Of course you are! I know I am. I wrote my first miniseries – How I Met Your Father – when I was pregnant with Des during a particularly bad winter. Come to think of it, all winters are bad, right? Wrong. Right. I don’t know. So anyway, I’d write late into the night while Scarlet was sleeping and I really relived that part of my life, even years after the fact. It was all so terrible and amazing and magical. This time, I’m going to start a bit earlier, when it’s all still so alive in my mind. And how!
So you’re probably wondering something. How did I find a TARDIS in Alaska? Did I really time travel? Or maybe you’re wondering why we had our honeymoon eight years after our wedding? Valid question. Maybe not as good as the TARDIS one, but we’ll get to that. We had our honeymoon because we never had one after we got married. We didn’t have a lot money, we were generally stupid people (or at least I was), and I was pregnant with Scarlet only a few months after our wedding. And that was also when we decided to move to the east coast. Only one of those things was well-planned. Oh wait, neither of them were! That’s ok, though, because we found our way. To Alaska. To our honeymoon. And we’ll find our way again.
(You’d never know we have been married eight years now, right? Totally looking like glowing 20-somethings here!)
And here I have found my way to a new miniseries. It will not be uninterrupted. Last time I wrote a blog miniseries, I had one kid, pregnancy insomnia, and no careers. Now I have two kids, a husband of EIGHT years, and two careers. That said, this miniseries will hold me accountable to get my photos up, and get my fingers typing. I’m excited for this – I hope you are too.
Then our family member, Erika, picked us up to have dinner at her home with Steve, and then a nice warm bed where we couldn’t believe we were in Alaska, but we were in Alaska and had to sleep after a gazillion hours awake thus far!
Stay tuned for Part II..
This is me linking up, as one of my favorite things to do, with Finish The Sentence Friday. This week’s topic is “One of my favorite vacation memories is..” There’s still time to write yours. Come link up with your spin on any of the matters: HERE.
I saw so many of your updates online, but I loved seeing them here all in one place. Seriously, looked like such a magical honeymoon and just so happy and ecstatic that you got to finally do this!!! <3 🙂
I am still in utter shock. And apparently jet lag takes a full week to wear off! So worth it, though!!! Life dream!
Tamara! I am so thrilled to be witness to your dream come true. LOVE. And sign me up for the mini-series!
Yay!! I will keep it coming. I believe Part II will be on Monday. I’m so excited and I haven’t actually done it yet!!
Wow, I knew this was your dream trip and you made it come true. I just love your photos and you seem to have had an amazing time. I’m so happy that you had an amazing time there. You’ve inspired me to take a trip to Alaska now myself. 🙂
Now that I can’t wait to read about! It’s otherworldy there – pure magic. Nothing like it.
I LOVE this! What a great way to tell a story. Your adventures are amazing and I’m so glad you guys made this trip happen. The last picture: priceless!
Thank you! That was certainly the one that got the most feedback out of any others. It’s a moment, for sure.
Dreams do come true!!
They can happen to you!
I loved seeing your updates pop up in my newsfeed! I’m so happy for you that you got to go on this trip. And moose!
Tons of moose! And it’s still not quite enough. I don’t know what my problem is, but I suppose I have to go back!
What a fantastic honeymoon! I’ll wager you enjoyed it ten times more than you would have 8 years ago! You’ve reminded me of the time my pal and I were touring around Banff in Alberta just before the summer season started. We had to get back to our Vancouver tourism job so this was the only time we could go. Anywho, everything opened May 15th or so it seemed. Of course we were there May 5th. Arrived at the Columbia Ice Fields to find everything shut up tight. No bombadier rides, no walking on the glacier. No worries. We would do it on our own. What multiple cautionary signs? Midway steps onto the glacier and we were up to our hips in ice. Whoopsies. Could have run into major trouble – no one else there. We survived. Just don’t tell our kids, okay?
I wager you’re right about that!
My mom went fly fishing in Banff, and did some glacier things as well. I wonder what shoes you were wearing on the ice fields? We had to wear crampons over expensive rented hiking boots but saw plenty of tourists with tennis shoes on! The guides called them something specific but I can’t remember what it was. It was hilarious, though. I’m so glad you survived! I have a grizzly bear story later in this and it will not impress my parents and kids. I was NOT smart!
Cassidy reminded me! “Shoebies!!”
I enjoyed the recap. I missed some of these. I commented on one where I still have the same reaction as when I saw it the first time. I was still scared for you even though you are back. I look forward to the continuation of this miniseries!
It will get scarier, trust me!! I have photos of the dumb things we did, but mostly it was the smart things we did too.
I would move to Homer in an instant! The girls loved the blackish sand and stacking rocks on the beach there. It’s one of my favorite Alaskan memories. Looking forward to part 2!
What’s weird is that I ducked into a shop in Homer, and the shopkeeper’s daughter lives in my town and worked for my good friend. Eerie! Alaskan magic.
I read all of your updates and posts! I was so proud of your for ziplining! I would be majorly scared and 6 hours on a boat with rough seas? Forget it! I think my husband and I are in need of a re-honeymoon. That’s a thing right? We haven’t been alone on a trip for like 18 years
It’s totally a thing! We need a re-wedding. I was too nervous the first time around. Bah!
I LOVED all your updates. They made me want to go to Alaska.
It’s otherwordly there. I totally recommend it.
