One of the most unanswered questions in the world is related to work-life balance – it seems that it’s a common struggle with people across the world, regardless of age, income, location, etc. I know that I set up a life of working remotely when my second child was two, because my oldest was in preschool, the littlest was doing half-time daycare, and my career was taking off. That was seven years ago, and I haven’t looked back once. Even though I now have a toddler and a newborn, as well as an elementary school aged kid and a middle schooler. So many ages and stages, and the balance is even hard for my husband, who is on paternity leave right now. Since the recent trend of working from home, working hours stretch way beyond the 9-5 schedule. You’re replying to business emails over dinner and spending the rest of the day on your laptop.

We only get to settle for what pays the bills and keeps food on the table. However, that doesn’t mean your current job must be tedious. If you develop an interest in your line of work, you will soon see new opportunities to cross your path. And that leads you towards a happier day at work. By developing an interest in your job, you make it less of a stress. Getting out of bed in the morning won’t be so difficult after all. And you’ll be at a much lesser risk of burnout or stress from work.

2 – Plan Your Days Off:

Achieving the perfect balance between work and life isn’t a daily judgment. Similarly, your breaks and off-time shouldn’t be left out of the daily routine either. Suppose you have an important social or family commitment coming up. In that case, it is best to inform your employer at least a week in advance. You can offer to work extra before the day off or after to make up for the day off. But that would still give you a great chance to catch up with friends and family. A common misconception about achieving the perfect work-life balance is that we expect everything to magically fall within its designated time, which is never the case. Just like you sometimes have to push your sleep a little farther to work late, you need to make room for your personal and social commitments from work as well.

3 – Set Up Your Home Office:

Sitting down all day can hinder your health, so it’s important to set up your office so that you have space to move around or even stand up. Position your desk near the window so that you can get as much natural light as possible; vitamin D is essential for your health, so getting a good dose of sunlight throughout the day will help to keep your energy levels up. A standing desk might also be a useful addition to your home office; having a standing desk means that you have the freedom to move around more as you work. Additionally, when it comes to practicality, buying used office furniture is cost-effective and eco-friendly. Purchasing second-hand furniture helps to reduce the demand for new wood. You should have just a good eye and thorough check to get a good condition second-hand office furniture.

4 – Take Care of Your Health:

Rest is one of the most important factors of achieving an ideal work-life balance. The duration, quality, and timing of your rest/sleep have a lot to say about your work-life balance. And, incorporate more movement into your day. Going out for a lunchtime walk is something you should try to weave into your everyday routine. Working from home can feel lonely and isolating at times, so enjoying interaction with some of your local friends can help to reset your mind for the afternoon ahead. Getting some fresh air everyday can also help you to take a screen break and feel revitalized in the middle of the day.

When you work from home, it can be very easy to skip meals or head to your local takeout for a quick fix. Cooking healthy, delicious meals from scratch will improve your health dramatically, and you will start to enjoy your meal breaks so much more. Stocking up your cupboards ahead of time can help you feel prepared for the upcoming week.

5 – Learn How to Switch Off:

Working from home can cause you to work more hours than you should be, simply because your laptop is there. Although it’s very tempting to catch up on work outside of office hours, try to leave your laptop in another room and switch off when you need to.

With all of these ideas in mind, you will soon be on track to creating a healthy working from home routine. Slowly introduce new ways of working from home whether you’re standing up at your desk or cooking healthier meals. As soon as you start incorporating these small changes into your routine, you will start to see the benefits to your mind and body.

    By the way, many people work remotely now, and they notice that it has become more tricky to focus on tasks. There are a lot of distractions at home: children, pets, a washing machine that says it’s time to get the laundry out. To avoid this and stay productive, I try to leave home to do some work at least twice a week. I like coworking space for this. There is the most favorable environment for work. A study by the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health found that participants said they were more productive (89.1%) and better able to concentrate (71.9%) in a coworking space than they were when working from home.
