I never knew I’d be someone who has a favorite summer shirt. I sort of followed in the footsteps of my mom – an artist/art teacher – as someone who often has paint and/or glue all over her clothes. And doesn’t care! I also have two children, who are past toddler-age and even pretty self-contained in their comings and goings, but I’m still and will always be a hands-on mom. My daughter spilled a smoothie down the front of my shirt yesterday. I sat in half-melted chocolate chips last week.
I’m talking crisp linen and lace – in the kind of light blue you only ever see in nature or in fairy tales. I’m talking little metal buttons I keep track of, and even sew back on if they get too loose. The thing is, this is a shirt I care about. Even as an adult, there are play clothes and there are nice clothes.
