She got it as a Christmas gift a few years back and I remember how much fun it was to read it together during our annual Florida trip that January. As long as we get some days to read in the warm sun, or in warm porches, we’re happy. It’s one of our mother/daughter bonding activities.
We were both so excited when we heard about Good Night Stories For Rebel Girls VOL 2. Then it came and it is beautiful! I find that I learn so much from these books as well. There are so many extraordinary women to read about! I can’t help but be thrilled to watch Scarlet take it all in.
7 Ways to Encourage Your Daughter to Pursue Greatness:
1 – Model strength for her. Cassidy and I model our individual selves as strong, as well our partnership. It’s not perfect but we’re trying. We do chores together. We take the trash out together. And we have systems in place for a good life. Our daughter is watching and we want her to be inspired by what she sees.
2 – Teach them kindness, charity, good deeds. Scarlet likes to pay for cars behind us at the drive-through. She also helps us gather toys/games/clothes and more for the local women’s shelter, as well as personal care products for our survival center in town.
3 – Help your daughter develop a positive, but realistic self-image. When your kids make a drawing, instead of saying it’s the best drawing in the world, focus more on the efforts they put into their creation, and how they persevered through obstacles. Be specific in your praise.
4 – Teach your daughter that her uniqueness is her superhero power. It’s important that kids know from a young age that what makes them different, makes them special, and is an asset. Encourage her to take pride in it, and to never stop dreaming.
This is one of my favorite ones!
5 – Make your home a safe, comforting and relaxing place. Remove drama, frustration, and chaos whenever possible. Add structure and consistency. Get rid of excess in their bedrooms, and playrooms too. Have routines in place – like bedtime routines for reading.
6 – Don’t overbook your daughter’s schedule. It’s important that she has time to be just that – a kid. Respect her wishes for downtime, and make it part of your routine. Encourage activities that encourage relaxation and imagination – free play, yoga, building, etc.
7 – Schedule time to be together with books. Books are pretty much everything to us. They are imagination and freedom and bonding. They’re part of both routine and free play. They’re what wind us down before bed, but they also have the ability to wind and stir us up as well!
It’s important for me that both my daughter and my son learn stories of extraordinary women. I think it’s awesome that Scarlet really retains the knowledge she gleans from these books. She’ll tell me things she read in Good Night Stories For Rebel Girls (first volume) over two years ago! It’s the perfect way to put the day to bed. It’s important to have a structured and well-rounded nighttime routine. And this is such a positive activity to add to your nighttime routine that both parents and children can get excited about! It’s a favorite part of the day.
Good Night Stories For Rebel Girls infuses our bedtime routine with positive vibes, because they are bedtime stories with a purpose. And it’s the perfect way to share TRUE stories about inspiring and REAL women with Scarlet. This makes our bedtime stories a lesson in empowerment.
