Sometimes we’d go our separate ways – into the smoky air, and roaming the streets of Mooney Mountain. Sometimes we’d go altogether, or as two and two, and my poor little sister with parents or grandparents. Sometimes we’d have fevers or colds and thick parkas over our costumes, and sometimes it would be warm enough to wear a Snow White dress with no jacket.

No matter when the night started, or how, and no matter how it went, we’d all five arrive back at home by Halloween “curfew”. Then we’d all gather in my bedroom, the largest and the most private, and we’d dump out our pillowcases of candy to have the biggest candy trade known to Mooney Mountain. It was fierce and fun, and often lasted an hour. Some siblings wanted the non-chocolate, and some wanted the peanut butter cups. It varied by ages and stages, but I can tell you that the rare gem of a BUTTERFINGER® would often be placed back into the pillowcase in a powerful message of, “NO TRADES.”

In the last few months, I have grown obsessed with BUTTERFINGER® Peanut Butter Cup Minis. I love candy in layers. I see them at Walmart often, so for the weekend I decided it was time to create a recipe for Halloween with them.

As you can probably tell, we have Halloween festivities on the brain. We’ll be doing downtown trick-or-treating for a couple of hours, then an outdoor birthday party, then a parade, and then neighborhood trick-or-treating. I’m actually tired just thinking about it, but also excited because I have the perfect snack/dessert to bring. I have always loved the classic five layer magic bar recipe – using graham cracker crumbs, butter, sweetened condensed milk and whatever toppings you want – but I decided they needed a little extra kick with BUTTERFINGER® Peanut Butter Cup Minis and assorted candy corn.

