My late father was a teacher and he ate the same sandwich every day of his life. People would tease him about it but he never cared. And while I admire his dedication to his old standby favorite, personally I like to mix up my sandwich game a bit. I find it to be an art form – pairing different flavors together and hoping for the best. Or maybe you find a winning combination, and you like to try it two ways AND make your family test it out both ways to see which way is the winner.

Hillshire Farm® Thin Sliced Honey Ham is slow roasted for hours, to taste better than any other lunchmeat. This is the perfect way to add a touch of sweetness to your sandwich – with extra thin, extra tasty slices. It’s also double sealed for freshness, and contains no artificial flavors and no by-products. Hillshire Farm® tastes extra amazing with its counterparts!
Farmhouse Hearty White is SO GOOD when it’s fresh, it makes a highly flavorful toast, and it’s pretty excellent as a grilled cheese, as you’ll see. It’s hard to choose! Farmhouse Hearty White breads is a hearty and generous bread – started with a small batch recipe and a baker’s deliberate thoughtful care. They are slow baked with wholesome and flavorful ingredients for a fresh-from-the-oven taste! It’s exactly the kind of goodness you can expect from Pepperidge Farm®. Double-wrapped for freshness!
Hellman’s is America’s #1 mayonnaise and with reason – with its real, simple ingredients like eggs, oil and vinegar. Made with cage-free eggs. The unique squeeze bottle allows for a precise squeeze and is excellent for sandwich making! What you’ll see from my recipe, is that using Hellmann’s® Real Mayonnaise on the outside of your sandwich, in place of butter, makes a perfectly crispy grilled cheese sandwich. And if you’re not going the grilled route, I spread it between my sandwiches.
Now that the weather is slowly getting warmer, I don’t like to spend a lot of time preparing meals. That’s why I love sandwiches – for the nutritious way they provide my kids (and me) with a quick and tasty meal. It’s so much fun to turn this:
Ingredients
- 4 slices Pepperidge Farm Farmhouse™ Hearty White
- 4 ounces Hillshire Farm® Thin Sliced Honey Ham
- 4 slices swiss cheese
- 2 slices pineapple
- 2 Tbsp Hellmann's® Real Mayonnaise
- Mustard (optional)
Instructions
- Assemble sandwiches by alternating ham, cheese and pineapple layers
- Spread outside of bread with Hellmann's® Real Mayonnaise
- Cook grilled cheese sandwiches in a 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat, turning once
- They're done when they're golden brown and cheese is melted
- Enjoy!
Just look at it. Hawaiian Grilled Cheese:
This recipe has made a believer out of me. I used to be all about Team Fresh. It’s the tangy freshness of the ham, the cold and creamy mayonnaise, and the complete and utterly joyful fluffiness of the bread. I love my ingredients as is. Cassidy made me a believer, though. Together, we have found the magic of using mayonnaise instead of butter to cook regular old grilled cheese. When it’s Hawaiian Grilled Cheese with ham, swiss and pineapple, I admit I see his point! What do you think?
OR

Many people seem to prefer it grilled. That said, if you want to try it fresh, just use my recipe without cooking it! And spread the mayonnaise on the inside of the sandwich instead of the outside of the bread. I don’t think you can go wrong.
Sandwich girl here, too my twin. So definitely going to have to give this sandwich a try now. Thanks so much for giving me another sandwich alternative to give a try to 🙂
Of course! This one is so very summer.
Yep – I’m all for grilled and a pickle on the side.
mm.. I can’t eat any lunch without pickles!!
I am such a sandwich girl! Especially grilled ones 🙂 What a great and simple recipe!
Thank you! It’s easy! The grilled one has grown on me, though.
Can’t beat a good sandwich – especially paired with a favorite bag of chips and drink. Have a great weekend, Tamara!
My favorite summer lunch of all time! And a pickle.
That grilled cheese though!!!!! Oh my god, I love ham and pineapple together. Plus, grilled cheese is my #1 comfort food!
It’s pretty darn good. I like it with pickles and potato chips! Or to dip it in soup!
Weird thing about me – I cannot stand cooked fruit. Or even warm fruit, really. Long story. But other than the pineapple, the sandwich looks delicious :)!
I am SO LIKE you! I’m the only person I know who can’t stand apple pie. Warm fruits are NOT for me.
What a yummy looking sandwich! I love ham and pineapple 🙂
They really are made for each other!
Huh, I’ve never thought of using mayo instead of butter for grilling. I’m intrigued!
And I’m such a sandwich gal, especially if it’s grilled.
It is SO GOOD! Try it!!
Oh gosh, my mouth is WATERING! I love me a good hearty grilled sandwich and an enormous side of fries please! 🙂 (I’ll take the fruit on the side)
I hear that. And I want fries right now SO BADLY!
Grilled in the winter – fresh in the summer?! This looks delicious either way! #client
I’ve never had pineapples on a grilled cheese sandwich, but I would definitely like to try it now. This sandwich looks delicious ☺
Pineapples are strangely versatile! They’re one of the only fruits I like cooked.
