My family gave me, perhaps, the most amazing birthday present ever. A little background for you. My birthday is July 25th. I love advent calendars. I surprise my three family members with advent calendars every December 1st. My family was acting a little shifty in late June but I was honestly so tired by pregnancy and life that I would often fall asleep and hear them tinkering in the garage, but think nothing of it. Then it was July 1st! I woke up to a sign to go into the kitchen. And there, my family had built me a gigantic, life-sized advent calendar – full of compartments, secret compartments, drawers, cupboards, treasure chests, windows, doors, and more. So magical! So I guess you could say I REALLY love to celebrate Christmas in the summer.
How I Celebrate Christmas in the Summer:
It’s not just floor-to-ceiling sized advent calendars, oh no. It’s not just shopping early, watching holiday movies in July, and dreaming about sleighs and snow. I think it’s about the feelings of the holidays, but in summer. I love summer – I don’t want it to move too fast! That said, there’s a coziness about summer as well. That’s why this is the perfect marriage of sun and Santa. There’s nothing like creating an atmosphere of Christmas in August, though! And I’m doing that with Harlequin! It was founded in 1949 with over 70 years of success as a leading publisher of books for women. Harlequin offers a broad range of reading in many genres, with many bestsellers.
The Christmas Sisters by Sarah Morgan:
The Christmas Sisters takes place in the snowy Highlands of Scotland, where Suzanne McBride dreams of her perfect Christmas. Tensions are running high with three adopted daughters home for the holidays, each with their own stories! Hannah can’t avoid spending the holidays with her family two years in a row, Beth is having her own personal crisis, and Posy needs a change, but it seems risky. Will the magic of Christmas bring everyone together? And how about a little romance, huh? You’re going to laugh and love it! Find out more here.
A Virgin River Christmas by Robyn Carr:
A Virgin River Christmas is an uplifting tale from a New York Times bestselling author! Marcie Sullivan said a final goodbye to her husband, Bobby, last Christmas. This Christmas? She heads to Virgin River to find Bobby’s fellow marine, Ian. And what will they find in each other? This is a wonderful story about love and redemption, and you can watch the Virgin River show on Netflix!
Marry Me at Christmas by Susan Mallery:
What do you need to know about Marry Me at Christmas? Why, Christmas weddings, small-town charm, and love, of course. This book has it all. Bridal boutique owner Madeline is organizing a Christmas wedding, and working closely with the gorgeous brother of the bride, movie star Jonny Blaze. Woohoo! Sounds like a movie plot to me. And I’m sure it will have some movie-like romance for your Christmas in August! Find out more about Susan Mallery here.
Season of Wonder by RaeAnne Thayne:
Season of Wonder is all about Dani Capelli, who never truly belonged anywhere. She was pregnant and married by graduation, and then divorced, two daughters later. So when she gets an out-of-town pass to take over a veterinary practice, what will change in her life? Probably, everything! And of course, there will be romance. This is a heartwarming story of a chance at second love. Plus, it has a charming mountain town! Read more about RaeAnne Thayne here.
Christmas in Icicle Falls by Sheila Roberts:
In Christmas in Icicle Falls, Muriel Sterling is the queen of Christmas, determined to make a project out of an ugly tree she thought would be her perfect Christmas tree. There’s a lesson here! And there’s a love story here as well. The best news is that in this book, Muriel inspires others to see the potential in people and things, and to help bring out the best in them! There’s beauty in nearly everything, it seems, including ugly trees! This book is a wonderful holiday escape. Find out more about Sheila Roberts here. Add this to your Christmas in the summer list!
