I’ve partnered with Fidelity & MEFA in support of the U.Fund Dreams Tour. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
When I had my first child – my daughter, Scarlet – the experience at the hospital in the postpartum suite seems like a distant dream. I couldn’t believe that they were actually letting me take her home. We were discharged, into the rest of our lives.
Obviously I logically knew that we’d get to take her home, but somewhere in my heart, I didn’t believe it until it happened. It was the enormity of the love and the responsibility. We got home and then days turned into weeks, turned into years.
Then we added son, Des, to the mix and the love grew, and it grows. The responsibility grew, and it grows. It doesn’t get easier; it just gets different. Some things get easier, and some things get harder. All in all, the challenges change.
When Scarlet and Des said they wanted a Star Wars LEGO birthday party, we made that dream happen. We all wanted to go to Disney World and it took years and generosity from family members, but we made it happen. When Scarlet wanted to go photograph moose with me, and when Des wanted to see a 3D movie, we made that happen. The thing is, their dreams will change. They’re already so big, and they’re being fulfilled one by one. How big will they get? Will we be able to keep up?
My kids are young, but the ages and stages slip through my hands like liquid sometimes. We started out with next to nothing, and we’ve been building our lives and our dreams on a brand new foundation of hope and information ever since. It takes hard work for us, but we don’t have to go it alone. The U. Fund Dreams Tour empowers us (and you) to make decisions about our family’s future, with resources available to help us better navigate this process. How can you find out more?
The U. Fund Dreams Tour:
There will be various events around Boston this summer and fall, where you can get information on different options available to families. The U. Fund Dreams Tour is all about making college planning & savings knowledge accessible to parents in various stages of the planning process. We still have fairly young children, but so many years have passed, and I have always wished for more resources to rely on for information throughout this process. No matter how old your child is, or children are, saving for their educational financial futures is a big undertaking. Are you ready to find out more? I know I am!
These 16 Boston-area events are taking place between May and October of 2016 and they look GOOD. The events will all have a large “Dreams Tent” filled with engaging discovery activities for kids to have fun with and connect. There are discovery activities intended to help parents better understand the challenges of saving for college, and they are also there to be fun and interactive for the kids. There’s the U. Fund Dreams Tour at Wachusett Mountain KidsFest on September 17th and 18th, and the U. Fund Dreams Tour @ Boo at the Zoo at the Stone Zoo on October 23rd. Which events will you attend?
The U. Fund Dreams Tour is a fun and interactive chance to connect. It aims to bring awareness to the importance of saving for college, to offer viable solutions, and to help you on this journey of helping your children achieve their dreams.
