How I Met Your Father: The Trailer.

“I would like, if I may, to take you on a strange journey.” — The Criminologist from The Rocky Horror Picture Show

I’m going to take an undetermined amount of time off from the “normal” vibe of this blog. I don’t know how long this will take – anywhere from a couple of weeks to…more than that. I assure you that my present will still be here when I return shortly. My pregnancy, Scarlet-isms, and thoughts on love, friendship, parenting, anxiety, careers, and more. We’re not going anywhere for long! I may post more than I usually do, but I will not post less. I’m embarking on my first mini-series.

Everything you are about to read is true.

Nearly everything you are about to read is, as of the time and publishing of this Introduction, still unwritten. (Gulp)

What you are about to read is one of the hardest things I’ve ever written. I already know this and I haven’t written it yet.

Expect pictures, as per usual, and jokes and musings and more. Expect mountains, oceans, moose, wolves, whales, dolphins, one shark and one dead red thing floating in the ocean. Expect Adventure, of the greatest kind. Expect love. Expect pain.

I’ve written this story before, but not to the extent of what you’re about to read. What I wrote before was shortened and glossed over for mass print. It was like the skeleton of the real story. It told you the outline and the basic emotions of what is the richest love story I am lucky enough to know. It was safer than what you’re about to read. I don’t want to discount it. I wrote it for our wedding website – click here – and I’ve never been disappointed with it. It’s just not quite as nitty and gritty as I get here in my blog. Here is the skeleton AND the flesh and bones, the meat, of how I met Scarlet’s father.

I only told this story in its entirety once aloud. It was to a 99-year-old woman. When I finally finished after about 30-40 minutes, she was wiping tears from her eyes. I was shaken to the core myself. Reading it piece by piece, I hope you will understand why it shakes me to the core. I hope it will shake you to the core too. Love takes joy, pain and leaps of faith.

Sacrifices and laughter. Big changes, even when you’re set and stubborn in your ways. As someone once told us, “Love will change you. Let it change you.” If it doesn’t change nearly everything you think you know about yourself, what’s the point?

“Gypsy woman said to me, “One thing you must bear in your mind:
You are young and you are free, but damned if you’re deceased in your own lifetime.”
Oh, you have a flame; feel it in your heart.
And down at the core is the hottest part.
We can run without fear.
It is burning.
It is burning”

— The Core by Eric Clapton

And so we begin…shortly.
