your post on Instagram. He is absolutely perfection, so beautiful. I hope you all are doing well and settling into the new parameters of your family.

  6. I love the name! I am so happy everything went well and that you and baby are healthy and recovering. I always think it takes 6 months after each baby to get into any kind of a normal routine. So give yourself some time. Lots of love to you!
