How do you express your “Inner Pop”? The kids and I have been getting into Dole Fruitocracy. Dole Fruitocracy thinks that snacks should be made to be authentic and unique, just like you, and that it’s what’s inside that matters most. Their fruit pouches are made from straight-up, delicious and all-natural fruit. “Straight Up Fruit, Straight Up You.”
If I had to think about what I know now about expressing myself and what I wish I knew growing up, I wish I knew how ok it was to be ME! My kids are encouraged to pick out their own clothes, activities, passions and all of the things that make them.. them. I remember being really concerned with what other people thought of me as a kid, and even as an adult. I’ve learned such a freedom in expressing myself through writing, photography and all the nerdy science fiction things I’ve always loved!
When I was a little kid, I wrote a poem for Highlights Magazine. My mom encouraged me to write it, and she had her friend – a real writer/editor – look at it for me before I sent it. I loved that they let me express myself.
Another thing we loved to do as kids was to dress up and play Dance Party games. We’d choose the songs (on our boombox) and then take turns dancing our hearts out for the whole duration of the song! It was fun and memorable.
One thing my older sister and I loved was to play pranks on our younger siblings. One day we thought it would be completely hilarious to dress up in full costumes (it was spring and not Halloween) and to run onto the elementary school bus when my baby sister came home. Sure enough we did that, completely prepared to embarrass her, but the joke was on us. She wasn’t embarrassed at all! She loudly said, “You’re only embarrassing yourself!” I loved her confidence at a young age.

I want my daughter to express her inner pop throughout her whole life. I love her big spirit and sense of humor. I love many things about her so I made two videos – one of me giving her advice, and one of her being adorable:
I love to take the extra steps to let my kids express themselves. When I was a kid, I loved watching Nickelodeon. When I was a preteen and a teenager I did too! Now I love watching shows with my daughter on Nickelodeon, like Make It Pop – Season 1. My daughter most relates to the character, Sun Hi, because she never gives up on her dreams. And she has some pretty amazing hair too! I’m a fan of the character, Corki! I love curling up with Fruitocracy and watching Make It Pop with Scarlet.
Now how would you like a chance to win a trip to LA to attend the taping of a Nickelodeon show? Fruitocracy has teamed up with Nickelodeon and their show “Make It Pop.” They will give one lucky family the chance to go to Los Angeles and attend a taping. You can go HERE to enter. Good luck!
