I have been known to have trouble sleeping the night before, because I can’t wait to eat breakfast the next morning. I have been known to make breakfast dates with friends who have initially asked for drinks dates, coffee dates, lunch dates or dinner dates. It’s just.. breakfast. This is my flow time. This is my happy time. It’s when I’m most creative.
With the new year just underway, I’m more focused than ever on starting 2017 off on a healthy note. As per usual, my goals are on bettering myself physically, mentally and emotionally, and on staying healthy with the help of Sweet Earth Natural Foods products. Cassidy and I used to make burritos during the early parts of our marriage. We’d throw anything on that our hearts desired, and that expanded later when I was pregnant. Sometimes it was carrots. Sometimes it was peppers.
I learned how to eat quinoa by living in San Francisco. Now that we’re parents and we’re in the middle of the frigid and endless months of a New England winter, I need a little more substance in my breakfasts lately. I need a kick to start my day. I generally need lots of protein and even more flavor. During this past weekend’s taste test, I found something new.
Over the weekend, I went on a Functional Breakfast Burritos shopping spree – partly at Stop & Shop – and mostly at Whole Foods, I did not come up empty-handed. Not one to miss out on a single good thing, I got four flavors from Sweet Earth Natural Foods: Get Focused!, Protein Lover’s, Get Cultured!, and Lighten Up! What inspired their functional burritos? Form following function. The burritos are filled with vegetables, complex grains, omega-3, probiotics, fiber, and tons of protein.
Sweet Earth Natural Foods make healthy foods, without compromising flavor. These easy-to-eat burritos are so much fun to discover, that Cassidy and Des happily helped me when I taste-tested all four flavors.
Get Cultured! – This one intrigued Cassidy the most. It’s a probiotic, vegan, Korean-inspired breakfast burrito, filled with – tofu, cabbage, carrots, spinach, fermented red pepper, edamame, and ginger. There are 12 grams of protein and 8 grams of fiber. Intriguing, right? It was a little spicy, but not too much for me. I love the edamame! I think I have an obsession with fermented foods. I also love tofu. Would I buy it? Yes. Cassidy’s reaction was simple, but perfect: “I like it!”
Get Focused! This one was my most anticipated one, because I’m totally an eggs and cheese girl. This burrito also has rosemary, flaxseed, kale, peas, smoked gouda, and meatless Tuscan Grounds. There are 18 grams of protein, 7 grams of fiber, and omega-3! It’s a favorite. I LOVE the eggs. This is totally my thing. There’s a slight fennel taste too.
Lighten Up – Lighten Up has only 190 calories, 10 grams of protein, and 7 grams of fiber. It has seasoned tofu, homemade salsa verde, spinach, black eyed peas, brown rice, and red bell peppers. The smell of the homemade salsa verde and the red bell peppers is instant! Des liked this one best. So if you are keeping score, Cassidy liked Get Cultured Best!, I liked Get Focused! best, and Des liked Lighten Up best. It has a nice traditional favor, and I bet it’s a favorite to many people. I LOVE the black eyed peas! I’m not a cilantro person, and it’s in there, but it doesn’t overwhelm at all. Also available in a 3-pack!
Protein Lover’s – This functional breakfast burrito contains Sweet Earth Natural Food’s Vegan Benevolent Bacon.
The smoky smell and taste is instant! This burrito is protein-packed with scrambled egg whites, quinoa, kale, garlic, meatless Tuscan Grounds, the Benevolent Bacon, and cheddar cheese. It has a whopping 20 grams of protein, 5 grams of fiber, and is high in vitamins B1, B2, and C. I loved the quinoa – such a great texture! Also, this one is available in 3-packs.
Talk about healthy, convenient, and flavorful foods for your New Year’s Resolutions! I found my burritos at my local co-op, at Stop & Shop in the organic frozen section, and at Whole Foods. Find your local Sweet Earth Foods with THIS LINK.
Yessss! As you know, I’m searching for quick, healthy, and easy options to make AT HOME (cause we’ve seriously gone out of control with the delivery!;-) Will totally look for these in the store, thanks Tamara!
