I wrote this post four years ago, only a few weeks after my sister’s wedding. So this week we celebrate my sister’s four year anniversary and also remember the time Cassidy took the words “I Am Groot” way too seriously. And it was awesome.
Sometimes I have tunnel vision and it’s nothing to brag about. When there’s something big on the horizon, it’s hard to focus on smaller things before or after that big thing. Say for example, it’s senior prom. Say you have a major physics project due the Monday after prom weekend, but you can’t even think about it until after the prom is over and you’re back home and your sister’s boyfriend makes your project for you, and it doesn’t even work, but it’s so special and homemade that your teacher gives you an “A” on it and you don’t even have to take your physics final exam. You get to sit out in the hallway with a book and look in at all of the much smarter (at physics) kids and watch them take the final exam you’ll never take.
Cassidy may call it luck. I may call it that too, but also skill because I’m surrounded by wonderful and creative people and hey, I did take care of Des’ costume, and my own, and I did take a lot of photos and I did write this post, and I helped Cassidy in and out of that costume 17,000 times and I broke a few sweats too. I’m not calling myself completely useless at Halloween this year, but I was not the star to shine. And that was ok. My tunnel vision only allowed for my sister’s wedding, and a ton of photo shoots before and after that. Meanwhile while I was in my fog, Cassidy was dreaming and planning, only SIX DAYS BEFORE HALLOWEEN. And then dreaming and planning turned into working. And sharing that wisdom.
I Am Groot.

Since I never met a Top Ten list I didn’t like, here’s my “Top Ten Things I Loved About Halloween 2014.” And quite like the wedding post, I started writing this on Halloween night. It actually wrote itself. So now I present it to you. There’s Halloween. There’s Halloween as a parent. And there’s Halloween as a parent in a really cool town. How about Halloween as a parent in a really cool town, with Groot, Rocket and Superman. You never know, do you? I didn’t drop the ball after all.
1 – In the morning, Des and I went to Scarlet’s school to watch the kindergarten classes make a parade around the entire school in costume. We had some time to kill after the parade and before the half-day dismissal and I had a wonderful hang out and heart-to-heart on the playground with Scarlet’s friend’s mom. Bonus is that Des fell asleep in the swing!

2 – Walking around all day with the best costume contest winner, which got him a prize ($$$). I was just darn proud. I’d tell anyone who listened to me, “That’s MY husband. He made that costume himself!”

3 – Walking around town and seeing friends, and clients, and people who are both friends AND clients!
4 – Going to River Valley Market to get some late-night snacks. In costume, of course.

5 – The car needed gas and it’s always fun to get gas on Halloween because you’re getting gas next to a clown, a witch, and oh yeah – the woman in front of you is the secretary at Scarlet’s school! You have to love our small city.
6 – Walking in the parade with Scarlet holding onto my stroller with one hand, and holding hands with two friends from preschool with the other hand. They were all telling each other Halloween riddles and cracking each other up.
7 – Realizing Cassidy’s artistic potential as reflected back from the faces of hundreds of people. Heck, thousands.

8 – We stopped by a friend’s party after trick-or-treating. There was a giant, amazing, handmade, remote (or radio?)-controlled Frankenstein on their lawn! It could move and talk and had a microphone where someone inside could look outside and talk to kids walking by. It was AMAZING. I was in a cloud of Groot pride and care, but this deserves its own post. I wish I had photos but I didn’t have my camera at that point, because.. Groot, Des, stroller, freezing, candy bags, etc. My friend’s dad made it when he was only 13 and it was passed down to my friend’s family. Seriously, amazing.
9 – Scarlet told me I was the prettiest Snow White she had ever seen! The fairest of them all?

10 – I stole a piece of candy from Des’ bucket at 1:00am. It was a Milky Way. I hadn’t had one in years!
*Bonus that he really only said “I am Groot” when people tried to talk to him!
I’m sure I have an honorable mention for every single person I saw out there that night. I know I spout a lot about the online blogging love (which is real and fierce!), but my in-person people are pretty spectacular too.

I took a MIlky Way from the bowl at the elections today and thought “Wow, I have not had one of these in years and it is SO good!” When you are a super taster, it’s fun to remember an old treat and when you are a holiday lover, well, you just about filled your happy cup, right?
