This recipe actually came to be because we had eaten the last of our KING’S HAWAIIAN Original Hawaiian Sweet Rolls. And if you’re playing along, one of our favorite ways to eat them is to warm them with butter and brown sugar! Anyway, we had KING’S HAWAIIAN Sliced Hawaiian Sweet Bread and I wondered aloud, “Could we make sliders with sliced bread?” Cassidy said, “Why not? Of course we can!” And we did. These sliders were totally divine! So much so.
And really, don’t feel you have to limit this dish to breakfast. I can’t think of any occasions that wouldn’t be made better with breakfast sliders. The best part about them, though, is that the baking dish makes them extra hot and delicious in the morning. The melted cheese makes them stick together. YUM. You can also prep them ahead of time for school mornings, holidays, or get-togethers. We NEED to talk about KING’S HAWAIIAN Sliced Bread.
We get our KING’S HAWAIIAN Sliced Sweet Bread right at Martin’s in the bakery/deli part of the store. It stays true to the original island recipe and delivers a unique, soft, and fluffy texture with just a touch of sweetness. KING’S HAWAIIAN Bread will make all of your breakfast ideas taste irresistibly delicious. I hope you love this recipe as much as we do!
Baked Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Breakfast Sliders:
What You Need:
1-2 packages of KING’S HAWAIIAN® Sliced Hawaiian Sweet Bread
1 dozen eggs
2 Tbsp milk
1 pound breakfast sausage
8 Tbsp butter, melted
Shredded cheese (some people use cheese slices for meltability but the shredded worked wonders!)
Salt & Pepper to taste
Round or square cookie cutters (optional)
What You Do:
1 – First, preheat your oven to 350 degrees and spray a baking dish with cooking spray.
2 – Then, cook your breakfast sausage for 10-12 minutes over medium-high heat—flipping often.
3 – Whisk together eggs, milk, salt, and pepper.
4 – Heat your egg mixture in a skillet, allow to set, and then cook it like an omelette.
5 – Then it’s time to make your layers! There are options, You can cut the sliced bread in quarters or use cookie cutters for shapes. You can also layer whole bread slices on the bottom, and then top off your “sandwich” and slice it into sliders at the end. We used small round cookie cutters! You can use the excess bread in bread pudding. Yum.
6 – So, then use the small cookie cutters on bread slices, egg mixture, and sausage.
7 – Layer the bottom of the casserole dish with small round pieces of bread.
8 – Then, brush the bottom part of the sliders with a melted butter, garlic salt, and mustard (optional) mixture.
9 – Add round egg pieces, round sausage pieces, and then, top with shredded cheese and another round piece of bread.
10 – Repeat until you have about 16 sliders.
11 – Brush the top of the slider bread with the butter mixture.
12 – Then, cover your baking dish with foil and bake for 10-15 minutes or so. You can also broil the sliders, but watch carefully!
13 – Lastly, separate and enjoy!
*Makes about 16 sliders
How good do they look? I’ve also heard that you can use bacon and it’s an awesome recipe as well. Or, try it with sausage AND bacon! Like I said in the ingredients list, some people use sliced cheese. We didn’t have any the first time I made these, so I used shredded cheese from a block of Monterey Jack. I think it was AWESOME!
Giant Martin’s is one of my favorite stores to visit. I can find everything I need for my breakfast sliders really fast, and then have time to peruse the soup bar, the salad bar, and the rest of the bakery and deli. Make sure to check out KING’S HAWAIIAN Sliced Sweet Bread at a store near you!
