And for many reasons. Like how it used to be a traumatic time for me, and then turned into a happy one for many years. Then I didn’t notice it much in my 20s, I imagine, and then it was a little traumatic again – because of sending kids to school and it reminding me of my own troubles with that – but now it’s happy again. It’s because I channel my back to school season anxiety into some real organizational fun. I’m talking lists, sticky notes, happy kids, happy me. I’m proud to be partnering with Member’s Mark Brand 2-ply Facial Tissue for this post!
Getting the Home Ready for Back to School Season:
Check Your Clothing and Shoes Inventory
In fact, we did this last night! First, we check to see what our kids already have in terms of clothes, shoes and accessories. Then, we get rid of anything worn out, too small, with holes, or stained. Lastly, we make a list of exactly what they need and stick to that list. About a week before the first day, we wash everything that needs to be washed and make it easy to access.
Check Your School Supplies Inventory
First, we check to see what the kids already have and get rid of anything broken or worn out. Then we make a list and check it twice of exactly what they need. We check to see if the school has provided a list over summer, although sometimes we get that list after school has already started. Either way, there are school supplies essentials that the kids walk into the first day of school with, always. We make a defined list and head to Sam’s Club to be ready for the first day.
Clean out the Communal House Closets
We have to pitch in daily with clutter. Still, the front hallway and front hall closets become dumping grounds for everything. If you have a hallway, mudroom, or closet that everyone uses, invest in hooks for jackets and backpacks, and special spaces for shoes, winter clothes, sports gear, etc. If you build it – a special place for everything – they will generally use it.
Get a Family Calendar
It’s that looming project of a dry erase board for our kitchen. This is the year to make one! I grew up in a family of seven, and we had a marker board master calendar. It was crucial to our organization, and is the best way to keep track of everyone’s activities, events, parties, appointments, etc. You can also add shopping lists, to-do lists and other sections. When the week is over, you erase it and move on. For us, a 12-month color-coded calendar works best.
Have your homework and packing lunch “zones”
As the kids get older I realize how important it is for them to have study areas. If you don’t have a desk, it helps to have a special spot – without a television nearby – that is well-lit, and has clean flat space, and has bins stocked with supplies. And as for lunch and snacks, making sure both kids have nutritious meals is a big job! We keep dedicated spots in the fridge and pantry for lunch supplies. Some use plastic storage drawers. Some use labels. The internet has many great ideas! As the kids get older, maybe they’ll have some good ideas to help with lunches too!
Stock up on essentials at Sam’s Club
And lastly, I’m a working mom and my life is about finding balance! That’s why I head to Sam’s Club during this back to school season and I stock up on Member’s Mark Brand 2-ply Facial Tissue. It’s sold exclusively at Sam’s Club and SamsClub.com, and we love keeping a box in every room of the house, as well as the car. This just makes life easier! Member’s Mark Brand 2-ply Facial Tissue has 2-ply Softness and Quality for everyday care, and the 2-ply Gentle Strength is perfect for multi-purpose tissue needs. And we especially love that the box designs complement our home decor! As a photographer, I’m all about colors and accent colors.
Did I mention that they’re hypoallergenic, and free from ink, perfume, lotion and fragrance? This is super important for us because we have two kids and both dogs and cats, and love having access to that gentle strength in every room! It always comes in handy.
The trusted Member’s Mark brand has quality and superior value and is backed by Sam’s Club Member satisfaction guarantee. I love the perks of membership. We use Scan & Go. This means we scan items as we shop, and then can pay from our phones and skip the checkout lines! Another perk of Scan & Go is that your frequently ordered items are displayed on the homepage, so you can easily reorder your essentials. Also, you can check-in for Club Pickup orders when you’re on your way to Sam’s Club, and your order will be ready when you arrive!
Don’t forget to check them out online for everyday free shipping! Did I mention that plus members with an active membership get free shipping on eligible items, with no minimum purchase? And club members with an active membership (and their guests) may be eligible for free shipping on a limited assortment on items that are marked accordingly.