More than just about! And I was surprised at how good a Milky Way candy bar could be after all these years.
I got to tell you this was a pretty damn good Halloween here, too. I wasn’t sure it would be, but still it actually went off pretty much without a hitch and by the end of the day the girls, Kevin and even I were so very tired, but good tired from all the fun had in the one day itself. I loved your recap and totally don’t think you dropped the ball and by the way dy I agree with Scarlet, “You are the prettiest Snow White I have ever seen, too!” 😉
Thank you so much! I saw a Snow White in Disney World who was much prettier than me. Younger too!
So glad you had a damn good Halloween. And I had to chuckle at that description.
It really was that damn good, lol! But seriously, just glad we got past Halloween with no illnesses, but unfortunately, Kevin had to pick Emma up from school this morning, because she was coughing so hard she threw up on the bus. So, I will be at the doctor’s office today for sure now. Never fails at this time of the year, I suppose.
Oh no!! Not really related but Scarlet was telling me today that she’s afraid to buy lunch ever again because she spilled her peaches all over herself once! And was embarrassed! And doesn’t want to talk more about it. Sob!
Hopefully Emma is not embarrassed! Poor cutie.
Aww, poor Scarlet and just wanted to give her some extra hugs reading that. I asked Emma if she was embarrassed and told me she wasn’t, but still worry in the back of my head. Kevin picked her up as he is home today and Nurse Rachett (the mom nicknamed her this) told him we shouldn’t have sent her in today. But she loves school and was hell bent on going, had no fever and just coughing. Being it was a half day went against my better judgement and sent her. So now of course my mom guilt was on high after the nurse made that comment.
I have no patience for mean school nurses!
Stomach viruses are very contagious so I can see them get upset about those, but that’s not what this is. Hope she feels better!
Aww, thanks Tamara and just very bad cold with lots of conjestion in her nose that apparently from all the coughing made her throw up according to the doctor. So agree wring reation from the nurse big time.
I always enjoy y’alls comments!! Janine – that nurse was wrong and you shouldn’t feel guilty. I worked in an elementary school for 5 years and can’t even tell you how many kids threw up from coughing so hard – totally different from a contagious stomach bug!!! Hope Emma is feeling better – coughing less!!!
Aww, thank you for saying that Kim and I admit I was going to keep her home today because we got home late from Frozen on Ice, but she was fighting me, because she actually loves school just that much. So no fever and just a bad cough, I opted to send her since it was a half day. But felt awful when I got the call, but still know this nurse is known for not so stelkar bedside manner and yet somehow still didn’t expect her reaction.
I had no idea it is happened a lot! But I do remember my old boss threw up from coughing from bronchitis! And he was a grown-up!
Yeah, totally ridiculous. Nurses get touchy I guess.
Yup, I guess they do and I see her point of view, but still I think I would have spoken differently to the parent if it were me (but that is just me).
Well that’s why you are a very nice person!
Aww thank you and you so are, too 😉
Confession – Halloween and I, we’re not friends. I can’t handle anything scary and never got into the trick-or-treating (no Halloween in Germany when I grew up, the candy industry has just gotten wind of that in the last few years…) and my kids are too old to go now anyway. BUT – that costume Cassidy made is AMAZING. I am totally in awe (as is my husband, I made him look at all the pictures). And yes, you are the prettiest Snow White ever 🙂
I know you had mentioned that in the past. I never do a scary Halloween. I don’t have a real problem with it, but I just like it for more of our nerd stuff.
Your compliment means so much because I have definitely seen prettier Snow Whites!
I’m still in awe of the costume and love seeing the photos of how it was pieced together. 6 days?! Really? Amazed. Incredible. You can totally feel the warmth and love of the amazing community you live in through your words. I don’t think that I started really liking Halloween until I had kids. And then it’s the moment that they see their costume come together and the sense that they can transform into that character for the night.
I can’t imagine what he could do in 16 days.. or 16 months. Something BIG!
I love this town so much and you can just walk around and feel the love everywhere you go. I swear if we could just get California weather..
That picture of Cassidy dressed as Groot (amazing, amazing Groot) in the grocery store buying yogurt will forever be my favorite picture from your world. Your Rocket Raccoon and Superman are pretty amazing, too. And you most certainly are the fairest Snow White of them all.
Your Halloween makes me smile.
