It’s more than that, though, It’s High Tea – a perfect tea party luncheon. I had as much fun planning this as I have watching Downton Abbey, in fact! And really, if you’re throwing a party like this, you should probably dress up. I like nothing more than to dress up, eat tea sandwiches, and watch a good movie. I mean – all the characters you know and love back together again!
Lady Violet Crawley, people!! Anna Bates! Daisy Mason! Earl of Grantham! We love that this Downton Abbey DVD is an expansion from the series. Ahh, this movie completes me. I can’t explain how much I loved this movie, but if you loved the show, maybe you can understand what it’s like to see this movie nearly four years after the end of the series. So get out your fine tea set, your tea sandwich ingredients, and your scones, so you can prepare a tea party fit for royalty! Just like the royal visit from the King and Queen of England in the Downton Abbey DVD!
Downton Abbey Tea Party Luncheon Perfection:
- Linen tablecloth
- Paper doilies, to fancy it all up
- Scones, of your flavor choosing
- Tea, of course
- Tea Sandwiches, with white bread, and crusts removed
- Downton Abbey DVD from Walmart
The Cucumber Tea Sandwich:
What You Need:
8 slices of white bread
4 tablespoons herb cream cheese, softened
1 small English cucumber, sliced thin
What You Do:
1 – First, use a bread knife to remove the crust from the white bread, discard crusts, and then set aside.
2 – Then, spread a thin layer of herb cream cheese on one slice of bread.
3 – Top with cucumbers, overlapping a bit.
4 – Then, spread cream cheese on a second slice of bread and place on top of the cucumbers.
5 – Cut sandwich into a triangle and cut each triangle into smaller triangles.
*Note: If you don’t put cream cheese on both sides of the bread, the bread will not stack as shown, because one of the pieces of bread will fall off. You need the cream cheese to help “stick” the sandwich together. Repeat until you have 4 whole sandwiches made, or 16 small triangles.
Scones, of course:
Whether you go homemade or store-bought, you can’t have a high tea party luncheon without scones! Personally, I like mine with glaze and chocolate chips, but anything goes for you!
The Ham and Egg Tea Sandwich:
Egg salad is delicious, but adding ham takes it to a whole new level/over the top!
What You Need:
8 slices white bread
2 hard boiled eggs
2 slices, ham (sliced thin like lunch meat)
1/4 cup real mayonnaise
1 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard
Salt and pepper
Fresh spinach or lettuce
What You Do:
1 – Use a bread knife to remove the crust from the white bread, discard crusts, and then set aside.
2 – Use an egg slicer to cut the eggs into small pieces. Add eggs to a mixing bowl with ham, mayonnaise and mustard. Mix well. Season with salt and pepper.
3 – Spread a layer of egg and ham onto a slice of bread, and top with spinach.
4 – Add a piece of bread on top to make a sandwich. Repeat until you have 4 sandwiches.
5 – Slice each sandwich into halves and serve.
And there you have it! All the makings of the perfect tea party luncheon. It’s hard to pick a favorite dish of the bunch – scones, egg and ham tea sandwiches, and cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches. One thing we can agree on is the perfect movie for such a tea party!
