It’s been a long journey of having and keeping long brown hair – even before I started to have gray hair in my mid-20s. I’m proud to be partnering with Zotos AGEbeautiful to share how I’ve maintained the dark brown hair I’ve had and loved since birth! This is a story of hair love.
In fact, everything looks different in different lighting. As a photographer, this both challenges and frustrates me. Although if you use a location enough, at various times of the day, you’ll get used to the kind of light you need for a shoot. It’s harder for me when I’m not doing photography. I get sensitive to these small changes. My hair started getting grey in my 20s but that wasn’t in the problem. I favor my hair to be super long so the ends are always lighter than the roots. Sometimes it gives a three tone effect. And some color can leave me red in the sun.
Maintaining the Dark Brown Hair Color I Love:
Here’s my why:
I have had blond and grey hairs under the top layer of my hair for as long as I can remember. (luckily not visible) I’ve kept my hair super long for over a decade, and the hair on the ends has gotten lighter over time, and with sun exposure. A not-nice, two-tone sort of thing. I was sick of it. I was ready for something new for spring. I’m in my 30’s and I’ve always had thick and glossy hair. I thought it would break my heart to get it colored, but the experience was anything but heart-breaking. It was.fun. My natural highlights remain, but I am able to put my hair up again, without people seeing all the grey, blond and light brown underneath. My favorite thing!
And here’s my how:
As you know, I’ve been using Zotos AGEbeautiful for about six months. I started that journey in February and had no idea it would be easy to color my hair at home, and that this would be the ticket to maintaining my dark hair color ALL THROUGH my hair, and not just in some of it!
What I got:
- AGEbeautiful Anti-Aging Haircolor in 3N
- AGEbeautiful Root Touch Up Spray in Darkest Brown
- Mixing Comb
- AGEbeautiful Developer in 20
That’s everything I need, not only to cover the grey under my top layer of hair, but to make my hair all one color – my natural dark brown hair. You see, everything changes as we age, including our hair. It can lose volume, manageability (especially with coarser greys), color, moisture, and its shine. This is the FIRST professional haircolor to fight all five of these signs!
Why you’ll love AGEbeautiful:
It’s available at Sally Beauty and replenishes hair with anti-aging ingredients: melanin, keratin peptide, and silk protein. It has a patented conditioning technology, so that your hair instantly feels fuller, silkier, and radiates with shine. Find that color that reflects your inner youth and vibrance! Plus, the Root Touch Up Spray sprays away the gray with temporary haircolor that quickly and easily conceals gray roots in seconds. It’s water, sweat, and stain resistant and a little goes a long way. You can layer on the product for darker results! Plus it smells good!
Tips on keeping your color looking fabulous!
- Of course, get quality products like AGEbeautiful from Sally Beauty.
Treat your hair like you would treat your skin! Cover it up from UV rays. If you’re going to be outside for a long period of time, you can wear a sun hat, or look for leave-in treatments by your favorite brand with UV absorbers that filter out the rays.
Avoid getting chlorine on color-treated hair! If you do spend a lot of time in the pool, wet your hair and apply a protective leave-in conditioner first. The chemicals in chlorine can add buildup to hair color and change it. You can also wear a swim cap. On that note, wear a shower cap in the shower on days you aren’t shampooing, because wet hair can cause some color to fade, chlorine or not. When you ARE washing your hair, the colder the water, the more the color sticks to your hair.
Vitamins and supplements can help with the health of your color-treated hair. As always, eat a diet rich in Vitamin C to keep blood vessels in the scalp healthy, and eat Biotin (found in salmon, carrots, egg yolks, sardines) to improve hair strength and texture. You can also take supplements when you are lacking vitamins in your diet.
So, do you have any tips for maintaining your hair color?