I love that photo too! It almost didn’t happen – can you imagine?? Then he was walking by the yogurt and Scarlet wanted some yogurt and it all just unfolded.
Thank you so much!
I still can’t get over Groot! Cassidy is amazingly creative. I got to hang out with little Groot. He was about as big as Cassidy’s (as Groot) foot! He would say “I am Groot!” in a cute little voice at every door, louder when people thought he was a tree. 🙂 We had a great Halloween too. Probably the best one I’ve ever had with the kiddos.
Your little Groot sounds so AWESOME and I applaud him. Or his parents. Probably all of them. I really want to see the movie.
So glad you had the best Halloween ever!! That’s awesome!!
The last photo before the NBC video is absolutely phenom! High five to Cassidy for working so hard and making such an awesome costume (who doesn’t love GROOT?!) High five to you for being able to be in the moment even though I’m sure you still have editing to do for all the shoots. 😉 Glad you had a great Halloween!
Lots of editing still! Luckily I took a break for a day or two.
Groot is amazing!
Cassidy really nailed Groot! So amazing! Also, Scarlet looks adorable as a Raccoon and Des, he totally has Superman hair. By the way, I think you totally pulled off Snow White!
Thank you! My sisters always liked being Snow White, so it never occurred to me that I would be a good one too.
I really can’t get over how incredible that Groot costume is. I showed my kids, and they were very impressed. Gwen also thinks Des is the cutest Superman ever. I think the headband really makes the costume!
I’m sad because he took that headband off! Luckily he had it on for photos. It was actually my sister’s old headband and somehow ended up being Scarlet’s headband.
But seriously, wear that costume out on normal days too. It would be so awesome. I am amazed he did that himself! If he showed the movie company (Disney I think) they would be impressed. So, so, so cool.
You look great as Snow White!
Next year, go as Labyrinth characters. I have no doubt Cassidy could come up with something. If I were creative, we’d so do that. But alas, I am not. I buy from Etsy and sometimes even they won’t do it.
One of my friends went as Jareth! She looked fabulous.
I think it would be really funny to wear it when it’s not Halloween. I used to wear my Supergirl costume out in public in the middle of June.
My grandson, Declan, (you know who he is, Tamara) told me that he met a big scary tree named Cassidy on Halloween. This was clearly one of the highlights of the day for him, and he still has no idea that Cassidy the scary tree is in any way related to his friend Scarlet. And, Cassidy the tree seems now much more impressive and memorable than scary. How cool is that?
That is so cool! And I remember Michelle and Dan telling me he was freaked out. And they were saying that it’s just Cassidy! Completely transformed.
That is the best costume! And homemade just blows my mind. Seriously- my mind is exploding! Your Halloween sounds so fun and definitely one for the books. This is a Hslloween you’ll look back on as one of the best ever! I haven’t had a milky way in forever either, but we bought lots of candy since Dylan didn’t pull his weight this year and get any. He’ll learn! Lol
Ha!! He didn’t pull his weight. Hope he is feeling well. The best thing about adulthood is that you can just go to the store and buy a Milky Way, or 17, but it’s not quite the same, is it?
Lordy, I saw this on Facebook and I’m telling you again how HEAD OVER HEELS I am for Cassidy’s artistic capabilities!! I’ve been a blogger friend for a while now…and seen several of the archived posts before I arrived…and this Groot costume goes shooting to #1 on my Top 10 Coolest Things I’ve Seen Cassidy Make via your blog! And beware…I’m not a sweet eater very often…but leave no Milky Way or anything caramel related unattended. I’m quick as a cat. Lastly…I totally agree with Scarlet on her Snow White statement 🙂 I LOVED this post and just shared it with a big group of my non-blogging friends, Tamara 🙂
Thank you so much for sharing my post!
And #1 is a big deal!! He did this in six days. Imagine what he could do in six weeks or six months or six years? He could probably build a palace.
I still cannot GET OVER THAT COSTUME!!! Oh that Cassidy… what a WONDER that man is!!! I swear the two of you are so so so perfect for each other!!!! What an amazing night you had, my friend!! And what is that I read about a milky way? Oh girl… EAT SOME CANDY!!!
I am living on it these days….
Mmmm……GOOD.
And I agree with Scarlet. You are the most beautiful princess in the world. Oh, and the costume is pretty cool too.
