I love a brand with a good story! Back in 1927, meat was naturally aged and hand-rubbed in a small family smokehouse in the heart of the Missouri Ozarks. Most people didn’t have fridges then, but they needed to eat, so food needed to be preserved! E.M. Burger (great name!) learned the craft of curing meat from his mother, Hulda. She brought over a family recipe from Germany in the late 1800s, and he used it to rub country hams in a dry-cure mixture during the winter. And then aged them for 9-12 months. And despite the fact that this company now cures more than a half million country hams a year, and produces a variety of authentic cured and smoked meat and poultry products, they still use Grandma Hulda’s method of hand-preparing and slow-curing meat today!

Holiday Meals: Burgers Smokehouse Spiral Ham in Oven:
The Products:
Burgers’ Smokehouse is still family-owned, of course, and now also makes a variety of proteins, cheeses, and desserts. For example, they make Country Ham, which is aged over 90 days for a bold flavor, is brown sugar cured with the original recipe, and is available ready to cook – or fully cooked. You can enjoy in bone-in and boneless cuts! Here is the product list:
• Country Ham – Original + Attic Aged (aged 4-7 months or longer)
• Brine Cured & Hickory Smoked “City” Hams
• Dry Cured Bacon – Five Flavors (including Uncured Bacon)
• Dry Cured Pork Jowl
• BBQ Line – Pulled Pork, Beef Brisket, Pork Ribs and more
• Summer Sausage – Logs and Snack Sticks
• Ready to Heat – Beans N Ham products (three flavors)
• Pizza Toppings

Burger’s Smokehouse City Spiral Cut Ham:
The Hickory Smoked Spiral Sliced Ham is perfect to serve for any occasion, and is the most popular ham for a reason! And that’s because it’s moist and tender with a delicate accent of real hickory smoke. They take extra care in curing, cooking, and slicing each ham by hand. I actually have an AMAZING Easter recipe that a friend made years ago, and now I repurpose it with Burgers Smokehouse for Christmas. How did I do?
Christmas Day Delicious Stuffed Ham:
What You Need:
1 spiral sliced ham (we used Smithfield brand)
1/2 bag kale
Bag of dried cranberries – 6 oz
6.5 oz walnuts
1 lb Swiss cheese, shredded
1/2 lb Parmesan cheese, shredded/grated
6 oz honey
1/2 bag of glaze (reserve 1/2 to pour on ham while cooking)
1 tablespoon fresh coarse ground pepper
1 tablespoon garlic powder
What You Do:
1 – First, preheat oven to 275°F
2 – Place unwrapped ham in shallow roasting pan, flat side down
3 – Cover ham with foil and bake for approximately 15 minutes per pound
4 – Place refrigerated glaze packet under warm water for 1 minute until it’s softened
5 – Meanwhile, chop kale coarse to medium
6 – Then, chop walnuts medium
7 – Grate Swiss cheese and Parmesan, if not already grated
8 – Mix all ingredients in a bowl to mix evenly
9 – Add honey and 1/2 glaze packet last to bind ingredients
10 – Remove ham from oven 10-15 minutes before the end of warming time and carefully use utensils to turn it over
11 – Stuff mixture between each ham slice, making sure to push it all the way in
12 – Apply the last 1/2 of glaze packet evenly over ham surface and let it sit for 5-10 minutes
13 – Bake uncovered for the last 10-15 minutes, until cheese is melted
14 – You’ll know when it’s ready to serve, because it will fill your house with the most delicious smell, so enjoy!