My bio mom was in AK until recently and my bio sis is in Kodiak now. I know I’ve told you how much I want to go before but OMG your FB statuses were awesome. I love your honeymoon, even after 8 years. I can’t wait for the rest. Your photos are breathtaking as always.
Ah, thanks! The real photos are coming.. tonight! Well, a small fraction of them.
I haven’t been to Kodiak but now I really want to go.
Hooray for moose! What a fun recap! Your time in Alaska sounds like quite an adventure 🙂
A series of strange adventures, for sure. More coming soon tonight!
The reunion picture is such a sweet photo. I’m looking forward to reading more about your Alaska trip.
Thank you! It’s one of my favorite pictures ever. It makes me incredibly happy. Stay tuned for new adventures tonight!
It’s amazing how your Facebook posts become a story! You certainly had a great, great time in Alaska. And you did zipline! 😉
I totally did! I had my doubts.. so many thrills still to come that we didn’t get to do. I’m glad I had that one.
so happy and excited for you looking at all your photos. what an amazing time! agh! your dream vacay. gorgeous!
So true. And now I will make new dreams, but going back to this one is a new one!
It was so fun following along during your trip, and now I get a recap here! I don’t remember seeing the moose video, though – amazing! I guess they aren’t charging animals like rhinos; I was a little scared for Cassidy.
Have I told you we are going on an Alaska cruise next summer? I’m going to pick your brain at some point before then.
Oh dear – I had a whole answer for you typed out and then my computer crashed.
That said, moose are totally charging animals and are quite dangerous. They kill more people than bears, easily, between stomping, charging, and vehicle accidents.
That said, you’ll notice that Cassidy is the only one who got that close! I was behind him freaking out while locals reassured me that the bull’s body language was passive and that in Anchorage you can get closer to them, than elsewhere.
That said, a male in rutting season and a female with babies (for about a year) are more dangerous than others, but all should put you on high alert.
Your cruise sounds awesome! I want my brain picked! (that sounds weird)
So great and very glad for you two!!! Sorry I was a little late to the party, but Hermine had other plans for me 🙁
PS There is a “tardis” in Carabelle, Florida. It’s a phone booth that doubles as the city’s police station! They claim it is the smallest police station in the world.
Oh man, sorry about Hermine! I was wondering if she was hitting your area. I hope everything is ok with your home and town.
Cool about the Florida TARDIS! I’ll have to see it when we visit in February.
Every time I saw one of your Alaska updates in my feed, I smiled and gave you a virtual high-five. I loved that you embarked on this adventure. Can’t wait to hear more. xo
Here I am, virtually high-fiving you back. There are so many micro-stories in the big story, and I’m elated to be able to share them with you all.
wow! I am glad you posted all of these here because I totally missed most of them, but I did know you were there! It’s awesome because you were still blogging without writing long form 🙂 So good! I think its totally awesome that you found a Tardis and SO many animals, whoa!
Aw, I’m glad you got to see them here as one story.
I definitely discovered a fun trick for when you want to post about something, but you’re not ready to type it all out.. yet.
I followed along online, but you know I loved seeing it all again and in order! I am so happy that you guys got to go on your dream honeymoon!
Thank you!!! And we were so close to you! Argh.
I think I saw all your updates as they happened, but it was fun to read them again all together. Such an amazing vacation, and I can’t wait to read more and see more photos. My husband and I didn’t go on our honeymoon until our 10th anniversary, so you beat us by two years :)!
Oh wow – well that makes me happy that you went! Where did you go?
Nowhere near as exciting as Alaska. We went to Hawaii.
This is the coolest, watched the trip as it was happening, but I missed a few updates. It is so cool that you lived a dream, you pushed through so much to make it happen and had the best time while you were there! So happy that you got to see so many moose, your photos are stunning! Can’t wait to read the next part! Thanks for taking us along vicariously on your Honeymoon.
I’m so glad you were able to see them all here! Facebook has such weird algorithms that I can’t imagine they’d show you everything.
Thanks for being along for the journey!
I love it already. I saw some of the FB statuses, but not all.
Facebook algorithms are tricky. Here’s my way to show them all!
And I’m so glad you are going. You’ll love it!
I am FINALLY getting over to read this and see all the amazing pictures and footage of your incredible adventure!! Oh Tamara- I am SO HAPPY YOU DID THIS!!!
But that last pic does it for me. *Tears*
It’s the one, isn’t it? My haircutter told me it made her cry. I am SO happy my mother-in-law took that photo.. oh man.
LOVE THIS! LOVE IT ALL!!
I’m so glad you had the chance to get out there and see Alaska, see moose, and conquer shiz!!
I’m so happy for you, Tamara.
Can you bottle up that Take that Sucka Punk Chump Anxiety Serum? I’d like it… for a friend. 🙂
XOXO
I need it for me! I had no trouble confronting moose and zip-lining, but put me on the school playground and I get weak in the knees.
*sigh for eternity*
that is all.
I GET IT!
late to the party as usual. Or maybe I was saving them up so I could read them all at once.
I think it’s much more fun to be late to the party!
I had so much fun watching your Alaska adventure on Facebook. And if that’s not even half the story, then I can’t wait to read more.!
So, so much more. See you there!!
Hi Tamara, I really must go on FB more often! Better eight years late with the Honeymoon than never and it looks fab. I love your photos of the moose and I’m not sure my hand would have been so steady with the camera if a moose had been so close to me!
xx