Aww!! If I am a beautiful princess, then so are you. We are the new generation of princesses.
Sometimes I think Cassidy and I are not evenly matched, but then a day like this happens, and I think we make a pretty cool family.
Now… Off to eat a snickers from their baskets!
Oh, Tamara what a spectacular Halloween your family had! Your photos are amazing. I saw some on Instagram of Groot and was mesmerized. I’ve been reading this whole post with absolute delight and a silly smile on my face. You all look amazing. You make a lovely Snow White!
Thank you! I think I could be a better Snow White. I just didn’t have time to throw it together. I saw better costumes online.
So, so great!!!! I love that you live in a small community where everyone knows everyone else. We have that here too and it’s truly the best. And, what else can I say about Cassidy’s costume? Just in awe! I mean, I could just never even phantom how to make something like that! Crazy.Crazy beautiful. And yes, you are the fairest of them all!
Blushing!!
We actually live in a city, but I swear it’s the smallest world. We also live in a village in a bigger city, and we managed to visit the downtown area of both.
So much community!
Aside from how utterly amazed I am at Cassidy’s skill (and so cool to see how it was made, thanks for sharing!) I am impressed that he could walk around in that costume. I feel like Cassidy should be working on the prop department for a film. What a Halloween for you guys! I am not determined next year to make a costume for Eve.
He actually walked really well in it! He was the tail end of the parade, though. And he could not have run to save his life.
so that costume is even more amazing now that I know the backstory!! What a creative mind you both have just in different extraordinary ways. How was it getting that costume in the car? You guys totally won Halloween like a million times over.
I’m not sure I can really confess how legal it was to put him in the back of the van like that! Oh well! it wasn’t easy but we got a rhythm going.
Cassidy needs to go to Hollywood to do movie sets & costumes!! I mean, that is incredible – and only in 6 days!! My brain doesn’t work like that and I have no wedding or other big event as an excuse!
No, my brain does not either! We have our own gifts, though.
I can’t imagine what he could do with more time.
OK I have to agree with Scarlet. You are the prettiest Snow White I’ve seen, I think you’ve even got the one at Disney beat. 🙂 As for Cassidy, I still can’t get over his costume and the fact that he made it in 6 days just shows how truly talented he is. Our Halloween wasn’t too bad at all. I had a Captain America and a Minnie Mouse who wanted the candy but didn’t want to have anything else with Halloween. I’m a Halloween party pooper. I like staying indoors and handing out the candy compared to actually going out. Hubby is the one who does that and he has fun with the kids doing it. Well now that I’ve seen 2014, I can’t wait to see what you guys come up with next year.
I’m not sure we could top this next year! Although maybe if he gives himself 12 days next year, he can do double the amazement.
I’m blushing at your Snow White comment, because I went to Disney World and I found them to be a lot prettier than I was!
I’m so glad you showed us how Cassidy made that costume! It’s so amazing! And what a perfectly adorable Rocket Racoon and Superman. I was only a green crayon for Halloween. Not very inventive, but my fellow teachers were also crayons, so we looked cute together. 🙂
I want to be a crayon too! And I love that you had counterpart crayons.
I wish he would do a guest post telling what went on in his brain, but I suppose his photos are good.
Oh my head! That is the best costume ever! Such a talent! Sounds like a wonderful time! I felt similarly in our New England town. I also know the tunnel vision feeling. That is so my MO also, it’s not always a good thing, though! Love the photo’s of Des as if he is looking up toward Krypton!
I felt the same way about the Superman photos! Maybe he is looking for his home planet.
I love that you felt that way in New England too.
Cassidy’s costume really, really was amazing. And it this was an “off Halloween” year for you – I cannot even imagine what you would d produce if you were 100% focused. BTW, it’s hard for me to multitask when something BIG is on the horizon, I totally get it.
I just would love to see what he can do in 12 days. Or six weeks! Maybe we will find out next year.
This is what I miss about living up in the east coast. I remember the seasons changing, the beautiful foliage, and always a fun Halloween. I would love to go back someday soon, maybe I need to plan a trip. My husband has never been to NYC and I may just have to get us over there for Blogher. PS I stole Snickers from my kids 🙂
If you are going to BlogHer, count me in!
