Also, this post sent me down memory lane to find old photos of my three grandfathers – who all served. I come from a blended family so I was blessed to grow up with seven grandparents. The five of us had four grandmothers and three grandfathers. In fact, we have longevity on multiple sides, because my mom’s parents both lived to age 100 and my dad’s parents passed away only two years ago. I miss all of my grandparents, for various reasons, and I also miss the chances to get closer with them, and to hear their stories. They were rich with stories. Collectively, they experienced the Spanish Flu, the Great Depression, and many wars too. I remember my awesome Grandpa Ben (my father’s father and the reason for my baby’s middle name) telling stories of what he did and ate overseas. What I can do now is ask my parents, aunts, and uncles.
How to Donate a Car to Help Disabled Veterans:
You can help the brave men and women who served – by donating any car, truck, RV, or boat to DAV! Also, you can qualify for a tax deduction at the same time. I know with us, we had a spare vehicle earlier this year. It was time for a new minivan because of the new baby, and our old minivan was quite old by then, but it still ran. So we looked into donating our old vehicle. It can be a high cost and quite a hassle to repair or sell a car you no longer need or want. We have a hatchback and a new minivan, so having that spare third car just took up space in our driveway! The process of donating the vehicle is free, and has convenient pickup too. It’s awesome to turn an old car or other vehicle into a resource that can help ensure that our nation’s heroes have the opportunity to enjoy the freedoms that their sacrifices have made possible.
How It Works:
- Visit Car4DAV.com to submit the secure online form or you can call 844-440-4267 seven days a week.
Then, schedule your free and convenient pick-up. DAV works around your schedule to pick-up your donated vehicle, so as long as your vehicle is towable and tow truck accessible, DAV provides free and convenient pick-up in a touchless experience. They can pick up your vehicle just about anywhere in the U.S. within 72 hours of completing the donation.
Make sure to get your Tax Deduction. Most vehicle donations qualify for a tax deduction. When your vehicle is picked up, the driver will provide you with an initial donation receipt – you may claim as a tax deduction the fair market value of your vehicle up to $500 on your donation even if your vehicle sells for less. If your vehicle sells for over $500, DAV will provide a 1098-C IRS form which will allow you to claim the full sale price.
*All vehicles are considered! They accept cars, trucks, RVs, motorcycles, trailers, boats, campers, off-road vehicles, heavy equipment, and most other motorized vehicles— whether they’re running or not.
More About DAV:
DAV (Disabled American Veterans) is dedicated to a single purpose – to keep their promise to America’s veterans. And they do this by empowering veterans to lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity, and by ensuring that veterans and their families can access the full range of benefits available to them. They also fight for the interests of America’s injured heroes on Capitol Hill, by providing employment resources to veterans and their families. And by educating the public about the great sacrifices and needs of veterans transitioning back to civilian life. DAV, a non-profit organization that helps 1M+ veterans, was founded in 1920 and chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1932.
