Cozy Comforts For Your Canine: Creating A Dog Safe Zone

A healthy dog is a happy dog, but a comfortable dog is an even happier one. When we’ve got to leave a dog home alone it can be very hard on us but we’ve got to remember that they can handle short periods of alone time fine. And when you have the space in the home, it’s important to create something that keeps them entertained and comfortable for those periods of time that you are out. What can you do to create a dog safe zone that they will love and will give you peace of mind?

Their Creature Comforts

Making sure that the dog bowls are full of water and food is one thing but also remember that comfort is about a nice relaxing bed. Dogs sleep for half of the day so make the bed is the focal point. If you are fed up of them jumping on the couch to have a nap, investing in a water-resistant dog orthopedic bed can help them as they get older. Put a blanket down to add an extra layer of comfort. But if you are going away for a while, perhaps think about giving them one of your old t-shirts. The smell of you will be a nice sensory reminder.

Providing Soothing Sensations

If you are out all day giving them some entertainment and simulation is crucial. If you live in an area with a lot of external noise you could invest in a sound machine to mask the problem. Even if you don’t have the money to invest in a proper sound system you can tune an old radio to static. The white noise is incredibly relaxing and can help your dog to calm down.

Make Sure It’s A Safe Area

If you have got an older dog that is well trained you won’t need to do much, but for younger dogs that are into everything you’ve got to make sure that the environment isn’t a disaster zone. If you have electrical cords lying around, make sure they are taped down or hidden behind furniture. Make sure that cleaning materials and food are hidden or behind locked cabinet doors. And if the dog zone is in the kitchen you may want to think twice about having trash cans nearby. You can replace the with dog proof trash cans if necessary.

Still Don’t Have Peace Of Mind?

If you worry about your dog you might want to think about investing in a basic webcam which gives you the perfect opportunity to see what your pet is doing while you’re away. They don’t cost too much, but there are dog cameras available which have two-way audio so you can communicate with them if you need to!

A dog-friendly zone doesn’t have to be massive. Remember, dogs prefer smaller spaces so they can feel comfortable. So you don’t necessarily need to set it up somewhere where there’s a lot of space. If you’ve got a little cloakroom that you don’t use, this is the perfect opportunity to put a dog bed down and some creature comforts.
