Heart health is a topic super close to me, so I love celebrating the good stuff.

Two summers ago, my father-in-law had a septuple bypass surgery. I remember that being one of the scarier experiences of my life – visiting him in the hospital and waiting for medical info – but he has since recovered nicely and spent three weeks in Spain two years ago. We try to see him often during these current times, and I always marvel at how healthy he looks. His two year Heartiversary is coming up soon, as his surgery was in May of 2019. I can’t believe it! It’s a great reason to celebrate, though, because this happy occasion needs to be noted and celebrated.

How to Celebrate a Heartiversary With Cake and Decorations:

For our party, we chose a Carrot Applesauce Cake, and we had a heart pan from Valentine’s Day that came in handy as well. We also chose Big Dot of Happiness for decorations. Their passion is creating Goose Bump Moments and memories that will last a hopefully long lifetime. They make designer party collections that make it easier for us to be Party Throwing Heroes for our loved ones. Life needs a lot of celebrations, I think, and this is a particularly big one. You can see the line here. We have the Bunting Banner, Clothespin Garland Banner, DIY Essentials Kit, Coasters, and Wine Bottle Labels. We used them on mason jars which we filled with lemonade.

Carrot Applesauce Cakes (Feed 10):

What You Need:

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 55 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes

About 1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 Tbsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 Tbsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
2 eggs
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/2 tsp vanilla
1-2 cups shredded carrots
1 cup sugar
1/2 jar (8 ounces) applesauce
Raisins and pecans (optional)

What You Do:

1 – Preheat oven to 350 F, and grease your (heart-shaped, in our case) baking pan.

2 – Then in a bowl, combine flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg; whisk to blend.

3 – In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, and then add vegetable oil, sugar, and vanilla.

4 – Stir in your carrots and applesauce, and then add dry ingredients and optional ingredients.

5 – Mix the batter and spoon it into prepared pans.

6 – Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

7 – You can also frost with a cream cheese glaze but we liked ours plain!

  1. What a wonderful thing to celebrate. I love the idea of the heartiversary and your decorations are so cute! Heart disease is something that has affected both my parents and my husbands side of the family, so heart health is very important to us.

  2. My father-in-law, who is no longer living, was a heart transplant patient. This would have been so perfect for him. Wish I had known about it when he was still with us. His transplant was something of a second birthday.