I am all for trips away, but I was telling Cassidy last night that for that cost of a hotel room, he should come stay with me and we should ditch the kids. Then I go to the conference and he has fun and at night he could meet everyone.
i can promise you if we go we won’t bring the kiddos, so maybe they can hang out together! 🙂
That would be awesome! And of course the two of us! Legendary.
I pride myself on making kick-ass Halloween costumes… however, your husband takes the cake! That is beyond awesome!
Awesome! And what a wonderful thing to pride yourself on. I’m sure it’s legendary.
Cassidy’s costume was amazing! I mean, it looks like it came right out of a movie. Wow. How would he top that next year? That sounds like such a cozy Halloween – seeing so many familiar faces in your community.
And he did that in six days! What could he do in longer?
I’m still in awe over Groot costume! I just know this will be a Halloween you will all remember for a long time!
Forever!
glad you had a good one. wow on the costume!!
I know! Every day that passes is another date farther away from it but I am still as impressed as I was on that day.
I’m such a Halloween scrooge – I don’t know why I don’t enjoy it more. Maybe if I lived in a town like yours that did it up so big!!! I feel sure that your entire family should win the prize for costumes!!! My favorite part has to be the super cute headband that Des is wearing!!
Sadly, he took the headband off after these photos were taken. Luckily they landed in the photos!
It’s okay to be a Scrooge about it. I hope one day you can come up and visit us during Halloween!
Seriously that is one heck of an impressive costume – I’m speechless just looking at it! It’s like reliving the movie – he was my favorite character!! Scarlet looks SOOO beautiful in her costume! Loving it 🙂 I’m so tired right now I could collapse – thank God I have one hour left of work. Someone shoot me now. :'( Need a nap stat! Congrats to Cassidy on winning that costume prize! Hooah -awesome sauce 🙂 Have a great one love -Iva
I actually did take a nap today! I’ve been waiting for a day in which the work has died down enough to take one. Today isn’t that day but I still really needed one.
I never saw the movie but I’m sure I will be even more impressed with him when I do!
I took a nap too and it made ALL the difference! You haven’t seen Guardians of the Galaxy?? Go. Now!!! Lol.. It’s AWESOME!!
I want to! I may have to wait for video, though!
No waiting lol just go – definitely my fave movie of the year. 🙂
I don’t think it’s out anymore! Or else I would.
Download it – I’ll never tell 😉 lOL
Ha!! Even that isn’t very possible this early.
I love Halloween SO VERY MUCH for tons of reasons 🙂 Groot is/was amazing!! I cannot wait to see what is in store for next year, no pressure.
XXOO
Ha!! No pressure. I don’t know if you knew me last year when my husband constructed a 20 foot Christmas tree. We are definitely not going to top that this year. As for Halloween, if he could do this in six days, what could he do in 12 days??
I think I may know what you’re talking about….
That’s a beautifully creative mind, 6 days, and he made magic happen!!! I was happy with my one day White Rabbit costume, which in NO way holds a candle to Groot.
XOXO
I think you are very talented! And your mermaid costume!
aww shucks!! Thanks, Tamara 😉
XOXO
I absolutely love the Groot costume! So very awesome. Even better since he’s posing in front of the TARDIS shed.
Right?? That part was actually my idea because I wanted to see just how nerdy we could actually be.
That costume is so insane… I don’t even know who Groot is and I can appreciate its awesomeness.
I’d say it’s okay to drop the ball sometimes — it gives others a chance to shine. And SHINE they did!
What’s funny is that I didn’t even see the movie, and I almost don’t want to. Or maybe I will see it and be even more impressed with my husband.
Cassisy’s costume is amazing!! Well done. I’m so impressed!
Thank you! Not that I did any of it, but I’m so proud.
Okay, so Cassidy is 100% a true artist. I don’t know what he does during the day, but that costume is pure talent (and hard work). Your family is so cute…and you had princess hair again! Glad to see you all had a great Halloween!
He has a total office job during the day! Not artistic at all. Maybe creative in just the way he has to learn to deal with people. You would think he works as a costume designer!
As for my hair, thank you! That was just luck that it happened to be neater that day than usual.
Cassidy is AMAZING!!!! I showed everyone at work this post and they are in awe. What a fantastic job on the costume. I’m super impressed! I’m sure you were the fairest in all the land in your beautiful Snow White costume!!
