It smells like childhood, and even better, early babyhood. I remember painstakingly washing all of my daughter’s clothes in Dreft, after I received tons of cute outfits at my baby shower. With my son, I collected clothes over time – hand picking special items, and gathering hand-me-downs. When it was about three weeks before his due date, my mom was visiting and said, “Hey! This baby is coming. Time to get ready for him!” And that’s when I finally kicked into high gear and washed all of his adorable rockstar and baseball pajamas. Rainbow striped pajamas and graphic tees. I had no idea what to expect with a son, since I was used to my toddler daughter being an only child, but at least his clothes were thoroughly and gently cleaned.
Dreft is hypoallergenic and gentle on baby’s skin. With spring here (or sort of coming?), temperatures are on the rise after a long winter indoors. Kids and parents are spending more time outside. While this is an awesome development after a New England winter, spring brings more allergens to the air, AND rising temperatures can trigger skin irritations for little ones. I remember while I was pregnant with my first, seeking out the best products for my baby’s skin. That’s when I found Dreft.

When you clean your child’s clothes with Dreft, a gentle, hypoallergenic product, it’s a great way to keep your little one(s) comfortable during the spring season. Dreft is the No. 1 baby laundry detergent choice by Pediatricians, for being gentle and hypoallergenic on a baby’s skin. Dreft has been trusted for over 80 years, and comes with a familiar baby scent, beloved by parents, while still remaining safe and hypoallergenic for your baby. Dr. Dyan Hes, MD is the Medical Director of Gramercy Pediatrics and was recently named a 2013 top doctor by New York magazine! Dr. Hes sits on the board of the American Board of Obesity Medicine, and is double boarded in both pediatrics and obesity medicine. She practices both primary care and obesity medicine, and was named one of New York’s top doctors of 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 by Castle and Connolly. Here are some wonderful tips from Dr. Dyan Hes, MD:

- Shade the sun: The long awaited spring season means increased outdoor time for parents and their babies. When heading outside, don’t forget to practice appropriate baby skin safety. For babies 6 months or older: If your baby is 6 months or older, liberally use sunscreen. Also, avoid exposing your baby to the sun during peak hours —generally 10 a.m. to 4p.m. — and dress your baby in protective clothing, a hat with a brim and sunglasses.
For babies younger than 6 months: If your baby is younger than 6 months, keep him or her out of direct sunlight. Protect your baby from sun exposure by dressing him or her in protective clothing, a hat with a brim, and sunglasses.
- Make bath-time beneficial: Over exposure to water can actually rob skin of natural moisture. Scaling back on tub time will help avoid resulting itch — about 10 minutes is plenty of time for water play and a quick scrub. Use warm water (vs. hot) and leave the suds to the very end. Use a mild cleanser to keep skin soft and itch-free. Gently pat skin dry and end with an after-bath moisturizer to seal in moisture and protect baby’s soft skin.
- Choose the right fabrics and care for them properly: When it comes to fabrics,it’s extremely important to seek out gentle and hypoallergenic items to care for the items that touch baby’s sensitive skin. It’s also essential that fabrics be cared for properly. Wash baby’s items with a specially-formulated product such as Dreft, the #1 baby laundry detergent choice of pediatricians to be gentle and hypoallergenic on baby’s skin. Trusted for over 80 years, Dreft comes with a babyhood scent beloved by moms, and it remains safe and hypoallergenic for baby.