Whether you’re hosting a party, attending one, trick-or-treating or heading out to a special function – anywhere you need a sweet treat to bring – BUTTERFINGER® is the perfect Halloween solution for recipes and candy dishes.
Layer bars are very versatile, and most flavor combinations go well together with sweets, so I was confident that the peanut butter cup minis would be really good as a layer in the magic bars. I added the candy corn for a festive flair, and because both of my kids love candy corn. For me personally, the peanut butter cup minis were the star of the show. They added a really special element of flavor to the final result, with just enough crunch. I loved the consistency.
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
- 1 stick salted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup BUTTERFINGER® Peanut Butter Cup Minis
- 1 cup assorted candy corn mix
- 1 cup milk chocolate chips
- 1 cup shredded coconut (optional)
- 1 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350. Combine the graham cracker crumbs and melted butter in a bowl and stir. Press the mixture into the bottom of a 9-by-13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle BUTTERFINGER® Peanut Butter Cup Minis, chocolate chips and coconut on top. Pour the sweetened condensed milk over the mixture and bake for 25 minutes. Pull cookie bars out five minutes early and sprinkle with candy corn mixture. Put back into the oven for five minutes. Then cool completely and cut into bars.
Yup, I totally am going to have to try these now with the candy corn and Butterfingers I have in our house now, too!! 🙂
Oh good! I think all leftover Halloween candy would be great in these, come Sunday! When we have to change the clocks and cry about it. Boo!
We have trick or treated through blizzards and more, lol. Butterfinger is one of my favorites, so I will have to make these!
Yes! Four years ago, a freak blizzard hit. Shudder.
Butterfingers are pretty awesome.
Oh yes, I need these Stat!! How did you know I loved Butterfingers?? So where is your order button?
haha, I need one! Then people could order moose prints and purple pants and fresh baked cookies.
Genius, right?
Momma! That looks so good. I fear this could become a problem for me if I make this!
I’m usually pretty good with sweets.. I know.. it doesn’t seem like it, right?
These are really good, though. Really good.
Butterfinger cups are one of the best candies to come on the market in a long time. I could eat them all day!
Yes! They are so good. I like them better than just regular ones, or regular peanut butter cups. It’s like it becomes this super product.
My husband is crazy over Butterfingers! Like, CRAZY crazy. He does not share at all! I love your Halloween photos! I can’t remember doing trick or treating back when I was a kid. Tsk
Tsk indeed!
Well now you know what to do for your husband for the 11 years anniversary!
Layer bars are a Christmas tradition at my house…love the Halloween twist! Your trick or treating schedule definitely sounds exhausting. It’s hard to believe that the school festivities start in just a few hours or us!
And three of us are stone-cold sick. So I think Halloween will be a stretch this year, which is sad. I generally have much more stamina, though.
How can I get better before tomorrow??
Seriously, that looks soooo good Tamara! And I love your Halloween memories. Those were the days when we trick-or-treated with pillowcases 🙂
Right? I’m surprised people don’t do that anymore!
These look good. Making. Them. Soon. Thanks, Tamara!
Enjoy! They are completely delicious.
I love that you are still channeling Snow White after all these years! Butterfingers rock!
I think Snow White is one of my spirit animals! Although I’ll be Supergirl tomorrow! I’ll post photos!
OMG these magic bars are pretty much a combination of all of my favorite things. OM NOM NOM. I friggin heart Butterfingers SO MUCH. My neighbor was telling me this morning she’s already freaking out about all the candy the kids are going to bring in and she’s thinking of ways to steal it. What a grump. LOL.
These pictures of you and your siblings are way too friggin cute 🙂 XOXO and happy Halloween!!!
haha, your neighbor! Too funny.
Magic bars are so good. I love Butterfingers in things. It really makes me happy!
Butterfinger is tied in second place with Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups around here. Numero uno is the most excellent Crunchie bar! These bars look amazing…thanks for sharing!
Wow, those are some highly rated candy bars!
WOW! That is like….I mean how do you not inhale them!? Happy Halloween and thanks fo rthe amazing Butterfinger recipe!
I’m not sure how! They’re delicious but they’re lasting.
(Maybe it’s because I hid them on top of the fridge?)
How have I not heard of Butterfinger Peanut Butter Cups? I’m clearly not paying enough attention in the candy aisle. Getting some tomorrow. And your recipe looks delicious! Have a fun Halloween!
Oh, they are amazing!! You can get them wrapped as two near the cashiers, or you can buy the minis at Walmart.
That is so awesome!! Wish I can eat them now!! 😀 And looks like you’ve got a busy Haloween weekend. I’m supposed to go out but Reiko’s been sick and is still recovering. Hope you enjoy!
We’ve all been sick too! Ridiculously! And Cassidy and Des had to cut out of Halloween early because of it. Not cool. I think mine might be leaving, finally. It’s been a long week.
OK Tamara I’m going to make these. I don’t ever share my Butterfingers either no matter what or with whom. Those are one of my favorite but if I make these I will have to share. 🙂
It’s very hard to share them! Luckily now I can still hide my candy and no one finds it. I wonder how long I have to do that?
That looks like an amazing Halloween treat! Also, loving the costume pics 🙂
It is VERY fun to dig those up! I’m sure you know!
I’very never heard of those, but they sound yummy☺ I love the Ibotta app. Especially since they added rebates for non-brand items like produce.
Very cool about Ibotta! I totally agree.
My hubby loves Butterfingers! I will have to make him some of these.
They really are a timeless classic!
What a great idea. I can’t even tell you how many of those Butterfingers I ate before the trick or treaters showed up.
I went to my friend’s party and she was giving out the big Butterfinger cups and I ate a lot and she said it was ok because they had plenty of candy.
And.. they ran out later that night!
Oops.
Yummy. I love me some Butterfingers. I will have to try these this weekend.
Me too! I love the cups even more. I was so happy when they came out with them. YUM.
OMG…these sound amazing (except for the candy corn…lol)! I have actually never seen these Butterfingers in the store. Now I’m on the hunt!
ha! I don’t love candy corn either, but my family does. Maybe it skips a generation!
I should have never read this, butterfingers are the only candy bar I will steal from my kids.
I totally get it. And when I saw them in people’s candy dishes the other night, it was hard for ME not to dig in. Oops! For the kids.
I remember having the “no trades” candy when going trick or treating. Anything with peanut butter and chocolate was on my list! These magic bars look awesome!
Yup! I get that.
It’s funny how we did have different tastes, of course, but some candies were just prized treasures for all of us.
I love anything with peanut Butter. These sizes are perfect for on the go in my handbag and the car. Your treats look super yummy and I think they came out really great
Me too. Chocolate and peanut butter, and also those things apart. I’m not picky!
Thanks about the treats! They were really tasty.
Those bars look delicious. I prefer a Butterfinger to a Reese’s any day! I have a bunch of candy and only very little people to eat them.
I really do too! And I vastly prefer the Butterfinger Peanut Butter Cups to other peanut butter cups. They just have more dimension.
I just have to try those Butterfinger Peanut Butter Cup minis. Those bars look like perfect Halloween treats too!
They’re so good! I like to hide bags of them in my desk drawer but now my kids are on to my plan. Boo.
I like the way you used the candy to make another treat. It looks like a good snack for all year long.
It always comes in handy this time of year because we have extra Halloween candy to get rid of, and this is a good way!
These magic bars look so tasty. I love the added candy corn, and I love the costume too!
My kids are so crazy for candy corn so I just had to put them in there!
Well I already had a sweet tooth when I came. 😉 I’m going to go see if there’s a Butterfinger in the Halloween candy. 🙂
I hope you struck gold! I looked too and didn’t see any here.
I am sorry I think I just died and went to heaven. Three of my favorites in one delicious dessert!
I’m so glad you love it! I really had fun choosing my own fixings for the bars.
These look really tasty. I love Butterfinger Candy Bars – I am sure I could eat the whole pan.