Thank you for showing people the post! I think he is so amazing.
I did see a few toddler Snow Whites – I think they had me beat as fairest!
Wow!!! That costume is even more amazing when you see how Cassidy actually made it.
I would saw that last Halloween was probably the most amazing Halloween I’ve experienced so far. It was our first year actually going trick-or-treating in our neighborhood. Before we had kids we never handed out candy and then after we had our son we did Halloween parties and trunk-or-treats. However, last year we decided to go door to door and it was a lot of fun. Seeing a lot of our neighbors that we usually don’t get a chance to talk to. It makes me a little sad that so many people don’t go trick-or-treating in their own neighborhoods these days. This year there were very few trick-or-treaters out in our neighborhood. We only saw two other families and we went down three streets. One of my neighbors was even grilling hot dogs, had sodas, and full-size candy bars for families trick-or-treating and he only had two families to come by. I hope that maybe next year there is a better turn out in our neighborhood.
That’s so awesome about it being your most amazing Halloween so far!
I find that we don’t get a lot of trick-or-treaters because it seems so organized. However there are neighborhoods that do it up old-fashioned style and I guess people generally go to those fun neighborhoods here.
Wonderbar. that’s what I steal from my kids’ treat buckets. They don’t even know such a bar exists. thankfully it is not a very popular one and I usually only end up with 4 or 5.
He IS Groot! OMG – amazing. *tosses all the costume awards*
And you are the prettiest Snow White for sure. 🙂
Some of my best Halloween’s were at University because there would be various parties all week long. A school costume ball, one of the Fraternities had a Masquerade Charity Ball every year, of course tons of Halloween night parties too. I needed like 3 costumes each year. One year 2 of my friends and I went as the 3 Blind Mice. I don’t know why it was hilarious, but it was.
Yes, he is Groot! He really is!!
I appreciate that about the Snow White. I’m not even being modest when I say that I saw a three-year-old Snow White and she was prettier than I was! Well deserved.
3 Blind Mice? That just cracked me up.
Photo?
You know what…. I may just have a photo in an album somewhere! I’ll have to look and then scan somehow if I do find one. Oh gosh.. this could be end badly.
Or really awesomely! You can just show it to me! I’m trustworthy.
Wow! Your husband’s costume is amazing. I assume that character is from a movie or television show? He is really talented and creative for making that costume. It must have taken a long time to put together.
I have many, many memorable Halloweens from when I was a kid. I used to make my own costume and I won costume contests nearly every year. One year I was a refrigerator and another year I was a California raisin. I think I won the costume contest both years.
Like usual I enjoyed looking at your beautiful photos. I am happy to hear that you had a fun and memorable Halloween.
I was a California raisin too! In third grade. That’s so cool that we both were.
Cassidy’s costume is from the movie, “Guardians of the Galaxy” and the character is Groot!
HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!! Your HUSBAND is a flipping genius and he is going to have to be GROOT for the next 10 years – AHH HHA HA AH AHA HA HA HA AH AH!
The next 20!! I don’t know if you knew me last year, but he brought home a 20 foot Christmas tree. No exaggeration. Almost broke his back. So this year he can’t really top that. He’ll have to go with a modest 13 foot tree.
Your husband is awesome. I made my own mummy costume once. It was pretty impressive…but hard to pee.
Let me tell you that he could not drink or pee for hours!
Thats pretty amazing ! Great Job cassidy, and Tamara, kudos for the millions of sweats you broke helping him out!! And the fantastic blog all about your wonderful Halloween ! I am very impressed, That was truly an amazing costume, I hope he doesn’t retire it anytime soon !!
Thank you so much! I deserve such a small amount of credit for what I did, but it was actually really hard!
I loved seeing the pictures of Cassidy’s building materials. I had been wondering how he did it. Kudos, applause and hail to his master craftsmanship! I think my kids would have wet themselves if they had seen him walking around town.
I think some kids probably did wet themselves! I know some parents told me their kids were still talking, days later, about the giant walking tree.
It was hard to try to explain to people what materials he used, so I was happy he took photos.
You are a gorgeous princess! And I totally pictured your town having an amazing Halloween. And HOLY WOW with your husband!
Thank you so much! And yes, this town really is so amazing. I think they should appoint me as a tourism guide.
