When you’ve found the person that you want to spend your life with, the next step is to propose. Proposing to someone can be extremely nerve-wracking, even if you know that you are both on the same page. The proposal is something that you have to take the time to plan so that it is memorable, and it can be challenging to come up with different ideas. There are so many options that you can choose from. You could choose a small intimate proposal or a big proposal in front of all of your friends.
One of the more thoughtful and less expensive methods of organizing a proposal is going down the DIY route. It can still be amazing and special without the price tag of a fancy restaurant or a holiday abroad. This way, you might even be able to get your children or friends involved! Below are some ideas for a DIY proposal:
Create a scrapbook of memories
A scrapbook proposal could be a great idea because it allows you to gather all of your memories and photographs from your relationship so far and put them together. When you give it to your partner, you can relive your memories together, but leave a blank space for a photo of the moment when you propose, with ‘will you marry me?’ written below.
If you don’t want to put the photos into a scrapbook, you could hang them up around your home and get your partner to walk around with you.
If you like to write or want to give it a try, you could try and write a story or a poem about your time together. You could include some inside jokes, or maybe even some commentary on how you were feeling at the time. The end of your story or poem could then be the proposal.
Craft a box
If you have children and want to get them involved, you could get them to help you craft a DIY family valentine’s day mailbox or any other type of box. You could get them to make cards or little trinkets to put in it, and you can add things that are special to both of you. It will be cute and thoughtful.
Film a video
You don’t need to be an expert video producer to film a video for your partner. Maybe you could take them on a journey of all the places you have been together and tell your version of the stories you had shared there. It may also be a chance to get your friends involved by asking them to film a clip about the two of you. When you have finished it, you could set up at home like it is a normal movie night, but then show the video instead!
Don’t forget the ring
Even with all this DIY fun, you still need to find the perfect engagement ring. Try to think about the taste and style of your partner, and keep in mind that it is intended to be worn every day. However, try not to feel too much pressure, because whatever you choose, the ring will be special.
