How to Make Yourself More Employable

There are some methods that you can put into place that will help make you more employable and mean employers are much more likely to want to hire you as opposed to the other candidates.

When you are entering the world of work, it can take a lot longer than you may have previously thought to get employment. This is especially true if you don’t have any qualifications, or if you have some qualifications, but the jobs you are looking at require something a bit more specific. Luckily, there are some methods that you can put into place that will help make you more employable and mean employers are much more likely to want to hire you as opposed to the other candidates.

The first option you should consider is to put yourself forward for some sort of workplace certification program. This is offered in various places and is where you can take up one or even multiple qualifications that you can add to your resume to make it more eye-catching to employers. For example, you may be looking at jobs that either have a requirement or preference for you to have some first aid training. If you do not have this qualification, you cannot put it on your resume, and if it comes down to the employer choosing between you and another candidate and the only difference is the other candidate has the first aid training, whereas you don’t, the employer is more likely to choose the other candidate. If you want this to change, you should go for this or any other workplace certification program to help make you more employable. You can click on this link to learn more, and the good news is that some of these programs will only take a short amount of time to complete, which means you should be able to apply for and get the job you want sooner, rather than later.

Another option for you to consider is to undertake some work experience. If you’re unsure of what this is, this is where you go into a workplace and get to learn more about the type of work the people who are working there do and is also something good to put on your resume. It shows that you are interested in the type of work you are applying for and gives you some credible experience to have. Even if you end up not wanting to go into that job area, it can give you various transferable skills that you will be able to apply to other job sectors. Plus, it helps you build up your networking skills and may also mean that the company you do work experience for might end up hiring at some point if they are happy with your work.

Finally, you should consider getting some interview practice. Aside from your resume, your interview is one of the first times your potential employer will be able to get a real first impression of you. This means you need to learn how to dress the part and how to make a good impression from the moment you enter the room to the moment you leave it. Either get your friends and family to go through some potential interview questions with you, or you should aim to go on as many interviews as possible to get plenty of practice, even if you don’t necessarily like the job you have got an interview for. If you can get quite a few interviews, this will give you more of a choice should you be offered any of those jobs.

Entering the world of work can be tough, but with time and building up your resume and confidence, you will get there.