Your Halloween sounds like so much fun. When Reiko saw the photo of Groot, he said “robot!” LOL. I’m wondering how he was able to walk, drive, and go to the store with that costume! Nonetheless, it was a wonderful hit!
Let’s just say he was not able to drive at all! Or sit in a car. Luckily we have a van with a big back.
I’m glad you showed the picture of who Cassidy’s character is because you are so right! He is pretty talented. It’s so cool how he came up with the idea for sure!
Yeah, I honestly cannot even imagine. It’s safe to say that he’s a very creative guy.
OMG this is awesome. I never saw such amazing outfits for Halloween! You are the best <3
Thank you! I had never really seen anything so amazing either. He was the hit of the town.
Your hubby’s costume was so epic and amazing – I have no words. My brain doesn’t think that way either – I wouldn’t even know where to begin, or how to think about beginning. You all looked great. I wish you could have come trick or treating in my neighborhood :)! My favorite picture is the one of your son playing with his toys while the amazing Groot gets dressed behind him – priceless!
That is one of my favorite photos too! He just has this whole business as usual look on his face.
We would love to come trick-or-treating to your neighborhood!
Haha I love this movie and sing that song to the kids! I mean Cassidy’s costume is sooo good! I’m not sure how he walked around in it!
It really wasn’t easy! He wasn’t fast but he was quite steady on his feet.
Your Halloween sounds like it was magical! I love *all* of your costumes!! I also think it’s amazing you had your first Milky Way in years. WHAT?!?! I just ate my most recent Milky Way 5 minutes ago (out of Lucy’s bag). I guess that’s why you fit into your Snow White costume, and I had to go as Ursula the Sea Witch. –Lisa
Ha! I bet you were a beautiful Ursula. Someone recently told me that was their dream costume. I think it would be so much more amazing than to be Ariel.
I CANNOT believe your husband made that costume from those supplies up there. He is SO talented!!!!!!!!!! I just kept looking at his costume thinking “HOW did he MAKE that????” And after seeing some of his supplies, I’m still sitting here thinking HOW DID HE MAKE THAT?! Amazing. SO cool. I would’ve been proud too. You guys had an awesome Halloween!!
I know! People kept wanting to hear what he used and wanted to see the photos, but it’s not like it cleared it up for me. I saw everything he did and I still don’t get it. How did his mind come up with that??
Sounds like you all had an awesome day! Grocery shopping in costume wins Halloween!
I thought so too! I think he even would’ve sacrificed some of our other parts of Halloween if it meant that we got to go grocery shopping. We were hungry.
WHAT?! Your husband’s costume is so. badass. Like holy crap! This is incredible. And you make the perfect Snow White, seriously. And as always, your kids are just the cutest things ever.
Thank you for all of that! I seriously can’t believe he made this.
Our Halloween was pretty awesome, too but OMG I canNOT BELIEVE Cassidy is so talented! That costume is amazing like seriously amazing amazing amazing. OMG. WOW. Indeed, my friend, what WILL you do next year? And I agree with Scarlet – you are the prettiest Snow White ever. The kids looks so happy and happy and I wish I lived in your town!
I wish you did too! Photos constantly. And it’s a great town.
I don’t even know what next year will be. Either he will admit that this year was bigger, or he will do something even more amazing.
That costume is freakin’ genius! I am SO impressed that he made that out of a bunch of well, home improvement stuff. Really great – I can only imagine the reactions in person. The kids are adorable and you are the fairest of them all for sure!
Yeah, he pretty much used insulation and made a 7 foot tree!
Thank you about the fairest of them all,. I really am modest and don’t believe I was the prettiest snow white, but it meant a lot that Scarlet did.
As you already know, I’m in awe of Cassidy’s costume, and the fact that he figured out how to do it. My mind doesn’t work that way, so when I see that someone’s does, it astounds me.
You make a perfect Snow White, by the way.
Thank you! It was always a costume my sister wore but she is three skintones darker than I am. I thought Snow White should be fair!
As for Cassidy, I don’t think my brain could ever work that way!
I love Cassidy’s costume. What a talent. Between the two of you, the creativity is endless. New label: Creative Power couple.
That’s the best label I ever heard! I wish we worked better together, but it seems like we tend to do things alone.
I’m surprised movie set/costume designers aren’t knocking down your door for Cassidy’s skills! Wow!! The kids looked great and you do make a beautiful Snow White 🙂
Thank you so much!