I would TOTALLY go out of control with delivery if I were you! I think at SF, we once found a service that would deliver ANYTHING you asked. I asked for a pint of ice cream, and surely paid a lot for it!
Holy shizzle! These look freaking’ amazing. Gonna buy them as soon as I spot them at the store. I’ll clear out the entire freezer of product and not leave any for the next customer (I’ve done that before with other stuff. heheheee)
HA! I nearly did that but our Whole Foods had a TON. So check there first, I’d think.
woop! woop! I can by these at Target. BOOM!
aha! I spoke too soon! Good on you!
The bacon one looks amazing! I love breakfast too. I would eat it all day if I could.
Honestly, I often do. We have bacon and eggs and hash browns and cheese in the house? Breakfast, lunch and dinner!
Entered! You have such pretty eyes.
Thank you! Scarlet’s are like mine, but a bit darker. We both get upset when people call us brown-eyed! Hazel!
Hazel eyes are my favorite.
Hugs to you for that!!
I could totally try any of these, but once again twins as egg and cheese would probably be the one I would want first and foremost! Entered and seriously you rock for this giveaway!! 🙂
Yup! Because we’re twins and that’s my favorite!
Ohh wow. I definitely love burritos but I don’t get to eat it often here. This is such a convenient and fantastic way to have breakfast for sure. I know I love tofu. I had to google edamame though, looks pretty much like string beans.
I love tofu too! It’s rare for a non-vegetarian to love it.
Edamame is like soybeans. I think they ARE soybeans, but maybe prepared a certain way?
We love breakfast burritos in our house and nothing can beat their convenience. That Korean-inspired burrito sounds good. Will have to look for these and try them out.
mmm.. it’s really good! That was Cassidy’s favorite. I think it might be mine too because the eggs one rocks but I don’t like fennel, which is in there.
We love breakfast burritos. I’ve never heard of this brand though but the choices looks amazing. Know who would love these? My eldest daughter who’s a vegetarian. I’m going to share this with her and I’m entering as well. Thank you!
Aw, I hope she loves them! They’re really good and filling in the morning.
Those burritos look so good, and Get Cultured! sounds intriguing 🙂
That one is really good! I’m intrigued by all fermented foods and their impacts.
Sam’s totally into fermented food, I’m sure he’d love the first one. And I’ve been known to have trouble falling sleep, too, due to the anticipation of breakfast the next morning. Hands down, my favorite meal of the day!
Cassidy is too! Apparently, fermented food is a real thing. And supposedly awesome for you! The Get Cultured! is a good one.
I’m right there with you Tamara; I’m a breakfast enthusiast also. I’ve never heard of Sweet Earth Natural Food Products, but I live a few hours form Pacific Grove where it’s manufactured, very cool. I hope I win!!!! They all look so healthy and tasty, perfect way to jump start 2017
Oh, that’s cool! I’d totally visit their headquarters if I could. I’m California-dreamin’.. on this snow day!
Thanks for bringing this product to my attention. I am always looking for more breakfast options!
No worries! Now I notice it everywhere. Our Stop & Shop has them in the organic freezer section, I noticed today.
Um, why yes, I do believe these look fantastic! I love my cereal, but a change up like this would indeed be very welcome 🙂 Yum!
Oh yes – I like them WITH my cereal. Rebel.
Can you believe I haven’t tried these yet? I went to Whole Foods earlier for “just a few things” but then my hand basket got heavy and I couldn’t find these anywhere 🙁 will have to look again. I want to try these because breakfast is my thing too and I always skip!! I know. I’m really the worst 🙂
XOXO
No, I really can’t believe it, Charlotte! It’s time to try them!!
I’m not a breakfast person, but I know I need to eat it, so I usually have a hard boiled egg and a protein shake every morning. These look good though – I’ll have to check them out.
Ooh, nice! I’ve gotten into hard-boiled eggs. I like them with mustard. Des loved them for a spell, but now he doesn’t, so I eat them!
this looks super yummy! I am always looking for a breakfast on the go option!!
All of these look amazing, but I would try get focused first.
That’s a really, really, really good one!
Thank you! Scarlet’s are like mine, but a bit darker. We both get upset when people call us brown-eyed! Hazel!