I’m still hoping that the right person sees this post. You just never know!
Oh my gosh! When I saw the first pic you posted of Cassidy’s costume, I thought it was a fixture or a statue that does move! I did not know it was his costume! AMAZING! That would win any contest Tamara!
He totally did win! An envelope of money. So awesome.
Seriously, your husband’s costume! WOW! I would have smiled and giggled with excitement and awe if I saw it in person too!!!! Seriously, amazing! And no, you did not drop the ball because you have it all on camera!!! I loved seeing the work-in-progress photos! And of course, the kids with him for scale. You are certainly the fairest of them all!
Thank you so much! I was just so sad thinking that it’s Friday night, and last Friday night was so much fun for Halloween! Although this Friday night will hold its own gems. For one, I think my husband is bringing home fresh soup!
Cassidy’s costume was spectacular. Serious talent there!!! And you were simply gorgeous! Sounds like a fan Halloween! Milky Way… Yum… Can’t buy me here…
I could send you some! We are overflowing in them.
Is there anything else left to say about Cassidy’s costume? I think, hardly. I’ll say it anyway: Awesome! Love the photo to your #4. I am trying to imagine me shopping there while Groot walks up behind me, grabbing a yoghurt over my shoulder – bwaaaahahahaha – He is / was stealing the show, but yours, Scarlett’s and Des’ costume are so pretty, too, really, just with the power of the Groot…
Aww, you stole a Milkyway! You know that was the treat my dad brought me as kid when he got home from work. I would stand and wait (im)patiently till his car rolled down the hill, he parked and opened the door. Then I’d scream: Milkyway, Milkyway – oh, those memories when you’re getting older
Forgot to say: As a wife it is one of the greatest feelings to be proud of your husband, right?! I know I am every time David writes his story or tinkers with his robot 🙂
It’s an amazing feeling. I hope he has it for me, but he’s not really very forthcoming with compliments.
That’s a very special memory. I’m glad you shared it.
I have this up session with the yogurt section of grocery stores. I just always think you find the most interesting people staring at them with glazed looks in their eyes.
So I had him pose! But we really did buy yogurt, so it wasn’t fake.
That is an awesome costume! Wow. I can’t even get my husband to dress like a “mafia gangster” which only requires a simple suit-ha!
Great pictures and you do look like the fairest one of them all, love Snow White. And the kids of course adorable!
I had one too many Milky Ways myself! :-p
Sadly that was the only Milky Way I could find! I have been wanting them since so I may have to buy them.
1. Please tell me Cassidy will wear that again. Only this time, on a random Tuesday, in late winter.
2. I love gassing up on Halloween. I’ve done it as Elvis. I’ve done it as Little Caesar, too, of pizza fame. I should do that again, only this time, on a random Tuesday, in late winter.
3. You didn’t really drop the ball. You might have had a bobble. And anyone who knows football that sometimes the bobble makes the actual catch all the more spectacular.
Late winter would be sufficient because the costume is very hot. And I can assure you that he already has plans to wear it to a comic con near Boston in the next month or so.
Which isn’t as fun as, say, a convenience store.
I had to come back here because I just now saw part of Guardians of the Galaxy (which my husband LOVES) to show him Groot’s costume because now that I’ve seen the real Groot? OMG Cassidy ROCKED IT!!! xxoo
Are you in Florida??
Yes I am!!! That’s why I’m answering ten years later.
What did your husband think of Groot?
I was just showing my sister these pics, and explaining how I’m going to win the contest and make out with Chris Pratt.
The Groot costume is awesome! I love how your family goes all out for Halloween 🙂
I do too, and it was fun to look at all these pictures again. Des and Scarlet have grown so much!! 🍁 🎃
That costume is spectacular! I remember when you shared it, wow time goes by fast. It is still one of the best costumes I have ever seen.
I remember that post, and I’m in as much awe at that Groot costume now as I was then. Seriously amazing. What a magical Halloween. I’m not sure which was the best Halloween of my life. I was the Queen of Hearts one year when I was young, and won first prize, so that was fun. But my kids’ Halloweens were so much more fun.
Ooo I remember this post! I was so amazed by the Groot costume. You guys need to go to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and wear it! I bet it would be a HUGE hit and you’d go viral.
